Status of BWMC ratification (31st January 2013)

BWMC has already been contracted by 36 Flag States *(30 required) representing ~30% of world’s gross tonnage (35% required).1

With ratification of one Flag State with 6% gross tonnage (e.g. Panama),

BWM - Convention becomes mandatory 12 months later.

1 IMO web site – Status of Convention *) Germany (1,4%) has recently signed.Argentina, Belgium (both below 1%) are going

to in the near future.

GL BWM Calculator - Application

• The due date for D2 is variable for certain ships

• For example:

“A ship to which paragraph 1 applies shall comply with paragraph 1

not later than the first intermediate or renewal survey, whichever occurs first,

after the anniversary date of delivery of the ship in the year of compliance with

the standard applicable to the ship.”

GL’s BWM D2 Due Date Calculator delivers the

correct conclusion
