The following prayers, printed in our St Joseph School newsletter this week, ask God to help us to care for children and to ask God’s blessings on fathers. For Children. Open our ears to listen to their stories. Fill us with patience, compassion and generosity so that we may nurture their spirits that all may flourish. We make this prayer in Jesus name. Bless them with good things like health, laughter joy, love, pride in their children and the support of many friends. May all who have protected and guided the life of others, be themselves held securely one day in your strong embrace, there for all eternity, to rejoice with their families and friends. He began with a quote from St Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians (12:26) “If one member suffers, all suffer together with it.” Towards the end of the letter Pope Francis wrote: “It is essential that we, as a Church, be able to acknowledge and condemn, with sorrow and shame, the atrocities perpetrated by consecrated persons, clerics, and all those entrusted with the mission of watching over and caring for the most vulnerable. Let us beg forgiveness for our own sins and the sins of others.” (The Vatican Website has the full text of the letter) The Word of God for Today. Jesus was no stranger to conflict as today’s Gospel reading reveals. When our relationships, including with God, become just a matter of obeying ‘man made’ rules then we are in trouble. CHILD PROTECTION WEEK 2018 National Child Protection Week is held

during the first full week of

September each year. Schools, businesses, community groups and government

organisations come together, to consider how best to promote the value of children and focus attention on issues

of child abuse and neglect. Children are a gift from God and must be protected from

harm of every kind. Many Archdiocesan personnel through

their ministries and services are in a unique position to identify child abuse and neglect and to do something about

it. The Archdiocese expects all personnel, including clergy,

employees and volunteers to act upon concerns or

complaints of abuse, and comply with reporting obligations. Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.

From Fr. Damien: Thank you God for providing us some relieving scattered rain in some areas…our prayers for our entire nation’s farmers

who are in the grip of severe drought who desperately need more rainfall remain in our thoughts and prayers. Please say

a little prayer asking God to send us more rain in the coming

weeks.

On Tuesday, I celebrated Eucharist with the Holy Spirit

Seminary community at Banyo on the memorial of

St Augustine. It was very special to be with the guys again as a newly ordained priest. I am most thankful to Monsignor

John Grace, the staff and students for their wishes for my Priesthood.

On Thursday, it was also a wonderful privilege to preside at

Eucharist with the community at Emmaus, Nudgee. It was lovely to see familiar faces there amongst the Sisters of Mercy

and I wish them all my best wishes, prayers and thanks for

including me in your prayers and celebrating our life in Christ together.

Fr Bernie and I wish all our families and children who are

receiving their First Holy Communion this weekend every blessing. It is a very special time for you as we embrace one

another in Jesus each time we receive him. To all the Mums and Dads, we thank you for sharing your faith journeys with

your children as you have been preparing them for the

Sacrament.

Wishing you all and especially all Dads every blessing and a

very Happy Father’s Day!!

at the Francis Rush Centre on: Thursday 12 July: 12.30 pm- 2.30pm

Sunday 29 July: 10.00am – 12 noon

Once again registration prior to the event is re-quired. Please contact the parish office so that if

you will be attending either of these training ses-sions, staff can generate an online registration for

you. If you are unable to attend either of the

above training sessions, notices will appear in the parish newsletter over the coming weeks informing

you of other training sessions occurring in other parishes.

A reminder that ALL parish volunteers must

attend a training session in 2018.
