known locally to be used as treatment for different ailments.

The suggestions offered are general in nature and use.

Inflammation Bush “Peperomia Pellucida” An annual, shallow-rooted herb, usually growing to a height of about 15 to 45 cm. It is characterized by succulent stems, shiny, heart-shaped, fleshy leaves and tiny, dot-like seeds attached to several fruiting spikes. Locally used as a tea for

medicinal purposes and as well as a food item. Although mostly grown for its ornamental foliage, the entire

plant is edible, both cooked and raw.

used to season mutton and pork. Locally used as a tea for gastric upsets, nausea, and in the

making of oils to treat colds.

Pomme Coolie “Momordica Charantia” Often called bitter melon, bitter gourd or bitter squash.

It is tropical vines of the Caribbean known for its edible fruit, which is extremely bitter.

Locally, the pomme coolie leaves are used in a tea, mainly drunk for ‘blood purification’ or ‘cooling’, as it is known, and in a

preparation for treating high blood pressure. The leaves are also crushed in bath water and used topically to remedy certain skin

ailments such as eczema.

Oregano is an evergreen herb, perennial or shrub. It is popular for its attractive foliage and white flowers. Locally used as a tea against flu, seasoning and a bath

for coughs.
