Ferno Megasus StretcherThe Ferno Megasus Stretcher hasadditional wide inserts that allow forlarger patients to be accommodated. Theinserts when not in use or required canbe removed and stowed.

The maximum safe handling weight ofthe stretcher is 47 stone (300 kgs). Theraising and lowering of the stretcher areall carried out hydraulically by a footpump operation by the crew.

Renault Master Low Floor O & H conversionAll of Medical Services’ BariatricAmbulances are based upon the reliable, tried and tested Renault Master longwheelbase platform. As well as the CENcompliant design and stretcher securinglocks, the vehicles are fitted with electricwinches to pull wheelchairs andstretchers on board the vehicle withminimal risk to the crews.

The winch is capable of safely attachingto the stretcher or purpose built bariatricwheelchair with the patient on board. Thewinch has a safe operating capacity of 21⁄2tonnes. The crew will safely guide thepatient on board the vehicle, withminimal attention and stress.

The stretcher solidly locks into thevehicle using the CEN compliant fixings. The back rest of the stretcher can beadjusted, again hydraulically, to ensurethat the patient is comfortable.

Once on board the patient has acomfortable air conditionedenvironment for the journey. Our crewswill endeavour to ensure the patient isput at ease throughout the journey so asto keep stress levels to a minimum.

Extra wide bariatricwheelchairAlso on board the vehicle is a purposebuilt Bariatric extra wide wheelchair. Thewheelchair is approx 1 metre wide andhas a safe operating load of up to 50stone (318 kg). The wheelchair folds whennot in use, for storage on the vehicle.

The floor area has Unwin trackingthroughout so as to allow the safesecuring of a patient to the chair and thechair to the vehicle during transit. On request Medical Services initiate ahome access risk assessment. This wouldbe prudent prior to deploying theambulance.

This is particularly prevalent whenpatients are being admitted ordischarged to or from home premiseswhere access and egress routes maycause a risk to the patient or staff.

Additional resources to allow safehandling of the patient can be utilised,in some cases a four person crewwould be deployed to effect the safetransfer of a patient.

In the past the Fire and StatutoryAmbulance Services have been utilisedto transfer the heavier patients. Thisdoes cause stress and embarrassment to the patient, often making theircondition worse.

Medical Services has a patientfocused solution that safely provides for heavier patients.

With Britain facing a growing obesityproblem, Medical Services has invested invehicles, equipment and staff training to beable to provide safe transport for largerpatients up to 300kg (47 stone). The vehicleshave special stretchers with mechanical liftscapable of safely lifting patients withreduced risk to the patient and crew. Ourcrews whilst maintaining the safety of thepatient and themselves also ensure thepatients dignity is maintained at all times. Our vehicles from the outside look the sameas any normal High DependencyAmbulance. Our IHCS technicians aretrained to convey patients with dignity, andin a safe, comfortable manner.
