InnovationBRS has developed new light weight material, to minimize weight of FAA certifiable parachutes. The BRS parachute is designed to decelerate and lower the entire aircraft to the ground in case of emergency.
Accomplishments Cirrus Design & BRS have completed flight testing for the SR20 airplane that is currently undergoing FAA certification testing.
Commercialization• The Cirrus SR20 will be the first certified production aircraft equipped with an airframe
parachute as standard equipment. • Potential sales of SR-20’s are estimated to reach 1,000 airplane a year by the year 2000
• Sales revenues to BRS from the SR-20 should exceed $2.5 Million per year
• The recovery system is used by over 25 experimental category small airplanes with a sales revenues of approximately $1 Million per year
• The SBIR developed system for certified airplanes has created 4 engineering jobs and will increase production employment by 10 or more people
Government/Science Applications The technology creates an improvement in pilot and passenger survivability in emergency situations. The new lighter weight and increased durability materials can be used by NASA programs
