The CUBECUBES have the ability to slide verticallybetween the twin flats and therefore becomeanchor points for a variety of componentconnections, whether this be the handrail,infill panel, intermediate rails or structural fixingsto the fabric of the building. Interesting andunusual transitions are created between tubularelements projecting from within the uprightswithout any welding or bolted connectionthrough the flats.

The modular rationale promotes a series ofstandard parts which adjust to any angle andperform multiple functions throughout the system.

SpecificationsThe twin uprights and CUBES are finished inour NyMet® nylon coating and most fittingsprojecting from these assemblies are producedin Stainless Steel. Handrails are offered inStainless Steel or natural Hardwood and asupright centres vary for each fixing and typeof scheme, our technical department shouldbe consulted for additional guidance whencreating project specifications.

Clean LinesAs with all icon products, icon CUBE ismanufactured as a series of machined or castfittings, mechanically connected together tocreate a highly engineered system with precise,clean lines between adjoining components.In true icon tradition, the CUBE system has asharp, sophisticated appearance, unhinderedby the presence of unsightly welds as canoften impair bespoke fabrications.

Superior FinishThe twin flats used to create the balustradeuprights are produced from extruded aluminium.This material already benefits from an inherentlysuperior surface to that of Mild Steel howeverthis is further enhanced by the application of ourunique NyMet® nylon coating. Stainless Steelhandrails are supplied with a refined, radiallybrushed finish and natural Hardwood handrailsare polished and lacquered.

Supplied, Installedicon is available Internationally on a supply andinstallation basis as a specialist ArchitecturalHandrail & Balustrade package procured directlyby the Client, Developer or Principal Contractor.

icon on lineSubscribers can compile icon specificationswithin the NBS Plus software package oralternatively, standard specification templatescan be obtained from the Internet; atwww.handraildesign.co.uk. it is also possibleto download AutoCAD drawings of the systemcomponents together with generic handrail andbalustrade designs.

CUBE® is the distinctive member of the icon modular handrailand balustrade product range. The system is derived fromthe desire to specify an alternative to tubular balusters whilstadhering to the strict philosophy of highly engineered, non-fabricated solutions. The design concept was conceivedby pairing extruded aluminium flat bar uprights and bracingthese together by means of unique CUBE® components thatinterlock inside rebates within the inner faces of each section.

Concealed Fixingsicon endorses positive detailing and with suchemphasis placed on precision it is complimen-tary for fixing screws and bolt heads to bediscretely concealed wherever possible. Endcaps, cover discs and rosettes feature in thedesign of most components to provide a tidy andtamper proof solution, particularly appropriate forpublic and educational building applications.

NyMet® CoatingThe extruded aluminium CUBE componentsand twin flat uprights are factory finished inour unique NyMet® nylon coating. NyMet®

comprises a three coat system of electro-statically applied Polymer offering a 150 micronfinish which has twice the thickness and 10times the resistance to abrasion of a typicalpolyester powder coating. NyMet® has flexibleproperties which prevent the coating fromchipping and flaking, weathering resistanceis excellent and the finish satisfies all relevantFire Officer requirements.

NyMet® RangeNyMet® is generally applied as a semi glossfinish and is available in an exclusive range ofmetallics together with black and white as theprimary range of options. Standard BS or RALcolours can be supplied and even special solidcolours or metallics can be formulated uponrequest.

Stainless SteelThe handrails, midrails and associated bracketsare produced in 304 grade Stainless Steelfor internal use and 316 grade for externalapplications. A refined, brushed satin finishis directionally applied to certain componentswhereas tubes are radially polished.

Natural Hardwoodsicon CUBE offers a contemporary selectionof factory polished and lacquered Hardwoodhandrails as standard. Other species can beconsidered upon request and all Hardwoodsused for icon handrails are supplied fromsustainably managed sources.
