Started in 1999 with the support of Jesuit Refugee Services (JRS) to advocate against torture, help and support torture survivors

Vision : - Our vision is to build a world free from torture, being aware of the need to rehabilitate and encourage the support to the victims of torture and their dependents.
Mission: - To identify victims of
torture and assess their needs and other information in this regard.

information on their behalf and assess their needs;
To provide counselling, psychosocial assistance and medical treatment in our own clinic;
To assist them in educational matter, such as vocational or technical training, basic micro business skill training (income generating activities) for their survival. SAP/GL 4
StructureStructure
SAP/GL has a personnel constituency of 20 volunteer workers: lawyer, social workers, nurses, psychologists and a physician
SAP/GL offers physical, psychosocial treatment and rehabilitation to torture survivors.

PROTECTION/PREVENTIONPROTECTION/PREVENTIONEfforts on prevention focus mainly on: - support to victims- evolution of legislation and policy- health services and care providers’
training - educational programmes and campaigns
to change attitudes and behaviours. Advice activities, therapies and support
groups are initiatives conceived to alleviate traumas of sexual violence and accelerate the healing process. These types of services have been proved to be useful after the aggressions.

Since different crisis have burst, several regions of the Great Lakes have known a strong increase of sexual and physical violence, particularly directed towards women and teenagers, and girls. Today still, young students from primary and secondary school are sometimes forced to drop out of school to submit to early and/or forced marriage.
