Here you'll find everything you need to know about using supplements for the B4 Be Gone
program. From time to time, product availability changes. Please notify us if there are any

About Using Supplements
For all supplements I recommend you buy the purest you can find. In terms of availability to
your body, liquids are better than powders which are better than capsules which are better
than tablets.
Liquids → Powders → Capsules → Tablets
Most Desirable → Least Desirable
Some nutrients are not available as liquids or powders either because of the taste or because
they are too delicate and need the protection of a capsule. Tablets usually contain fillers and
binders to hold the materials together and are the least desirable.
A note about the suggested brands:
The brands and items named in this guide are not an exhaustive list. The brands I’ve listed
are those I’ve used in the past and from manufacturers I trust. That does not mean they are
the only brands that work. This is also not an exhaustive list of helpful supplements. These
are the ones that tend to most rapidly restore the sensitivity of your insulin receptors.

The Core Four Supplements Recommended for All:

Order the top 3 supplements as soon as possible (the 4th is optional) and begin following the
recommended dosages unless otherwise directed. All are going to be effective any time, but
the BEST time to take these top supplements is with meals. (Warning: do not take
vandyl sulfate at the same time of day as chromium)

Chromium Polynicotinate
Dose: Usually comes as 200 mcg per capsule. You’ll need a total of 800 mcg per day for a
minimum of 30 days – especially during the metabolic reset phase of B4 Be Gone. It’s best
to start chromium before the metabolic reset to help improve insulin sensitivity, glucose
uptake, and carbohydrate cravings. Assuming you purchase capsules of 200 mcg, you’ll need
at least 120 capsules for the 30-day period (4 capsules per day), plus enough capsules to
cover the period of time before the metabolic reset.
Chromium supplementation tends to improve carbohydrate cravings and your ability to space
meals more favorably. Most people benefit by starting on chromium right away during the
“Getting Started” phase of B4 Be Gone and continuing for at least a month after the metabolic
reset ends. The duration for which you’ll take chromium is determined by your degree of
insulin resistance and excess fat, and you’ll be instructed on how to know if you need to
continue during the “Stepping into Your Future” module. If you have already been diagnosed
with diabetes, you might be taking chromium for years or for the rest of your life.
For best results, you may wish to have enough Chromium Polynicotinate on hand for
approximately 3 months.
Best time to take: Take with meals. Participants had best results when they took at least
one 200 mcg capsule with each meal (assuming you eat 3 meals) with a double dose at one
of the meals or the fourth dose at bedtime. If you miss any, it's okay to take missed doses
later (even if you have to take 800 mcg at bedtime).
This particular form of chromium has been shown to be most effective at restoring insulin
sensitivity. It’s not that easy to find. You might find chromium picolinate, but Polynicotinate
has been shown in many studies to be more effective, so get it if you can. Chromium
polynicotinate is a combination of chromium and niacin, aka nicotinic acid. If the
polynicotinate form is not available, add 100 mg niacin to each 200 mcg of a different form of
chromium for similar effects.

Some studies in rats suggest that picolinate may cause cancer; however, the doses used
appear to be 50 or more times the usual human dose. Other studies suggest that the
picolinate form is not as effective at reducing cravings and facilitating weight loss. If you are
taking oral diabetes medication, be sure to monitor your glucose levels carefully when you
start the chromium supplementation as you may notice a rapid decline in blood glucose. If
you take synthroid, be sure to take it at least 30 minutes before chromium, as chromium may
reduce absorption of synthroid.

Dose: You’ll need about 350 – 500 mg per day for each 30 days.
Best time to take: This dose can be taken all at once, preferably at a meal that includes fat.
This omega 3 fat plays an important role in improving insulin resistance. Sources are fish oil
or algae oil. I prefer the algae oil.

Magnesium Citrate or Glycinate
Magnesium is important for the transport of insulin into cell membranes. Magnesium
supplements are readily available locally and online.
Dose: Start with 400 mg per day for 30 days.
Best time to take: Take with a meal.
If you have a tendency towards loose stools or irritable bowel, best to go with the Glycinate or
half-and-half. You can also divide your dose and do twice or three times a day. If you’re
already taking a magnesium supplement as part of another formula, you can still start at the
same dose and decrease if it causes your stools to get loose. Some people can take up to
several thousand mg without harmful effect.
After a couple days at 400 mg if your bowels have not become loose, add a second dose of
400 mg. If your bowels become loose with that, try reducing the second dose to 200
mg. See “Magnesium Dosage Guidelines” in Module 2 for details on how to determine your
optimum dose.

Vanadyl Sulfate (Optional)
Dose: Look for 50 mg capsules. Take 50 mg twice a day, only for 4 weeks.
Best time to take: With any meal. (Warning: do not take at the same time of day as
chromium)
This works by inhibiting a neuropeptide in your hypothalamus that is related to appetite, thus
decreasing appetite. It also increases the feeling of satiety by increasing leptin secretion in
adipose tissue and increases the uptake of insulin by muscle and liver cells.
Long-term use of Vanadyl Sulfate may result in high blood pressure; therefore, it is
recommended only for short-term use, and not as a first line approach. Use if you have
had a glucose problem for a long time, have been diagnosed with diabetes or insulin
resistance, or if you’ve already been taking the other supplements recommended for a month
or longer. Take Vanadyl Sulfate for only one month.
Tip: It's a good idea to mark on your calendar the day you begin taking Vanadyl Sulfate and
mark your completion date for 4 weeks later.

Preliminary and double-blind trials have found that supplementing 600 - 1 200 mg of alpha

Carnitine is suspected to stabilize blood sugar as a result of removing excess fat from the

EPA
Dose: Doses of EPA vary greatly from brand to brand. Take anywhere from 200 – 1000 mg
or more for chronic inflammation or autoimmune conditions. The only way to really know is to
test. In cases of chronic pain and inflammation, determine the dose by monitoring
symptoms. A starting does that could be good for many people would be 350 mg or so.
EPA is a long chain omega-3 fat that aids in managing inflammation, hormone balance, and
neurotransmitter support.

Niacin
Dose range: 30 - 100 mg per day.
Some studies show a significant improvement in Type 1 diabetes when supplemented with
niacin. It’s been shown to improve blood lipids -- lipid abnormalities (cholesterol, LDL, HDL,
triglycerides) are associated with long term blood sugar imbalance.
Caution: Niacin can sometimes raise blood sugar, so proceed with caution. If you have
elevated cholesterol or other blood lipid abnormalities and you’re on niacin or considering
taking it, be sure to carefully test your blood glucose.

Nopal Cactus
Dose: 2 capsules per meal.
This helps to nutritionally support pancreatic, insulin, and blood sugar functions; and
contributes to healthy cholesterol; enhanced bowel function/removal of bowel toxicity; immune
system function; and the timed-release of nutrients.
Nopal Cactus (opuntia streptacantha species) has been used for thousands of years by
Mexican natives as a food and for enhanced health and vitality. HealthForce Nutritionals
Nopal is the authentic Opuntia Streptacantha species. Other species of Nopal and Prickly
Pear Cactus are very nutritious and good for you, but do not have the effects of Opuntia

Dose: Take 1 tablet per day.
Protandim has been shown to increase the activity of the 3 enzymes SOD, Catalase, and
Glutathione peroxidase, thus improving inflammatory conditions and allowing glucose
regulation, hormones, and many other systems to heal.
About Protandim: Anti-oxidant / Anti-inflammatory Support (video): To stay alive, your body

Selenium
Dose: Take 200 mcg per day (or eat 2 Brazil nuts).
Selenium supports thyroid health. When your thyroid is not performing adequately, blood
glucose gets out of control.
Selenium has been shown to mimic insulin to lower blood glucose by mimicking insulin,
However, in excess, selenium can cause elevated blood glucose levels, so proceed with
caution in supplementation. The safest way to supplement is by eating 2 - 4 Brazil nuts daily.

Vitamin B Complex

Deficiency of B vitamins can contribute to blood sugar imbalance.

Vitamin B6 as pyridoxal 5 phosphate
Dose: Take 25 mg twice a day.
This vitamin is especially important for people with diabetes as many people with diabetes,
especially those with nerve damage, have low blood levels of vitamin B6.
Vitamin B6 supplementation has been shown to improve glucose tolerance in those with
diabetes, women with diabetes of pregnancy (aka gestational diabetes), and in women taking
birth control pills.
It is readily available at most health food stores.
Consider supplementing if you have adrenal fatigue, thyroid imbalance or reproductive
hormone imbalances like PMS and menopause symptoms.

Vitamin B12
Dose range: 1000 mcg - 5000 mcg. Preferred form is sublingual liquid or lozenge. Patches
can be great; however, many include the synthetic form of folic acid, which is not
recommended.
Vitamin B12 is an important nutrient for maintaining proper nervous system function as well
as creating sustained energy and mental clarity, optimizing the digestion and absorption of
foods, protein synthesis, and anemia prevention.
Methylcobalamin or Methyl B12 is a form of vitamin B12 that is considered to be more
absorbable and effectively utilized than other forms of B12. Adequate levels of Methyl B12 are
needed to protect nerve tissue and maintain the myelin sheaths that cover the nerve endings.
By helping to metabolize fats and carbohydrates, vitamin B12 aids cell formulation and
longevity. Vitamin B-12 promotes development of healthy red blood cells and maintenance of
nerve tissue. Adequate levels of this vitamin is important for the creation of glutathione and to
assist the body in detoxification.
New Beginnings Nutritionals has formulated a new product called Methyl-Mate which provides
an ultra concentrated (1 ml 5000 mcg) form of methylcobalamine which contains no flavorings

Chlorella Powder (or tablets/capsules)
Look for any brand that has no binders or fillers. In particular, chlorella will help you to handle
carb cravings in between meals. Powder can be added to green drinks or chia drinks, but be
warned that chlorella is “strange” tasting if you’re new to it. If taste is an issue, you may
prefer to consume tablets, in which case, I recommend a handful of tablets each day.
