The Southern Florida Minority Supplier Development Council (SFMSDC) was founded in 1975 by the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Miami Progress Foundation for the purpose of fostering the development of minority-owned businesses throughout South Florida. Central to our mission is the principle that networks and relationships among and between minority businesses and Corporate and Government buyers build businesses. The Council's main function is to register and certify minority-owned businesses. The process ensures that these businesses are 51% minority-owned and operated in accordance with the guidelines set by the National Minority Supplier Development Council. The SFMSDC is one of 24 regional councils affiliated with the NMSDC. In order to more effectively carry out its mission, the SFMSDC provides support to corporate members and MBE affiliates from three offices in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. MissionThe mission of the Southern Florida Minority Supplier Development Council (SFMSDC) is to link corporations and government agencies with Minority Business Enterprises (MBEs) to foster business development and expansion.

HistoryThe Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce and Greater Miami Progress Foundation founded the Council in 1975. The Council is a liaison between corporate America and government agencies and Minority Business Enterprises in 16 counties, including Miami-Dade, Broward, Monroe, Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, Collier, Charlotte, Lee, Brevard, Indian River, Hardee, Manatee, Sarasota, Desoto, Highlands, Okeechobee, Glades and Hendry Counties.

As of 2015, the Southern Florida Minority Supplier Development Council, through its Corporate Members, is directly responsible for more than $26 billion in products and services procured from certified Minority Business Enterprises.

The SFMSDC is a non-profit 501(c)(3) affiliate of the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC). The organization is a network of 24 regional affiliates and more than 12,000 certified minority-owned companies with 1,750 Corporate Members, including America’s top publicly- and privately-owned companies and foreign firms, hospitals, universities and other buying institutions.

The firm focuses on investing in healthcare service companies nationwide. He is the founder and/or majority shareholder of 25 healthcare-related companies. Most of his companies have been acquired by publicly-traded companies; they include Physicians Healthcare Plans (Tampa Bay, FL), CarePlus Health Plans (Miami, FL), Navarro Pharmacies (Miami, FL), Medical Specialties Distributors (Boston, MA), Hospitalists of America (Coral Gables, FL) and Simply Healthcare Plans (Coral Gables, FL). Mike recently became a billionaire after selling Navarro Pharmacies and Simply Healthcare. His book, “Humbled by the Journey: Life Lessons For My Family And Yours” tells the story of how he came to the US at the age of 12, penniless, and built an empire.
