Fr. Tomasz’s Weekly Reflection
Looking at our faith and piety I get the impression that, despite participating in Christmas celebrations, Easter, Stations of the Cross or even regularly at Sunday Mass, it may very well have little to do with faith. It could be done for show or for the peace of our own mind. No one is immune to that, even - and maybe especially - the Priests can fall in the routine of practices, but where's our faith in all of that? Where's our faith in everyday life?
As Christians, we are included in the Church through the Sacrament of Baptism, which makes of us a community of the Mystical Body of Christ. This is an incredible gift, which - although invisible - cannot be overestimated. Even if we deny it and try to remove this birthmark, it accompanies us throughout our lives. By getting baptized, we begin to see, we become free, we become aware of what is intended for us.
Isaiah in his prophecy, channeling the words of God speaking through him, tells us who Christ is to be: my chosen one with whom I am pleased, upon whom I have put my spirit; he shall bring forth justice to the nations. Analyzing it word for word, we recognize the presence of the Holy Trinity, that is God the Father speaking, God the Son - the chosen one, and the Holy Spirit bestowed upon the Son. It is a foreshadowing of the encounter with the Trinity at the time of the Jesus' Baptism, but also in our own Baptism, and in fact in every Sacrament we receive.
This prophecy is also confirmed in the Acts of the Apostles, and in particular in the words of St. Peter: You know the Word that He sent to the Israelites as He proclaimed peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all, what has happened all over Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached. Thanks to Christ, His Sacrifice, we have the Sacrament of Baptism, which allows us to reach the Father's House through Christ, following the path that is constantly enlightened by the Holy Spirit.
It reminds us about the need of living our faith every day of our lives, by walking the path of holiness to God. Our faith is not separate from our culture, it IS our culture, spiritual, Christian culture; from our relationship with God, to our brothers and sisters in faith; through our everyday hidden life, to our public life. It all needs to be one: the culture of faith, the culture of prayer, and finally the culture of evangelizing.
Through Jesus' Baptism we have received the dignity of Kings, Prophets and Priests. That means that our faith is not just for the show of religious practices, neither it is a private affair. It is a gift and a task at the same time: a gift to cherish, but a task to live it.
At every Mass, Catholics confess that Jesus came down from heaven "for us men and for our salvation." But what does "salvation" mean? Join us in deepening your faith.
Begin 2020 with a with a transformative study.
Prepare for Lent by truly accepting His gift of salvation.
