MADHUSUDHANA SARASWATI

Madhusudhana Saraswathi was an Indian philosopher in the Advaitha Vedantha tradition. He wrote the Advaithasiddhi, which is considered a classic. He was born in Bengal in the year 1540 CE (AD) and was called Kamalanayana. He started off trying to disprove Advaitha, but soon became a staunch follower of it. He was proficient in logic and discourses. Madhusdhana was belived to be so learned that it was said that only Goddess Saraswathi knew the boundries of his knowledge. He is known to have written up to 21 literary pieces, all of which were in praise of Advaitha. In spite of being a scholar of Advaitha, Madhusudhana Saraswathi was staunchly devoted to Lord Krishna. His gurus were Visvesvara Saraswathi and Madhava Saraswathi. It is said that Vittalesa, son of Vallabhacharya (a Suddhadvaita scholar), was a disciple of Madhasudhana Saraswathi. He was known to be a contemporary of the Mughal emperor Akbar. It is said that Madhusudhana complained to the emperor about Muslim attacks on Hindu priests. He breathed his last in the year 1640 in Bengal and continues to be celebrated for his contributions to Advaitha tradition
