The Voyage

Sailing from Benoa, Bali to Lombok, Nusa Tenggara, Mojo,

Komodo and Labuhanbajo

Saturday 18th July, 2020:

Depart Sydney at 10:00 hours, arrive Denpasar 13:15 hours. Transfer to overnight accommodation just outside of Denpasar.

Sunday 19th July, 2020:

We will have breakfast at around 8am, before we are transferred to our home for the next 9 nights, the MY “Amaya Explorer”. After boat safety briefing and cabin allocation, we will set sail towards Nusa Penida. Expect to dive here this afternoon.

Monday 20th July, 2020 – Tuesday 21st July, 2020:

Two days of diving in Lombok, around the Gili islands. Known for it’s impressive reef formations, warm water and great visibility. Schooling scalloped hammerheads will be the focus of our dives here, but we will keep our eyes peeled for mobula rays, sharks, hawksbill turtles and even dolphins as well.

Wednesday 22nd July – Thursday 23rd July, 2020:

Diving around Sumbawa and Moyo gives us the opportunity to see Reef Manta Rays and on day 5 (Thursday), Whalesharks!

Friday 24th July, 2020

Sangeang, a complex and still active volcano, will give us a brilliant day of diving – expect a combination of big and small creatures, plus spectacular views and awesome photography opportunities.

Saturday, 25th July, 2020 – Monday 27th July, 2020

3 unbelievable days of diving in Komodo national park, with a land excursion to see the Komodo Dragons.

Tuesday 28th July, 2020

Disembark the Amaya this morning and transfer to LBJ airport. Fly home.

Nusa Penida

Expect currents and upwellings around the island of Nusa Penida, providing a rich marine environment teeming with life. Some of the longest drift dives anywhere exist just off this island, with a whole dive spent just drifting and watching is the norm in this underwater paradise.

Visbility often exceeds 30 metres ++, and Manta Rays abound on cleaning stations throughout the dive sites off Nusa Penida.

We may even be lucky to spot Mola Mola (Oceanic Sunfish). This area is one of the most popular spots in the world for people to see Mola Mola, and we’re visiting during peak Mola season. Fingers crossed!

Lombok Pristine corals, unique critters, uncrowded dive sites and superb visibility make the diving in Lombok some of the best in Indonesia.

We have planned our visit to coincide with the schooling scalloped hammerhead season. Arguably the holy grail of pelagic species, we will spend 2 days diving around the area hoping to see this incredible sight.

Sumbawa and Moyo The diving around the remote areas of Sumbawa and Moyo offer rich diversity and dive sites where we will be the only divers in the water. There are also Whalesharks regularly visiting the local fishing platforms (Bagans) that should give us a very reliable day of SCUBA diving and freediving with the world’s largest fish.

Sumbawa in particular, is only exclusively done from liveaboard’s transiting between Bali and Komodo, which means unspoiled, untouched dive sites.

Sangeang Located just outside the Komodo National Park, Sangeang is a volcanic island that is a must stop on our transit to Komodo.

Muck, macro and weird wonderful critters abound on the dive sites surrounding this active volcano. Because of the nutrient rich environment, pygmy seahorses, frog and scorpion fish and colourful nudibranchs are guaranteed!

Komodo National Park

Considered one of the must visit diving destinations of Indonesia, Komodo National Park’s reputation precedes it. Komodo is big stuff diving at it’s best, but she also has a lot of macro life to offer as well. Over the three days we spend here, expect to see Mantas regularly. Look off into the distance to see other schooling pelgagic species.

Colourful coral reef formations keep us occupied while waiting for dive guide taps indicating big fish encounters.

While land excursions are no longer permitted on Komodo Island itself, we do have permits for a land excursion onto Rinca Island to see the Komodo dragons.

The MY !Amaya Explorer" Amaya ExplorerWhat to expect!

The day starts with a satisfying breakfast of fresh fruit juices, toast, coffee/tea and cereals to satisfy your early morning hunger.

After the first dive a full breakfast is served, and in between eating and diving there will be spare time to relax on the sundeck, read a book, have a chat or check out the mornings digital photos on your laptop.

Lunch is served after the second dive and usually, a quick afternoon siesta.

The food-dive-food routine follows after the third dive of the day, after which you can enjoy a lazy late afternoon on the sundeck, lounging back and soaking in the wonderful landscape with a cup of coffee or tea and some snacks.

Dinner is prepared after the optional night dive (extra cost), and the food is excellent. Hailing from a long tradition of big family home cooked meals in Indonesia, the crew take pride in offering you a delicious menu with the carefully selected & professional chef on board the Amaya Explorer. Maybe a nice glass of wine, watching the stars and then a well-deserved sleep

MY “Amaya Explorer” – General Diving Rules

Obviously on all dive tours, safety is our main concern. The quality of diving

is guaranteed. Indonesia has the best reef diving in the world and operating

from a liveaboard will give you the chance to reach unbelievable sites, but it

must be understood that being remote means potential risks.

The use of a computer, octopus and SMB are mandatory. If you don’t have

these, let us know in advance and we will prepare them for you. There is

some spare rental gear onboard, however we strongly recommend that you

have your gear checked before the trip. Don’t take brand new gear unless

you’re absolutely sure it will function adequately.

Quest Tours – Forster NSW Australia (Licence number: 2TA 10493)

We may be flying a different combination of airlines to ensure that our

connections all work on all legs of our journey.

We flew Garuda Indonesia last year and they were faultless. It is more than

likely we will fly with them again as per the flight plan above. If you choose to

book your own flights, in the event of any schedule changes we will not be

responsible for any punitive charges that may be applied by other travel

agents or airlines.

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is compulsory on all of our tours. We strongly recommend

taking out travel insurance at the same time as paying your deposit.

SureSave, our recommended insurance provider, will cover you at the time

of taking out your policy and until your tour’s return date. We suggest

carefully checking conditions of any other travel insurance you may be

considering.

Please note that DAN Insurance do not cover you for things such as flight

cancellations, lost baggage or similar. They only cover you for diving related

injuries. We recommend additional insurance to cover cancellations, airline

changes and baggage if you wish to use DAN.

The fine print!
