    BARCA CH4 data analysis

Phase A: only CH4 flask measurements are available; selected flasks have been

sent to Utrecht (Thomas Rckmann) for an isotope analysis

Phase B : insitu and flask measurements flasks are currently being analyzed and

selected flasks might also be sent to Utrecht then for an isotope analysis

    Comparison of CH4

data to global model output (TM5, TM3, etc.)

Comparison to regional model output (WRF-chem+VPRM-CH4, STILT)

    WRF Validation

Participation in evaluation and testing of the WRF set-up for the Amazon region

    (mostly done at INPE)

    1. Precipitation/Convection

Evaluation of WRF precipitation output against TRMM and GPCP data

    2. Radiation

Aeronet data available for 2002 (six stations) and 2008/2009 (only Alta

    Floresta and Rio Branco)

Validation of WRF Amazon setup (lw 1 & sw 2 options) against Aeronet data

for BARCA Phase A and Phase B

also interesting for use of VPRM

    WRF runs

Tagged tracer WRF runs for BARCA Phase A and Phase B for CH4, CO2 and CO

to scale different sources in comparison with the observatios

Subroutines for VPRM, wetland model (Kaplan wetland inventory) and termites

are combined under the new module_greenhouse_gases (chem_opt=98) which

also uses the plumrise mechanism VPRM parameters & preprocessing

Until global fields of CH4, CO2 and CO are available for 2008 and 2009, 5x5fields interpolated from NOAA surface stations are used for initial and boundary

    conditions

Could somebody already provide the NOAA surface station data for May 2009?

The WRF biomass burning preprocessor wrf_chem_prep_source was installed in

Jena and biomass burning emissions estimates (including the Modis satellitedata) can now be provided on WRF and Lat/Lon grid also in netcdf output

We would still need the satellite data for May 2009 (WF_ABBA & DSA)

EDGAR 4 data are used for anthropogenic sources CO data?

Importance of vegetation CH4 source and soil uptake CH4 still has to be discussed

    STILT runs for BARCA

STILT to provide consistent footprint information-> Source region identification

Fast forward tagged tracer runs for receptors along flight path

-> hypothesis testing for different fluxes

    Inverse analysis (nested inversion)

    -> optimal source configuration

    STILT runs for BARCA Status

Domain set up (-35 -85 Lat Lon south-west, 15 -30 Lat Lon north-east)should be identical to VY domain!

STILT-ECMWF: ECMWF preprocessing for Phase A and B running

    STILT-WRF: waiting for WRF fields

    Coupling to fluxes:

Biomass burning fields (C. Wiedenmyer (UCAR)) available as ncdf

EDGAR V4 and others used in WRF-chem need preprocessing to

    cartesian grid

VPRM parameters and fields -> VY domain?
