Come celebrate the beginning of summer with your

friends as we kick off the 2017 Summer Reading

Club! There will be cake pops, crafts, a manga artist, face painting, and

more! Costumes are encouraged but not necessary to enjoy the festivities!

Unless specifically mentioned, all teen programs are free and available to Brentwood District teens. Please have a Brentwood Library card available when you register for programs.

Sign -up for May programs begins April 22. Sign-up for June programs begins May 20. Call 631-273-7883, ext. 210, 211, or 212, or sign-up online. Please be on time for programs. Your place in a program is held for ten minutes.

CSI: WHO DONE IT? Monday, May 1, 3:00-4:00pm

From Sherlock Holmes to the OJ Simpson

trial, people have been intrigued by the ques-

tion…who done it? Explore the science of

crime scene investigation techniques: Finger-

prints, chromatography, shoe print analysis,

hair and fiber evidence. Applying these

techniques, teens examine the evidence of a

crime and try to figure out who done it!

5 HOUR PRE-LICENSING COURSE

Wednesdays, May, 3, 17, June 14, 28

4:00-9:00pm

You must be 16 years or older and have a

learner’s permit to take this mandatory

course. On the day of the class, bring $35

cash or money order made out to AOK Driv-

ing School. Must be on time for class, no

one will be admitted after 4pm.

ESCAPE THE LIBRARY Wednesday, May 10, 3:00-4:00pm

Escape the Library is a fun, interactive game

taking place right here at your library. While

it looks like any other ordinary room, it’s

actually a mystery puzzle. Find the hidden

objects, figure out the clues and solve the

puzzles to earn your freedom and “Escape

the Library.” You have 60 minutes, so be

quick!

ZOMBIE MAKEUP TUTORIAL Friday, May 12, 3:00-5:00pm

Are you a Walking Dead fan or just think

zombies are cool? Join us and learn how to

transform yourself into a zombie! The tutori-

al will be a hands-on workshop focusing on

expression and creativity. Each teen will go

over, step by step, the procedure of creating

themselves into a zombie using latex, face

paint, and tissue paper.

HISTORICAL LONG ISLAND CRIMES

Monday, May 15, 3:00-4:30pm

Are you interested in forensics and criminol-

ogy? Learn about some famous Long Island

crimes in this intriguing program. We’ll be

talking about the Amityville Horror House

and the Angel of Death from the 1980s.

It may look like sushi, but it definitely won't

our candy sushi program where we'll make

Fudge - a great candy to learn how to make.

Marshmallows, cookies and pretzels extracts

will be provided so you can customize your

fudge. Take home in a tin to set and enjoy

with family and friends.

SHARPIE TIE DYE Wednesday, June 21, 3:00-4:00pm

Sharpies are well-known for their permanent

ink markers and pens. The ink in these will

not dissolve in water. However, the ink does

dissolve in rubbing alcohol. As the shirt ab-

sorbs the alcohol, it begins to pick up the ink

and move it along with the alcohol as it

spreads. Gloves and science goggles will be

provided for fun and cleanliness.

FRIDAY GAMING Friday, June 23, 3:00-4:30pm

create thank you plaques for Veterans living

in CONCERN apartments across Long Is-

land.

DOG TREATS FOR CHARITY Wednesday, May 24, 3:00-4:00pm

Help brighten a dog’s day by making home-

made dog treats from scratch using cookie

cutters to make pet-friendly shapes! Mrs.

Kathy will take these treats home, bake them

and donate them to a local animal shelter or

animal rescue group. The duration of the

class is 1 hour Community service certificate

for 1 hour given to each participant.

*Be aware, peanut butter will be used

during this activity.*

BIRTHDAY IN A BOX Monday, June 5, 4:00-5:00pm

Birthday in a Box is an established charitable

organization. Teens will help a child who

does not have the financial means to cele-

brate their birthday. Help create decorations

and a few presents as well to make a child’s

birthday brighter!

TOY PARAMEDIC Monday, June 19, 3:00-4:00pm

Need some volunteer hours and have nothing

to do on your school break? Volunteer to

help us keep the library’s toddler playtime

toys clean and in tip-top shape.
