With the addition of the ECLiPSE® SOLAR™ (Special Operations Low-vis Armor) family of hard armor plates, BAE Systems continues its leadership position in hard armor. The ECLiPSE® SOLAR™ series has been designed to specifications set forth by the Special Operations Forces Equipment Advanced Requirements (SPEAR) under the Body Armor/Load Carriage System (BALCS) program.
ECLiPSE® SOLAR™ plates vary in weight, size, shape and performance levels to accommodate many mission
requirements. The two main geometries are SPEAR cut and Swimmer cut. SPEAR cuts are available in baseline, tactical and low-visibility (low-vis) designs. The Swimmer cut, specifically designed to allow adequate range of motion during swimming, is available in tactical and low-vis designs.
While the baseline meets the traditional SAPI architecture, the tactical provides added protection to allow the plate to be worn without soft armor. The low-visibility option provides superior protection in a concealable package.
