Bandit News “Healthy Minds, Healthy Bodies, Healthy Relationships” celebrates our students and also features student achievement in our many programs as well as the involvement of our numerous student groups such as SU, SAPP, QSA, SADD, SWATT. Regardless of what happened recently in the US elecon, I think this has brought to light the fact that there is much to be learned about the importance of reading crically and about the need to give serious consideraon to your sources! Please give serious consideraon to the following: 1. Being able to read crically is important. 2. Being able to discern dependable informaon sources is crical. 3. Reading for depth of content is imperave. 4. Taking the me to read regularly either for informaon or entertainment is key to your understanding and appreciaon of the world around you. Volleyball season came to an end last week with the Grade 9 Girls winning the LDAA Championship banner, and the high school team finishing their respective seasons. I would like to thank all of our staff and volunteer coaches for the time, effort and leadership they have provided to our student athletes. Hot on the heels of volleyball, basketball and curling are getting underway and are just around the corner! We’d love to see lots of fans at the games, so keep an eye out for the schedules.

remember that Social Studies is an important course in your formation as an involved and informed citizen of our society. Our world changes at an incredibly rapid rate these days and well-informed citizens can make better sense of it and involve themselves in ways that can impact society for the better, so I challenge you to be that person, be that generation!

I also challenge you to find 30 minutes a day to devote to reading if you don’t already do so. If you have no idea what to read, as a friend, ask your parents, or go to our Library which has a great selection of fiction and non-fiction...Mrs. Forest would be more than happy to help you out!

Students’ Union Update

After a lively month of October, SU is taking a step back before the hustle and bustle resumes during the holiday season. Don’t let that fool you though, the school is still full of events including the fantastic production of Guys and Dolls.

There will be a Parent Grad Banquet meeting on Wednesday, November 30 at 6:00 pm in the ESBCHS Staff Room. Grad Portraits have been scheduled to take place at the school from Monday, January 23, 2017 through to Friday, January 27, 2017. All appointments must be booked online so please make sure to reserve your spot as soon as possible. 2016-17 yearbook orders are now being accepted. If anyone missed ordering their copy of this year's edition when paying their school fees you can still get your name on the list by making a payment online. Yearbooks are $44 or you can get your name embossed on the cover for an extra $6. 2015/16 yearbooks have now arrived and are available for pickup .

Bandit SportsDesk Our Bandits football squad finished their season with a thrilling game vs Holy Trinity. A blocked field goal with no time left on the clock sealed the game for the Trojans.

Congrats to Mr. Lepps and Kurtis Schreiber, along with the rest of the coaching staff on their season.

Volleyball season is done, the Sr. Girls competed in the

Edmonton 3A Zone tournament Nov 18 and 19 in St. Albert. Our grade nine girls won the LDAA penant at Leduc Comp Nov 17. Thanks to Marty Bester, Irene Gerlinsky, Cherilyn Vreim, Vern Gerhardt, Christina Sulit, and Clarissa Maxfield for their efforts with the volleyball teams this fall.

Basketball tryouts are underway for Grades 10 -12 with Grade 9 teams starting the week of November 28. More to come!

Cosmetology

The Cosmetology Lab is selling gift baskets for the holidays. We can custom design a basket to include hot tools, styling products, shampoo and conditioner, skin care products etc. We also offer hair and esthetic services including hair cuts. colours, facials and manicures during the afternoons from 12:15 - 3:05, after school and on Saturday, December 10, 2016 from 11:00 - 2:00 with a 1 week advance notice so students can arrange time off with their employers to come in and provide the service.

anxiety, the following session was held on Thursday, November 17th. Thanks to all those who

attended.

“More than Just a bad Day: Understanding and Supporting

Youth with Depression and Self-Injury”

This session was designed to give caregivers increase awareness about adolescents who may

be experiencing sadness, depression and intentionally injuring themselves. It explored

factors that contribute to depression and motivation behind self-injurious behavior.

Caregivers learned about treatment option for depression as well as strategies to help

support youth who may be engaging in self-injury.

50th Anniversary Legacy to Albertans from Alberta Blue Cross

Alberta Blue Cross has established a $1 million scholarship fund to assist young Albertans pursuing post-secondary studies across the prov-

ince. The fund celebrates the organization's 50th anniversary, and supports 65 scholarships awarded each year to young Albertans entering

full-time post-secondary study in Alberta. These scholarships range from $750 to $1,500, and are awarded to Alberta students on the basis
