Kellogg, of Troy, P. F. Jones, ct New York, and J. S. Ostrander, of Albany, upon the Sunday School inter mit. A large audience listened attentively ti these earnest ar.d devoted Sunday School workers. A synopsis of the speeches would do injustice to their beauty and complete ness. The entire day’s exercises were emi nently satisfactory, and the peculiar fea tures of the morning service were original and in fine taste. Nichols, being present, was called upon and addreused the Convention at some length, co .amending the movement upon which the people subject to the griev ance have entered, advising them to act with moderation, but firmly, and expressing his belief that the can^l authorities can be prevailed upon to remove the Dam and deepen the cut between Pendleton and Lockport. He said thjtfc, at the last session of the Legislature, he obtained the passage of a resolution calling on the canal officers to report what measures conld be taken to prevent the frequent Overflow of the lauds on Tonawanda creek and its tributaries, and ho thought it probable .they would report in fa vor of the proposed change. Mr. Hopkins, of A m ^n t, said that from ten thousand to fifteen thousand acres of l;(nd in his town were frequently covered by the overflow of the creek—not every year, but sometimes twice a year. crown, the former looking like Mosaic •vork, and tbe la tte r brilliant w ith shining tars. These exercises were fitly concluded

by an interesting blackboard eaercice from Rev. J . S. O strander, of Albany. Thh* feature of the service wae novel aad highly interesting. A description of it would fail to do justice to i ts merits. M r. O strander i i an entertaining and instructive speaker, and charmed th e children by hia simple and eloquent utterance**

The evening services consisted of speeches by Revs. J - H . Kellogg, of Troy, P. F. Jones, ct New York, and J . S. Ostrander, of Albany, upon the Sunday School in termit. A large audience listened attentively t i these earnest ar.d devoted Sunday School workers. A synopsis of th e speeches would do injustice to the ir beauty and completeness. The entire day’s exercises were eminently satisfactory, and the peculiar features of the morning service were original and in fine taste. Thia school can congratulate itse-’f upon giving a religious entertainm ent second to none of it3 kind given in th is city. To the energetic Superintendent, H. H. Otis, and his able corps of teachers, aud especially the Committee on Decoration, of which Miss M aria Reese wt« Chairman, much of the success of the anniversary is due.

tJoRRFCTion.—In our report of the casualty a t the Falls the other day wc stated th a t Jam es Martin was driver of tha hack which wont over the bank. M artin wishes us to state th a t Robert Welsh, a man in his employ, was the driver, and th a t ht (W elsh) told the party it was n o t safe to drive the carriage down to the ferry land- ,ng» b u t one of the ladies persisted in going down, and he finally consented.

The downward trip of tho propeller Bad ger M ate, which arrived here yesterila tuorning, wa*! marked by a singular an m ost tragic occurrence. W e learn froi. i . aptain Dickson the following particu lar Shortly before the departure of the boa-

kept his stateroom almost constantly, an*’ :<*mcd troubled in mind w ith some nlorbid

r.flections, which so affected his demeanci t :at many of the passengers thought hin univell. On Friday, however, he wer.t lpon deck and lingered for s me tim e; eve:

then he appeared very melancholy, and a: one time rem arked to some*of the passengers th a t “ he thought he should like to «lu iu thc w ater.” The last sern of him was a' About nine o’clock Friday evening, when h was observed sitting on a sail iu tho stcr;>f the vessel. This was when tho propeller was on Lake H uron, abont ten mii* ? from the entrance of St. Glair Iiiver. Upon their arrival a t D etroit tho stew ard went to Mr. Touhy’s room to call him, and, fail iug to find him there, looked about the dec)* •»;id in various parts of the boat, b n t i: '-race of the missing man could lie found Lt may be possible tbat. the man fell int< tho w ater accidentally, b u t thu genc-rr. supposition is th a t he committed suicid*:. He left considerable baggage in his room, and in one of the pockets of hia coat were found some cards, one of them inscribe*: “ Thomas H . Touhy, editor and proprietoi of thc C»m Htttrcial Bulletin, No. 17 North fiiird street, St. Louis,” aud others bear mg simply the name “ Thos. Touhy.” Ti o use, to us, seems enshrouded in deep m ys

tery. Perhaps the St. Louis papers will 1* able to throw some light on thc subject.
