ADVANCE ACCESS TO HSA FUNDSWith Balance Booster™, funds in your health savings account (HSA) are made available before they are contributed. This allows you to pay for qualified expenses with tax-free money before your HSA balance has time to grow. You no longer need to worry about having enough saved in your HSA for immediate costs.

This guide helps you understand how to:• View your account balance• Access ‘Available to spend’ funds• Read your transaction history

View your account balanceIt is easy to see how much you have available to spend from your HSA. Simply log into the HealthEquity member portal or mobile app and view the ‘Available to spend’ balance on the homepage.

Your ‘Cash Balance’ is used to cover expenses before Balance Booster advances are accessed, but the ‘Available to spend’ balance includes all available funds. The ‘HSA Investments’ balance also needs to be $0 before Balance Booster advances are accessed.

DEFINITIONSAvailable to spend: Amount available for immediate use on qualified expenses.

Cash Balance: Contributions made minus any withdrawals, typically not less than $0.

Contribution advances taken: Funds advanced to cover expenses if there is not enough in the ‘Cash Balance’.

Outstanding contribution advances: Contribution advances taken that have not been repaid through payroll contributions.

BALANCE BOOSTER DETAILED VIEWClick the “?” icon by the ‘Available to spend’ balance to view additional Balance Booster details. As contributions are made through payroll and expenses are paid, the various totals adjust. Here’s how:

• The ‘Amount available for contribution advances’ decreases as payroll contributions are made throughout the year. This total also decreases as advances are accessed to pay for expenses when there is no ‘Cash Balance’.

• ‘Outstanding advances’ will increase as these funds are accessed (Contribution advances taken) and decrease as they are repaid (Repayments made).

Access ‘Available to spend’ fundsYou don’t have to take any extra steps to use Balance Booster advances. Simply use your HealthEquity Visa® Health Account Card1, or initiate a payment on the member portal or mobile app. If your cash balance is not sufficient to cover the charges, Balance Booster will cover the rest up to the ‘Available to spend’ balance.

Read your transaction historyTo access your transaction history through the member portal, click ‘Transaction History’ in the ‘Quick Links’ section. Here, you can view all account activity.

AMOUNTS TO BE REPAID‘Outstanding Contribution Advances’ are displayed at the top section of the transaction history screen.

ADVANCES FROM BALANCE BOOSTERWhen Balance Booster advances are used to cover expenses greater than your Cash Balance, you will see an amount labeled ‘From Balance Booster.’

BALANCE BOOSTER REPAYMENTSAs payroll contributions from you or your employer are posted to your account, these funds will be used to repay any advanced funds. This is reported as a negative amount labeled ‘Repayment Contribution Advance’.
