witnessed a rapid expansion with many

players entering the market to meet the

population’s increasing demand for

banking services. Thus there is a need

for a highly skilled human resource

base to occupy the challenging posi-

tions in the expanding financial sector.

The Banking and Finance Depart-ment is a recent addition to the train-ing departments offering homegrown courses at MDI. It started in the last two years and has attracted a large number of students from the Bank-ing sector. The courses provided cov-er the Certificate, Diploma and Ad-vanced Diploma levels and the cours-es run for 6 months providing High School level students and Bank staff with adequate banking and finance principles, business and management

skills and commercial law and general eco-nomic principles. The response in participa-tion from the private sector is overwhelming and this programme is seen by many as a po-tential professional Degree programme for MDI to offer in an integrated University sys-tem. This Department is one of the fastest growing departments and has the most num-ber of students at MDI.

CERTIFICATE IN BANKING AND FINANCE (6 months)

The course is designed to expose candidates to basin principles of Banking and Finance, the roles and functions of major financial institutions and mar-kets, with particular reference to The Gambia. This course is ideal for anyone new to financial services or who has not studied for a few years, allowing one to obtain the qualification most suited to current and/or future aspirations.
