For Back to the future
Date release• The release date of the back to the future film was on 3rd of July 1985
in the USA.• This was a suitable release time as kids were out of school and could
go and see the movie with friends and family, and even more than once.• The fact that the film had time travelling in it appealed to children at
that age with the use of technology.
Films that came out the same time (1985)• The Goonies, The breakfast club, Rocky IV, Mad Max beyond thunder dome, Clue, Teen Wolf.• Most of these films came out in the summer time as well, so Back to
the Future had a lot of competition.
What made Back to the future successful.• Firstly the introduction: It flawlessly sets up the film’s central themes of time and
space, provides heaps of exposition, presents the clock imagery that runs through the entire franchise and foreshadows events further on the film in one simple tracking shot; but most importantly it grabs your attention instantly.• It had the coolest movie car ever (DeLorean).• It was not a serious science fiction film, it contained a lot of humour – Its sub
genre was comedy.• Time travelling appealed to everybody at that time, and everybody was
interested in it.• The trailer and poster provided key information but did not give too much
information away to spoil the film.
Proof of what made back to the Future successful.
