HIT THE SPLOPES!!

After an extreme makeover lasting more than two decades, Barcelona has transformeditself into one of the most dynamic and stylish cities around the world. In a privilegedposition on the northeastern coast of the Iberian peninsula and bordering the Pyrenees,Barcelona, capital of Catalonia, is the second largest city in Spain in both size andpopulation and it is unequivocally a Mediterranean city, not only because of geographiclocation, but also because of its history, tradition and cultural influences.

Barcelona’s climate offers cool winters and hot summers…even though it has its down-sides, everyone of us is enjoying the surprisingly pleasant temperatures this winter. Forsnow lovers, Catalonia offers great slopes and excellent skiing resorts close toBarcelona in the Pyrenees, which are great for 1-3 day trips at affordable prices. Wewill introduce you two of them: La Molina and Vall de Nuria.

Slightly further away, in Andorra, you can find the grand snow capital of the Pyrenees:Grandvalira; with 193 km of ski slopes of all levels, it is one of the biggest and mostlegendary ski resort, with spectacular landscapes and panoramic views.

LA MOLINA: Surrounded by mountains of 2500 meters, it is the nearest ski resort toBarcelona and probably the oldest. There is a total of 42 slopes and 16 lifts.You can catch a train from the Sants station, the tickets costs ?32,25 low season,?35,80 high season. VALL DE NURIA: With 11 slopes and 4 lifts, this place is ideal for a day trip and it ishighly recommended for beginners. Accessable from Sants station, getting of in Ribesde Freser and then continue with the rack rail to Vall de Nuria. It costs ?26.60 low sea-son and ?29,50 high season. GRANVALIRA, ANDORRA: Situated to the north of the Andorran Principality, along theborder with France, it is worth it spending at least a weekend at this legendary skiresort. A one day access to the whole resort costs ?35 high season and ?33,50 lowseason. There are many alternatives to get there. You can go by car along the CarreteraGeneral 2, aka the “the road to France”. The road conditions can be checked atwww.mibilitat.ad, also you can phone the information line, Tel: (+376) 18021802. Awidely used form of transport to get to Andorra is by coach, from Barcelona and El Pratairport there are several daily departures with Nadal-Eurolines www.eurolines.com.Leaving from Sants station you can also use the train, it will take you to Puigcerda,from there you would continue your journey by bus.
