Introduction► Located in the northern part of Karnataka
► New district carved out of Bijapur District in 1997
► Divided into 6 Administrative Divisions: Badami,Bilagi, Bagalkot, Hunagund, Jamakhandi andMudhol
► Ruled upon by dynasties such as AdilshahiEmpire, Nawabs of Savanura, Marathas andrulers such as Haidar Ali
► Location of several UNESCO heritage sites
► Rich in Limestone, Pink Granite, Copper, Ironore, Dolomite
► Popular for its silk and handloom industries andfamous Ilkal sarees
Bagalkote town is 90 kms away from the city of Vijayapura. According to a legend,the town was believed to be granted to the Vajantries (ie. Village orchestra) ofRavana. The district has worldwide renowned historical destinations includingtemples of Pattadakal, Mahakuteshwar, Shivayogmandir and Banashankaritemple. The place illustrates vivacious colours and can be portrayed as the city ofancient Indian temples
