Dr. Dan BarnardDirector of Bailey Hall

On behalf of Broward College, welcome to another season of hip, smart, engaging, and authentic cultural programming at historic Bailey Hall. We search high and low to bring you the most intriguing and compelling shows that you will find—all in the comfortable and up-close setting of one of the oldest presenting venues in south Florida.

There are four series to choose from this year. Bailey Hall Mainstage brings you superstar Lee Ann Womack; one of the world’s best flamenco dancers, Farruquito; and in Bella Gaia and The Forgotten Kingdom, two shows that combine visual images with live performance—something we are becoming known for. Added to those are Urban Bush Women and America’s Next Hit Musical for a season to remember.

Our partnership with South Florida JAZZ continues with six world-class jazz performances—all of whom are Grammy nominees and/or multiple winners.

Our Bailey Hall Film Series will screen six independent films in our film-club setting followed by a lively post-film discussion with the filmmaker. These films will be announced in May and will be posted to our website: baileyhall.org.

Finally, the Rosemary Duffy Larson Classical Series brings you an awesome lineup of solo and chamber music from the world of classical music.

Discount ticket packages are on sale now. Buy any of the four series individually or use our Pick Six option to create your own. For maximum savings consider the Everything Pass and you’ll save over 35%. Tickets to individual shows will go on sale on July 1.

No one does cultural programming like Bailey Hall. We hope you join us often.

Cordially,Dr. Dan Barnard, DMAAssociate Dean of Cultural Affairs

9/22Lee Ann WomackSaturday, September 22, 2018 | 7:30 p.m.Adult Tickets: $50-$85 NO DISCOUNTS

NPR Music says Lee Ann Womack “occupies rare terrain in country music.” Her latest album The Lonely, The Lonesome & The Gone (ATO) has “some of the most immediate and deeply felt vocal performances” of Lee Ann’s career, and that she captures “tapping into the emotional core of country” (NPR). Praised by anyone from The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, New Yorker and more, Lee Ann has sung for multiple presidents, performed award-winning duets with everyone from Willie Nelson and John Prine to John Legend, and much more. Lee Ann has built a career on songs that slice life wide open to let the pain and desire pour out; her music is the ultimate form of connection, unvarnished and true. With six albums and international chart-topping singles to her credit, Lee Ann has earned six Country Music Association Awards (including Single and Album of the Year), five Academy of Country Music Awards, a Grammy, and much more.

“Lee Ann Womack could choose to sing anything in the world. She could sing the periodic table or the label on a can of baked beans or an essay about the various ways paint dries and it would sound thrilling.” – NPR.org

“Womack is one of American music’s most powerful interpreters of good material, whatever the genre.”– San Diego Tribune

9/29Urban Bush WomenSaturday, September 29, 2018 | 7:30 p.m.Adult Tickets: $19-$49

Since Urban Bush Women (UBW) burst onto the dance scene in 1984, the company has made an indelible mark on the field with bold, innovative, demanding and exciting works that challenge long-held assumptions about women, people of color, body types, styles of movement, society, history and appropriate content for the stage. The company weaves contemporary dance, music, and text with the history, culture, and spiritual traditions of African-Americans and the African diaspora, exploring the transformation of struggle and suffering into the bittersweet joy of survival.

“Zollar’s Urban Bush Women possess a gorgeous movement quality, soft yet grounded, as if they are moving through clear, still water. ” – The Washington Post

The signature event series for Broward College, Bailey Hall Mainstage events represent some of the most awe-inspiring, imaginative, and evocative performances currently touring the nation.

11/16The Forgotten Kingdom: Guy Mendilow Ensemblewith sand artist, Kseniya SimonovaFriday, November 16, 2018 | 7:30 p.m.Adult Tickets: $19-$49

The Forgotten Kingdom’s intertwining music and storytelling conjure voices from Sephardic communities lost to war and upheaval. It’s an evocative trek through former Ottoman lands during the turmoil of the 1920s and ’30s, during the rise of fascism. Rendering stories and songs of an older age with drama, humour and heart, The Forgotten Kingdom finds highly resonant, deeply moving connections to contemporary struggles, debates, and dilemmas. Sephardic Music specialists, the Guy Mendilow Ensemble are joined for this project by sand artist Kseniya Simonova, whose masterful sand animation offers a beautiful metaphor both for this story and the project itself: creating something new from something old; something that, by its very nature, is constantly evolving.

Give to Bailey HallBailey Hall is passionate about our role in raising the quality of living for our community by providing ongoing access to high-quality, life-changing performing arts events in our venue. As all similar arts organizations can attest, the cost for these performances can never be fully defrayed through ticket sales alone, but require additional funding from sponsors, benefactors, and by generous individuals who share our passion and choose to invest their resources to make a difference in our community. Gifts to Bailey Hall are accepted through the Broward College Foundation and are tax deductible as allowed by law.
