Ahmedabad- The city ofAhmed

Was founded in 1411 A.D by Sultan Ahmed Shah. He built a new city Ahmadabad on the elevated plain ofBhadra on the east banks of river Sabarmati. The old Hindu capital Anahilvada-Patan was abandoned due toincreasing insecurities.

It was built close to the trading centre of Ashaval where theemperor had supporters and hence felt more secure. It was planned according to the ancient Indo-Aryan tradition of aroyal capital with main roads, thoroughfares and subsidiary roads.

Chowks These were Community Open Spaces.

Dovecotes and Community Wells were commonly observed features.
