    The country is bounded by

    India in the north and west; by theBay of Bengal in the south, andfinally by part of India andMyanmar in the eastern side.

    The total area of the country is

    147,570 sq km (56,977 sq. miles).

    A wide portion of land iscovered by large rivers such asthe Padma, the Jamuna, theTeesta, the Meghna, theBrahmaputra, and the Surma.

    There are also thousandsof tributaries with a total length ofabout 24,140 km. These rivers areconnected to the Bay of Bengal.
