Tile Trends 2020 Pastels

Dare to be Different
Monochrome
Pastel shades are a soft introduction to colour for those daring to step away from a neutral colour palette. Millennial pink was a firm favourite of
2019 that is here to stay, and the Sanipex Gallery has an abundance of subdued shades to mix together. Paler tones are also a great backdrop to
add pizzazz to white sanitaryware and Chrome brassware.
Monochrome - the timeless favourite of decades gone by that never fails to look stylish. There are Victorian
tile prints, textured tiles and timeless marbles to choose from – not forgetting the new age ‘Frammenti’ organic
mosaics. We have a comprehensive ‘colourless’ collection at the Sanipex Gallery, which look stunning with Matt black
brassware or contrast beautifully with organic materials such as brushed brass Zanzibar and wooden furniture.
Adding touches of nature is a firm favourite in all aspects of design, as it is proven to help us relax; so naturally these textures are well suited to the relaxing retreat of the bathroom. Natural textures can be mixed together too - from concrete with wood for an industrial hint, to marble with brass for opulence. Whilst coloured wood and pastel onyx slabs reinvent the natural trend, neutral colours are still favoured by many as they are easy on the eye and soothing for the soul.
Personalisation has never been more popular. Stepping away from the ubiquitous and embracing eccentricity is easier than ever with an abundance of wallpaper patterns and bright colours available. Mixing patterns together or creating an ombre effect is a trending new norm. Gone are the days of staying ‘safe’ for fear of boredom from bold choices - tiles no longer have to last 10 years or please a buyer for resale. With so much choice you can refresh your tiles every few years – so why not dare to be different?!
Classic Blue – Pantone colour of the year and a classic choice for bathrooms. Tiles are a great place to start when designing with a
colour palette as they offer the most choice. Be sure to consider the ratio of each colour in the room and what you pair with the blue tile: a near black tile will add drama, whilst wood effects will add warmth. If
in doubt with a patterned tile, pick from shades within the print.
In the 80’s Professor Stephen Kellert taught us of our innate attraction to nature, recent years have boomed with Biophilic
design to bring the outdoors in - it’s about the feeling the space gives us as well as the aesthetic. For the less green-fingered,
green tiles are a perfect alternative. Try green Onyx with Zanzibar brassware for a luxurious choice or Matt Black with
large scale prints for a maximalist design. From palm leaf prints to abstract jungle depictions you can adorn your walls with
exotic escapism.
Metallic details in the bathroom are no longer limited to brassware. You can choose from iridescent plisse platinum tiles and copper subway tiles for an eye popping interior – these tiles also look stunning in entryways and gleam in the natural light! If you prefer soft touches, use delicate decors with metallic accents in the same shade as your brassware to accentuate each aspect. Glitter edges to pleated tiles and paint splatters on mosaics are a perfect way to achieve this touch of glamour.
Bas Relief – you’ve seen it but may not know its name. 3D, textured, beveled and embossed patterns have been inscribed in walls since the 19th century, but now contemporary tiles with this effect play perfectly with the light for subtle drama. In a room historically characterised by hard polished surfaces, these textured tiles add a layer of tactility and depth to a design. Sticking to neutral shades also allows the texture to be the stand-out aspect – figuratively and literally.

The Sanipex Gallery tile library offers hundreds of tile choices with our tile experts on hand to help you create your own moodboard - we also have some inspiration for you with our trend pages.
Trends evolve with the way we live our lives as well as modern technology. Biophilic design is more popular as we spend more time indoors, tiles continue to grow in size and patterns are becoming more detailed thanks to evolving technology. This is why trends come and go and also why they evolve. Some trends stay around longer than predicted when they are too well loved to see them go - like subway tiles which have a new format and include texture in recent years - yet the real beauty of trends is that they offer incredible inspiration.
Demand for personalised design has also opened the market to creating an infinite number of pairing possibilities- almost anything goes. Clashing prints and using maximalist colour palettes replace the ‘norm’ of a one-colour, one-size tile. Let us inspire and guide you to creating your dream space…
