The ball de bastons is  a very  popular  dance  in Catalonia  and  other parts of Europe.

English  and  Welsh Morris  dances  are similar  to  these traditional  Catalan dances.

Main Structure two rows of eight dancers

Other structures a circle row of six or more dancers

The main elements are the sticks, which dancers crash.

The dancers lead two holm oak home-made sticks, about 40-50cm long and 5cm thick.

They change depending on the town but there are some common clothes:- “Espardenyes”, a kind of sandals made of straw.

- small bells in their ankles to make noise when they jump and dance.

Basic structure:a double row of eight dancers which may add additional groups of four dancers. The central element are the strokes with the other dancers.

1.The sound is something particularly important in the stick dance, generated mainly by the strokes of the cane and musical instruments (drum, flute, bagpipe, violin), the bells, and even the cries of the dancers.
