Quick travel guide for Koh Samet:

Bangkok > Ban Phe > Koh Samet ( Na Dan ) > Hat Sai Kaew > Ao Thian / Ao Wai

General Information - Departure: Ban Phe is the point of our departure to Koh Samet. Rayongis the place where we easily

can get to an ATM and its located just a few kilometers outside Ban Phe. If we are in need

of an ATM or something else that is neededbefore we leave for the first Island we are going

to make a stop here. Otherwise we just continue quickly to the little harbor city Ban Phe.

From Ban Phe well be taking thefaireover the seas to Koh Samet.

When we get to Koh Samet we will arrive to the biggest villageNa Dan. It is where well

start our route on Koh Samet. Well be trying to get quickly to Ao Thianor Ao Waiwhich is

    on the east coast.

See and do in Koh Samet- Destination:The lost resort, the beaches here might be the most beautiful ones in whole Thailand. So

while were here, we definitely will enjoy the beaches. There are loads of bungalows on the

east coast of Koh Samet, it is also where the beaches are the best.

*Hat Sai Kaew (Diamond Beach)One of the most beautiful and most popular beaches on Ko Samet,

Hat Sai Kaew is 1 km long and 25-30 m wide. Most of this space is taken up with deck chairs from the

restaurants. The name speaks for itself, Hat Sai Kaew, which literally means Crystal Sand Beach, is a nice

beach filled with activities. Visitors can enjoy sunbathing, swimming, jet skiing, windsurfing (700 baht/hr),

    catamaran sailing (1000 baht/hr) a banana boat.

*Ao Thian (Candlelight Beach)Ao Thians topography is painted by rocky beach in which some nice

spots for skin diving are available. This beach is very quiet and free from group tours.

*Ao Wai is located within a short walking distance of Candlelight Beach but far from city center and no

lights at night. Shaded by coconut trees, the beach is a quite, scenic and serene spot for sea lovers.

BE CAREFUL - EXTRA NOTES + EMERGENCY:* Note: The ticket sellers may state that you must buy your national park ticket from them also but this can be

done at the gate as you enter the park. They may also state that you cannot buy the return from the island, and

must buy it at the Ban Phe pier. This is not true. Only buy a one-way ticket at Ban Phe pier.

    * Dont believe taxi drivers that says its a long distance between Na Dan to Hat Sai Kaew, you are capable of

walking. It takes approximately 15 minutes.

    * If it occurs any health problems we are able to call 03861-2999which is

a direct phone number to a hospital located on Koh Samet.

    2.) Pattaya

    How to get there:

Well be taking the bus too either Rayong or

Ban Phe deepening on ATM/other needs.Hopefully well be able to take the bus right

be visting Pattaya which is a very famous tourist destination. This leads to higher prices, and it

will be expensive to stay here, therefore we wont be here that long. However it is a perfect

time to do fun things - like visting an amusement park or a water park. To get here well be

going back from Koh Samet to Rayongand from there go to Pattaya by bus or taxi.

Covering an area of 100,000sqm, the Four Regions Floating Market is separated into four sections each representing

and selling items from the four major parts of Thailand (north, northeast, central and south). Expect to find many

eateries, fruit stalls, souvenir shops and some art galleries. There is also a cultural show every afternoon. The 350million baht market has over 114 shops and water vendors selling authentic Thai food, desserts and specialties from all

over the kingdom. For a floating market experience, hire a man-powered boat to get around and discover the richness of the

surrounding Thai architecture and riverside life. Typically, the boat is big enough for four people and can be hired for a

    small fee for around 30 minutes.Opening Hours:10:00 23:00

Location:451/304 Moo 12, Sukhumvit Road Pattaya

BE CAREFUL - EXTRA NOTES + EMERGENCY:

*Pick pocketing is a big problem in town mostly in crowded places like Walking street try to follow the basic

rules like dont carry your passport or more money that you need with you and try to have exact money for

    motorbike taxis.

    * :It's very simple to get this discount. You have to book your hotel by Internet. In fact on Internet, you can get

a travel agent price which is always cheaper than if you book the hotel directly.

I think you can get the cheapest prices for Pattaya on asiarooms. Go to : www.asiarooms.com/

    3.) Koh Samui

    How to get there:

Well be going from Pattayas Airport

    (U-Tapao) to Koh Samui (Samui,

    Thailand (USM)).

    Flight.From: U-TapaoDestination: Koh Samui.Verhicle: Airplane.Travel time: 1 Hours 10 Minutes.Price: 3800 Bath / Person.

General Information - Departure: This is just another paradise island, thou theres a bit more flow of tourists here. But that

doesnt change that you can find different budget stays. After getting of the plane at the

airport youc and directly check for stays, there will be a location outside the airport where

Thai-people want to rent you a place to stay.

See and do in Koh Samui- Destination:

    * Just explore the island and the beaches* Hat Chawenr and Hat Lamai* Very cheap massages here

BE CAREFUL - EXTRA NOTES + EMERGENCY:

    * the taxi Buisiness is like a big mafia.the capes dont have taximeters on samui.thats illegal. therefore ask for the price at first.make bagaining.because the charge is everytime ver ry expensive.

from airport to lamai almost 800 bhat.thats crazy.to take a taxi is the biggest trap on ko samui.the better&cheaper way is to take a truck taxi the day chrarge

    4.) Koh Phangan

    How to get there:

Get to a pier, preferably Maenam

Pier. Then its only a 30 minutes

ferry ride to Koh Phangan. However,

a ferry is the key here.

    Ferry.

From: A pier, preferably MaenamDestination: Koh Phangan Verhicle: Ferry.

    Travel time:30 Minutes.

    Price: 200 Bath / Person.

General Information - Departure: My thought about this departure is to get here as soon as possible after Koh Samui, since its half the prices on

this island if you compare to Koh Samui. Also this destination Koh Phangan, is famous for its beach partyswhen its full moon. So hopefully we can experience that.

We dont know where we will dock from the ferry, its depending from what pier we leave Koh Samui. So we

need to be flexible on this part of the route. However if were lucky we land in Thong Sala- which is

Phangans capital. Because we will need to go there to get an ATM. Because theres the only place were we

will be amiable to get money. So before leaving to different places on the island, grab some money from an

    ATMin the capital .

    9/18

See and do in Koh Phangan- Destination:My plan for this destination is to experience some real backpacking. Were going to head against Ban

Madeua Wan - which is not a village with beaches, its a village located in the middle of the island -

look at the map. Here well be doing a fun activity, we are going to wander up the mountainKhaoRa.If we get all the way at the top we will be able to have a view 620 meters above the sea.

BE CAREFUL - EXTRA NOTES + EMERGENCY:

    * Emergency - 077 377034 which is a number to a hospital near the capital of Koh Phangan.* When you are in Koh Phangan you tend to forget that Thailand has some of the most stringent

controls on drugs in the world. Koh Phangan feels like it's own country, where anything goes. Drugs

like MDMA/ecstacy, coke, opium, mushrooms and weed are freely available and it seems like everyone

is on them, especially at the moon parties. But don't get complacent! There are undercover police all

over the island and they catch foreigners quite often. They look especially for "farangs" because they

can usually get more money from them. If you are caught with weed, you will have to pay around

$2000 US minimum, and if you don't have it you will go to jail until such time as they give you a

    depart date.

    Ferry.

From: Thong SalaDestination: Koh Tao Verhicle: Ferry.

    Travel time:2 Hours 30 Minutes.Price: 150 Bath / Person.

General Information - Departure: This destination is also called The Turtle Island . This is a really small island and were going

here mostly for the beaches and its size. This is the last island well be visting before we head of to

    Krabi.

See and do in Koh Tao- Destination

Its an island famous for its diving schools. So if Rebecka wants to take a Diving Certificate I suggest

she does it here. Also were just here to explore the beaches and enjoy of being on a parades island that

not many tourists visits. However to have some fun here we might invest of renting a 4-wheeled quad

bike to explore the island? Just because its so small

    10

    11/18

BE CAREFUL - EXTRA NOTES + EMERGENCY:

    * Sairee Star travel" when we borrowed a dirt bike and I had to leave my passport with them as

security. On returning the bike the boss goes over the bike with a fine tooth comb looking for faults and reasons to

extract more money from you.He found a small scratch on the front gaurd which he said I put the there and ripped me off 1000

THB and would not give back my passport till I paid it. * The mosquitoes and other biting insects on Koh Tao were voracious. Once I realised this I covered

myself in repellent but at any unguarded moment I was being eaten alive. One of the dive guides told me that another person who worked with was in hospital with dengue fever

and that there had been about 6 cases on the island recently.

6.) Krabi How to get there:

Its time for us to travel way more

far down in the southern Thailandand also to the other coast of

    7.) Kuala

    Lumpur -

    Malaysia

    How to get there:

Now we want to ensure us

selfs to get out of Thailand

and then back to get another

30 days stay there without a

visa. So our plan here is to get

    to Malaysias city Kula

Lumpur. Get a break from all

    the beaches and explore an

    Asian city.Flight.From: Krabis Airport.Destination: Kula Lumpur Airport.Verhicle: Airplane.Travel time: 4-5 Hours.Price: 2200 Bath / Person.

General Information - Departure: Kuala lumpur, a big city in Malaysia. Here we can spend time on do things that not has anything to

do with sunbathing, beaches and stuff like that. Its now time for a change - museums, big buildings

and shopping! To get here we will be heading from Ao Nang to Krabis Airport, and take the flight to

Kuala Lumpur, then train to the heart of KL.

    13

  • 8/13/2019 Backpacking Guide

    14/18

See and do in Kuala Lumpur- Destination:

We can really do what ever wed like here. Go watch different tempels - check out the bird park, or why

not go t a museum? I think after just 2-3 days here well be wanting to go back to Thailand and thebeaches, since its not for free staying in KL. So after spending some money here well be good to go

    back.

BE CAREFUL - EXTRA NOTES + EMERGENCY:

    * Pick pocketing.

    8.) PhuketHow to get there:

    15/18

See and do in Phuket- Destination:The only thing I know well be doing here is to visit The Tiger Kingdom - where youre able to getin touch with tigers and take pictures. Thats what we have planned. I guess well do that pretty

quickly and then head of to our next destination.

BE CAREFUL - EXTRA NOTES + EMERGENCY:

    * UPDATE: Phuket is encountering a resurgence of Dengue Fever. Be sure to take precautions. It is vital to carry mosquito repellent with you to any areas of Thailand, as with much of Asia,

particularly if you have an allergy to mosquito bites. Although Malaria is not a problem in Phuket, it

is wise to take precautions. The mosquitos that carry Malaria are the brown coloured Anopheles and

Dengue is borne by the Aedes Aegypti, which is most active in the early morning and late afternoon.

They tend to dwell in domesticated areas, around houses and in shade, as opposed to the Anopheles

which tends to live in the jungle areas. Mosquito spray is cheap and effective, also travel sized and

widely available, so be sure to carry some with you, particularly in wet areas.

    9.) Phi Phi Island

    How to get there:

We will be going from a Pier in Phuket. Most

likely Rassada Pier or Sea Angel Pier. Take the

BE CAREFUL - EXTRA NOTES + EMERGENCY:* This is an urgent update! Unfortunately many of the beaches in South-Thailand have incidents of

Jellyfish with burning tentacles. It may look like the spreading is increasing.Phi Phi Island and the eastern side of Phuket is one of the places where the most poisonous jellyfish,

the socalled Box Jellyfish, have been observed. Not far from Phi-Phi island, in Klong Dao beach, Koh Lanta, a 10 year old swedish girl went into an

anaphylactic shock and died after Box Jellyfish stings.
