WDSRA and its member park districts believe all individuals should be provided with leisureopportunities that allow for performance attheir highest level of ability. We understand notevery person who has a special need desiresWDSRA programming. In cooperation with ourmember districts, WDSRA staff will assist andadvise any resident who is interested inparticipating (inclusion) in a local park districtprogram.WDSRA will provide the type ofsupport deemed necessary for successfulparticipation. Supports may include trainingwith park district staff members, consultationwith the individual and their family members,and the assistance of a support staff member.WDSRA provides all inclusion services at nocost to the individual.

BowlingCome join us each week for WDSRA's favorite pastime!You will bowl with old friends and meet new ones asyou work on improving your game. Beginners throughadvanced bowlers are welcome. Fee includes up to twogames (if time allows), shoe rental, and adaptiveequipment. Please note: Athletes will be required towear a mask at all times. Unified PickleballWDSRA is offering the fun and exciting sport ofPickleball. Pickleball is a fast-growing racquet sport.This fun and engaging game is played on a badmintoncourt with a lower net and can be played as singles aswell as doubles. You will learn strategies that include:lobbing, overhead slamming, and fast volley exchangesat the net. Paddles and balls will be provided. Please note: A team consists of a WDSRA athlete and afamily member or friend as the unified partner. Youwill need to provide the name of your partner whenregistering. You will be required to wear a mask at alltimes.

Teams will consist of either 3 or 6 players. Athletes are responsible for creating their own team andappointing a team captain to register the team. At the time of registration the team captain will need toprovide the names of their teammates. A team of 6 will practice on one half of the court and will not intermingle with the team on the other half ofthe court. A team of 3 will be paired with another Team of 3 and this will remain your team of 6 for the duration of theprogram.The program will be 40 minutes in length and after registration you will be assigned a practice slot either at6:30 pm or 7:20 pm.

Wildcats Basketball Team SkillsWelcome to the Wildcats team skills program. This is your chance to get together with your group of friends towork on team defense and offense. Practices will consist of drills and team scrimmages. Groups will remaintogether for the entirety of the program season. 2021 Rec & Roll Program

Rec & Roll is a community based recreation program that emphasizes leisure independence, social interaction,community outings and service projects. Staff utilizes recreational activities to help people with disabilitiesdevelop and enhance their quality of life. The daily schedule can include animal therapy, volunteer projects,gar-dening, field trips, fitness, outdoor recreation, music therapy, crafts and games. Upon occasion additionalmoney is required for activities.

WHO: Adults (ages 22 - 55)TIME: 9am-2pm

Participants must be able to successfully participate in a 1 staff to 6 participants ratio and perform all of theirown daily living skills. Rec & Roll 1 staff to 3 Participant RatioDue to COVID-19 related regulations, our 1:3 programs are onhold.   If your family member needs a little more assistance to besuccessful, then this day program is for you. The dailyschedule is a mixture of staff-directed and participant-directed large and small group activities based on amonthly theme. Participants must be able to successfullyparticipate in a 1 staff to 3 participant ratio. Rec & RollFountain View and Rec & Roll Fort Hill are designed forparticipants who may require some assistance with dailyliving skills and may require emotional support from staff.Please send a sack lunch daily. The program limit is 9.

Rec & Roll Observation Visit New participants interested in the opportunity to registerfor Rec & Roll must pre-arrange an observation day todetermine whether they meet the programs eligibilityrequirements.  Due to COVID-19 safety procedures, thismay be done via Zoom or over the phone.  Thisobservation will help staff determine which Rec & Roll ismost appropriate. Staff ratio will be determined at thistime by the Day Program Assistant Manager. Rec & Roll Registration & Payment Information When registering for Rec & Roll a $100 non-refundable deposit is required for each day of theweek registered. The $100 deposit secures yourspot in the program and does not count as yourfirst payment, which is due by December 15th. Your$100 deposit goes toward your total bill. Theremainder of the balance should be divided into 10equal payments: your total bill for the year must bepaid in full before you are eligible to register forthe new calendar year. Payments can be made bycheck payable to WDSRA, Visa, MasterCard oronline at WDSRA. If you are paying with a Visa orMasterCard please call the WDSRA front officeat 630-681-0962. Current monthly payments aredue on the 15th of each month. A $10 late fee will beapplied to each day of the week of Rec & Roll youattend. At the end of the month, if you have notmade your payment, you will be suspended fromthe program until your payment is up to date andyour late fees are paid. Your spot in the programwill not be held longer than one month. Participants must submit a WDSRA registrationform and a current annual information form.

Sports Leagues WDSRA has developed a Sports League Code of Ethicsfor athletes, coaches and parents which is based onthe Character Counts program. The programemphasizes six core ethical values: trustworthiness,respect, responsibility, fairness, caring andcitizenship. Athletes, coaches and parents may beasked to sign this code to participate in a team sportsprogram.

Special OlympicsIn order for an athlete to compete in a SpecialOlympics program a current Special OlympicsMedical form must be on file at the WDSRA office. This form is separate from the WDSRA annual form.The Special Olympics Medical form is valid for twoyears from the date of the doctor’s signature.

WDSRA Policy states an athlete cannot register for aSpecial Olympic program until you have a currentform on file. If you are interested in participating in aSpecial Olympics program please contact the WDSRAoffice for a form or download a form from our websiteat www.wdsra.com.

Parents and athletes are responsible for returning the completed form to the WDSRA office before you register. The form must have original signatures ofboth the doctor and parent/guardian.

The tournament fee must be pre-paid priorto participation in the tournament. The fee isnonrefundable.

Atlanto-Axial Subluxations (ASC)Individuals who have Down Syndrome have a highrisk of having ASC. For the safety of WDSRAparticipants with Down Syndrome, a doctor’s noteproving they have been cleared of this condition by anx-ray is required to participate in any program thatcould potentially injure the neck area.

Annual Information Form WDSRA requires all participants to complete an annualinformation form prior to participation. This form expiresevery year on December 31. The form provides us withvaluable information which enables us to offer programsthat are safe and appropriate for your needs. If you arenew to WDSRA programs or do not currently have anannual form on file, please contact our office and requestone. If the agency receives a registration form that doesnot have a current annual, we will send you one tocomplete and return.

Behavior CodeParticipants, staff, volunteers and parents are expected toexhibit appropriate behavior at all times. The followingguidelines have been developed to make WDSRA’sprograms safe and enjoyable for everyone. Additionalrules may be developed for particular programs andathletic leagues as deemed necessary by staff. Staff,participants, volunteers and parents shall:

New Participant Intake WDSRA requires all new participants to complete anintake with the Outreach Supervisor prior toattending their first program. The intake allows theagency to get to know the participant and theirindividual needs better. This additional informationprovides WDSRA staff the opportunity to properlystaff programs and provide an environment that willbe successful and enjoyable to the participant. If youare new to the programs and have not done an intakeplease contact Outreach Supervisor at 630-681-0962.For safety reasons, an individual without currentannual information and intake forms on file will notbe permitted to participate in WDSRA programs.

WDSRA staff will look at all circumstancesbeginning two hours prior to the starting time ofthe program or first pick-up to determine if theprogram should be canceled.If the program is canceled, program staff willattempt to reach all participants and staff byphone calling post message to inform them of thecancellation. Missed programs due to weather are made up theweek following the end of the program. If this isnot possible, you will be issued a refund perprogram refund guidelines.

WDSRA Weather Cancellation PolicyIn the event of severe weather, WDSRA may decide tocancel programs in the best interest of ourparticipants. The following guidelines will be used todetermine cancellations:

Severe Fall Weather Outdoor programs or indoor programs without airconditioning: temperature above 95 degrees, a heatindex above 100 degrees or a heat advisory issues bythe National Weather Service.

Other Weather All programs (including indoor): tornado warning isin effect in DuPage or surrounding county. WDSRAwill use discretion for all other weather warnings andwatches.

Online registration is the preferred method. It offers youthe most up-to-date information on your programs, andupon completion you will instantly know yourregistration status.

Virtual Program Registration For Fall 202o Virtual programs registration will be firstcome first served for both resident and non-residents. 

In-Person Program Lottery RegistrationIn this process all In-Person program registrations willbe assigned once WDSRA "spins" the lottery, whichrandomly assigns enrollments to the programs you haveregistered for. The lottery will be spun for Residents firstfollowed by Non-Residents. If the program has met themaximum number of participants, those who were notenrolled in the program will be added to a wait list. If youare placed on a wait list and WDSRA can accommodateyou safely, you will be enrolled in the program.

If the withdrawal request is received prior to 10business days you will receive a refund minus$5.00 drop fee, any pre purchased supplies andnon-refundable deposits.Refund will not be given if the request is receivedless than 10 business days prior to the start.Refunds will not be issued for missed classes.Cancellations for weekly programs will berescheduled or a refund will be issued. SpecialOlympics weather refunds will be issued formissed games but not missed practices.A house credit will be issued for refunds $10 orless.Any variance to the refund procedures will beincluded in the program description.All refunds will be issued in check form.

Program Policies, ContinuedIf a program closes due to large enrollment, a paidwaiting list of those interested will be kept. If spacedoes not open in the program, your payment will beautomatically refunded.A class may be cancelled if enrollment is less thanfour participants for children’s programs and fiveparticipants for adult programs, unless otherwisenoted.

WDSRA requires a minimum of 3 participants at apick-up location. Transportation will be cancelled ifthe minimum is not met. You will be notified if thisoccurs for any program. If parents wish for their sonor daughter to walk home from a program, pleasesend a signed and dated notice attached to the registration form, or mail the writtennotification to the WDSRA office prior to the first dayof the program.

If a participant cannot attend a program during thesession, he/she cannot send a substitute in his/herplace.

Refund Procedure Refund requests for all programs must be received noless than 10 business days prior to the start of theprogram.

Out of District Policies Families living outside a WDSRA Park District memberdistrict and belong to a neighboring SRA are welcome toregister in WDSRA programs during the out of districtregistration time frame. This would apply to NEDSRA,FVSRA, NWSRA, and SEASPAR residents.

If you live within a community with a Park District thatdoes not belong to a Special Recreation Association a 50%fee will be assessed per program.

If you live in a community without a Park District or in anunincorporated area that falls outside of the Park Districtboundaries, a 50% fee will be assessed per program. Anexample of this would be Wayne residents and some partsof West Chicago.

Program Policies When arriving at/departing from a program, parents areasked to check in with the staff person in charge of theprogram before leaving your child. WDSRA staff are notresponsible for supervision of participants who arriveprior to the start of the program. Also, if a participant is tobe picked up by an unfamiliar guardian, neighbor,babysitter, etc. the parents are asked to notify the WDSRAstaff person in charge of the program prior to the occurrence.

To provide for safe and meaningful learning experiences,a 1:3 staff-to-participant ratio is maintained forchildren’s activities, a 1:4 ratio for teen activities, and a1:6 ratio is maintained for adult activities. Some programsmay have a higher ratio, depending on individual needs.When children of various ability/age levels are enrolled inthe same program, WDSRA will group them according totheir abilities.

WDSRA Annual ScholarshipsThe scholarship request process is intended toallow participants/families who qualify for financialassistance to take part in recreation and leisureopportunities through the use of available funds.All funds for scholarships are obtained throughthe WDSRA Foundation’s annual fundraisingcampaigns. Each year the amount availablefluctuates based on the amounts received.

Scholarships are only available for residents of theassociation’s nine member park districts.Scholarships are awarded to participants who havecompleted the annual scholarship application andqualify for financial need. Applications are acceptedanytime during the year but all applications expire onDecember 31. Fifty percent of the program fee forthree (3) programs per season may be awarded.Payment plans may be arranged if needed. For morespecific guidelines regarding scholarships, pleasevisit our website at www.wdsra.com and go to thelinks tab for WDSRA forms or contact the WDSRAoffice.

Reaching WDSRA Staff on the WeekendsWDSRA continues to have an Emergency CallForwarding Feature on our phone system for thebenefit of parents and staff. If you have anemergency on the weekend, you can call the WDSRAoffice, 630-681-0962 and listen to the prompt to dial9 to be forwarded to a staff member on call. If staffare busy, your call will go to a voicemail system toleave a message and you can expect a call back, ifnecessary, within 15 minutes. Please leave your nameand telephone number as it does not show up on ourcaller ID.

If your issue is not an emergency, please call theoffice Monday–Friday between the hours of 9 am-5 pm.

Late Pick-Up PolicyIn order to be fair to our participants and programleaders, WDSRA has enacted a late pick-up policy and wewould appreciate your cooperation in this matter. Many ofour programs have more than one pick-up location and ifone person is late, it may disturb the schedule of otherswho are being picked up at another location. In addition,many of the WDSRA program leaders haveresponsibilities after everyone is picked up. We requestthat you double-check the pick-up time and be prompt.

Dietary RestrictionsDue to the amount and various types of dietaryneeds, WDSRA will only provide an alternativeoption for meals when the program is preparing/making their own food, If the program is attendinga special event or eating at a restaurant in thecommunity, the family must look ahead at themenu and relay the participant’s order to the headinstructor upon arrival.

You may be asked to send or make appropriateaccommodations for your participant on occasion.

Office HoursWDSRA’s regular office hours are 9 am to 5 pm,Monday through Friday. After hours and on theweekends, please leave a voice mail message. Staffwill return your call as soon as possible.

Participants must be able to independently provide self-care such as bathroom needs, handwashing, eating,personal hygiene, and dressing.Participants must be able to maintain physical distance expectations with verbal reminders.Participants will need to be able to refrain from physically aggressive behaviors such as biting, spitting,scratching, hitting, kicking etc. or behaviors that require direct or close proximity intervention from staff.Participants must be able to independently put on and wear a face covering when directed for the duration ofthe program or when needed.Participants must be able to stay in safe proximity to the group and refrain from elopement or wandering.Participants must be able to respond to verbal prompts and lack the need for hand-over hand instruction.Participants must be able to be responsible for their personal items with verbal prompts and reminders.

Participant Eligibility

If a participant is unable to meet the following expectations, he/she may be unable to participate at this time inaccordance with current federal, state, and local mandates and guidelines. We expect guidelines to become lessrestrictive as Illinois passes through each Restore Phase. Staff will consistently evaluate participant progress inmeeting these criteria on a weekly basis and communicate any concerns with parents.

Has the participant experienced a fever of 100.4 or greater in the last 24 hours?Does the participant have a cough, sore throat or difficulty breathing?Has the participant experienced muscle aches, headache or chills?Has the participant lost sense of smell or taste?Has the participant tested positive or been exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID within the past14 days?

Screening Protocol

Prior to admittance to the program area parents/guardians/participants must complete a brief health screeningquestionnaire. A paper form with screening questions, name and date must be completed for each participantprior to drop off.

Following is a list of questions included on the health screening questionnaire form:

If the answer to any of the questions is “yes”, the participant will be asked to leave and not return until cleared bya medical professional.
