carry a weighting of 5. Level III modules carry a weighting of 5 except COM 3010 which

carries a weighting of 3.

Each module will carry 100 marks and will be assessed as follows (unless otherwise

specified)

Assessment will be based on written examination of 2-3-hour duration carrying a weighting

of 70% and continuous assessment a weighting of 30% of total marks except for the

following modules, which will be assessed by continuous assessment only EDS 1020Y,

CS 1020, EDS 2010, COM 3010 and DT 3001Y.

submitted in week 14 of semester 2, Level 3.

11. Repeat and Termination of Registration

If the CPA of a student is < 40 for an academic year, the student will have to repeat the

entire academic year, and retake modules as and when offered. However, s/he will not be

required, if s/he wishes, to retake module(s) for which Grade C or above has been obtained.

Students will be allowed to repeat only once over the entire duration of the Programme of

Studies.

Registration will be terminated if the CPA of the student remains below 40 at the end of an

academic year and the student has already repeated one year of study.

A student’s registration will lapse at the end of the semester in which s/he has successfully

completed the minimum requirements for the award of the degree.

BEd (Hons) Home Economics and Food Studies - IE348

1. Objectives

This programme aims at enhancing the content knowledge and the pedagogical skills of

Home Economics teachers who will be primarily involved in the teaching of Food and

Nutrition/Food Studies at upper secondary level. In order to make the teaching and learning

process meaningful and enjoyable, teachers need a good mastery of their subject area and

various teaching and learning strategies as well as relevant attributes and predispositions.

Hence, this programme provides a realistic balance between pedagogy and subject studies,

building on the knowledge, attitudes and skills developed during the Teacher’s Diploma

Home Economics programme to further foster knowledge and skills in nutrition, food

science, consumer studies, pedagogy and research methodology. It is anticipated that upon

completion of this programme, the trainees will be empowered to teach Home Economics

at lower secondary level and Food Studies at HSC level.

11. Repeat and Termination of Registration

If the CPA of a student is < 40 for an academic year, the student will have to repeat the

entire academic year, and retake modules as and when offered.

However, s/he will not be required, if s/he wishes, to retake module(s) for which Grade C

or above has been obtained.

12. For those programmes where there are no regular intakes, examinations for repeat

modules will be organised upon recommendation of the Board of Studies.

NOTE: Students should also refer to the “GENERAL INFORMATION TO

STUDENTS HANDBOOK (2012-2014)’’.
