Bargo PS Kids are Safe Respectful Learners

Dear parents, carers, boys & girls,

Congratulations to our athletes who represented our school at the Razorback PSSA carnival last Thursday and Friday. Mr Gooden and Mr Hockey were very impressed by your excellent behaviour, your excellent sportspersonship and the amazing list of personal bests in your events. Congratulations to Eddie H, Levi E, Caitlin K, Lily M and Kane J for making it onto Razorback PSSA team to compete at the Sydney South West PSSA Athletics carnival. Well done boys! Thanks to mums, dads and grandparents for transporting your children to this event.

Congratulations to all Stage 1 students, from each class, for their efforts with the Ultimo Public Speaking Competition.

A special mention to our selected 2 class representatives who presented their speeches at Stage assembly finals this week. Each and every student should be commended for their efforts. It is a nerve wrecking experience to speak in front of a big audience and they all did exceptionally well. Not only did they have to present their prepared speech, but they then had to also prepare and present an impromptu speech. They were given a topic on the spot (My Best Friend) and had only 5 minutes to plan and then 1 minute to present the speech to the stage.

As teachers, we wish we could select more than 1 student to progress to the next level, however unfortunately only 1 student from each stage can be chosen.

Well done to the following finalists....

Year 1… Samuel Cashmere, Nirvana Biady, Carlos Curran, Nathan Coughlan, Lydia Ratajczak

Year 2 … Lara Charnock, Hailee-Anne White, Lillyan Vinals-Vega, Reece Boon

A HUGE congratulations goes to Hailee-Anne White from 2R who was selected to be our Stage 1 representative. Hailee-Anne will now represent our school at the Ultimo Public Speaking Area Finals which will be held at Bowral Public School early next term, on a date to be advised.

Thanks to the small band of merry present wrappers who worked extremely hard last Thursday wrapping over 1500 presents for the Fathers’ Day stall. We will need more help this Thursday when the Fathers’ Day stall is open for students to make purchases for the special ‘man’ in their lives. Mums, it is your turn to pop some money in a labelled, sealed enveloped or zip lock bag.

Remember to come along to the hall to help students make their purchases if you have a spare hour or two. ‘Many hands make light work.’

Dance: Term 4 2017, $33 per child for an 10 Week Program Dance is part of the Health, PD and Physical Education Curriculum. Our school has participated in this program on a biannual basis. One year we participate in a specialist gymnastic program (even years) and the next year we enjoy a dance program (odd years). It is important to note, that students are expected to participate in this program as it is part of our curriculum. I would like to remind parents that dance is part of our school curriculum and requires experts to teach same. Our staff hold and maintain many different qualifications but sadly not dance.

Kindergarten Expo Day: September 5 2017

Calling all parents and new parents of Bargo PS! You are most cordially invited to our 2017 Kindergarten Expo!

What is a Kindergarten Expo? This is an opportunity for parents to talk and chat to all of our support services, meet students and staff, tour our facilities and explore the educational pathways for children. Thank you to Mrs Pohl for coordinating this unique occasion! A flyer has been sent home with an RSVP. Please encourage neighbours and friends who have students of school age entry to contact the school on 46841396 for more information.

Now for a change of pace… A short story written by Jack B-T A lot of people will probably relate to my story. Remember that time when you were a kid and your parents told

you that paying bills was the worst part of their week, and you would ask ‘why?’

They would respond, ‘cause you have to pay out a lot of money.’

Well, there is one thing worst than paying bills and that is paying taxes. When my dad gets paid he gives back half to the tax man.

Rego is also bad, but not quite as bad because you only get that bill once a year.

My mum says that if she could have just one wish, it would be to get rid of bills and taxes.

Save the Date! Show ‘n Shine Car Show and fete Saturday 7 October 2017—the last Saturday of the school holidays. Our busy team meet to plan for the grand Show ‘n

Shine Car Show and fete for 2017. Once again many thanks to Matt Symons who coordinates the Show ‘n Shine Car Show each year. An awesome effort Matt!!

Features on the day, which runs from 10 am till 2pm, include and are not limited to the:

car, truck and bike show—with cars arriving onsite from approximately 6am; with the show running throughout the day finishing up with the presentation of 100 + trophies for the owners of the magnificent vehicles.

Wrist bands for 4 hours of unlimited rides and/or individual tickets for single rides

Food galore…...wood fire pizza, two BBQ sites run by Yr 6 staff, parents and students to raise funds for their farewell, lollies, melted cheese sandwiches; Anna’s canteen; A1 Donut truck, Smash It Ice-cream van with slurpies and so much more

Stalls and fun…..chocolate wheel, silent auction, handbags, book stall, white elephant stall including computer bites and pieces

What do parents need to do to have a stall on the day?

Be a parent of Bargo PS.

Complete an Application Form for a Stall Booking prior to acceptance with a description of goods or services sold. Pay for a stall site on the day. NB No power supplied by school. Stall holders need to provided their own generator.

Public Liability cover and provide a copy of same.

A copy of the application is attached.

Share the application with your friends who have market stalls

Uniforms ... Please check all clothing items at home. Sometimes children accidently take homes clothes belonging to other children. Check for names on labels, on the neck or waist band. Simply drop the items of clothing off to the office where they will be returned to the correct family. Don’t forget to label all clothes with the family’s name as it is the season for children to wear and remove many layers of clothing during the day.

Students Awards ... Is your child remembering to trade their awards? When your child receives an award you need to look for 2 main things: 1. Lyre birds on the award/certificate 2. the size ( A4, half A4 or quarter A4) The following are trading value: 5 x 1/4 A4 (classroom awards) trades for an Achiever award Most teachers keep these awards in the classroom for quick trading. 5 x 1/2 A4 (Achiever awards) trades for a Gold Award Most teachers send these home for children and parents to look after. 5 x A4 (Gold or Learning Awards) trades for a Bargo Blue pennant For most students this is now generated by the computer system SENTRAL.

If you are unsure, submit your collection of A4 sized awards to Mrs Bunga.

5 x Bargo Blue Pennants trade for Principal’s Medallion.

All students need to bring in their five Bargo Blue Pennants.

Child Protection Education for Students…

In government schools, child protection education forms part of all

student learning in Personal development and Physical Education

for Kindergarten to Year 10. Students learn skills in recognising if

they could be unsafe and strategies for protecting themselves.

Strategies including saying ’no’ if they can, going away from the

situation and telling a trusted adult what has happened as soon as

possible.

Learning is organised into three themes: Recognising Abuse;

Power in Relationships and Protective Strategies.

Some parents may like to know more about the content taught to

students. If you are one of these parents please send an email

[email protected]

or a note to child’s teacher for a copy of the material teachers are

required to teach. Please note the topics are the same however the

content is age appropriate.

School banking and volunteer banking mums… Don’t forget that THURSDAY is School Banking day. For every deposit made at school, no matter how big or small, students will receive a Dollarmite token. Once students have individually collected 10 tokens they can redeem them for an exclusive School Banking reward item in recognition of their

continued savings behaviour. Thank you for supporting the School Banking program at Bargo PS. Many thanks to our banking mums who carry out this responsibility every week!

Head Lice …. Remember to check all heads for head lice tonight . Head lice has caused enormous concern & frustration for parents, teachers & children. So we are going to continue our blitz on HEAD LICE but we all need to work together! Step 1: Every Tuesday night parents stop & check each child’s hair for lice, from the baby to the adults in the family.

Step 2: Should you find head lice…. PLEASE treat your family’s hair, brushes, combs & bed linen on Tuesday night.

Step 3: Notify the school on Wednesday morning, so that I can advise tall families to take extra precautions.

Remember head lice love to live in clean, strong hair. Kids love to touch heads while giggling & sharing a joke. Their eggs are usually found behind the ears & along the nape of the neck.

tie your child’s hair up — both boys & girls

spraying your child’s hair with hairspray, making it much harder for the nit to attach to the hair shaft

spraying Tea Tree oil in the lining of the school cap—nits don’t like the smell.

Finally, parents are an important part of our school, so on behalf of the P & C committee I would like to invite all parents to think about attending our next meeting on Wednesday May 3, where you can become part of the team while enjoying a coffee, a freshly baked scone or muffin (and a giggle). The meeting is held in the staffroom and commences at 7pm.

Aim to learn something new every day and be as active as you can be in our school! Please chat with your children on a daily basis about notes relating to information about meetings, curriculum, excursions, school events, sport, welfare issues or celebrations of success!
