BRIDGES | Episcopal Campus Ministry at BGSU We’re about to begin our third academic year of collaborative campus ministry with St. John’s, Bowling Green. Give thought and prayer to joining our team that reaches out to provide “family” to the students on campus. A large number of “our” participants are graduate students, last year coming from eight countries outside the US. Specific ministries with which you can engage: New Student Move-in Day, Thursday, August 22 | providing a warm greeting, bottled (iced) water, home-made cookies (and fruit), and a bit of information to those queued up in the mile-long line to unload students and“most of their earthly belongings” into new dorm homes. We are on duty from 9:00 am ‘til 3:oo pm and welcome all helpers! Cooks | We’ve become crock pot and casserole professionals! (Mostly) St. Tim’s provides home-cooked supper for 10 25 persons, team and students, every Thursday that classes are in session. Generally themed each week (think, ‘Italian’, ‘Asian’, etc.), food can be dropped at St. Tim’s by 5:oo pm for transport to BG (better yet, come along for the ride and enjoy our students!) Servers | If there’s food, there’s set-up and clean-up, a burden made light when many hands share the labor. Pray-ers | Most Thursdays we offer chanted Compline at 7:00 pm (please note time change, this year). Ryan Ebright coordinates a Compline Choir. It is wonderful to share the mystical spirituality of chanted compline with any and all who choose to come pray (and chant) with us! FYI, first Thursdays of the month, Compline is replaced with a celebration of the eucharist. Bible Study facilitators | First Thurs- days, we entertain brief Bible study at 7:30 pm. Round Table Discussion | Join us for discussions far-ranging in topic and cultural insights (after all, we often number 3 or more nationalities around the table), most Thursdays at 7:30 pm Contact Allison Fisher, Fr. Jeff, or Barry Cox for more information! Super Senior Fitness at St. Tim's Part of the SilverSneakers FLEX classes, licensed fitness instructor, Sheila Brown, will guide participants through back-to-back classes in the parish hall on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, beginning August 6 (back- to-back sessions; sessions "Silver Sneaker" eligible). · 9:30-10:15 am Cardio and Strength: Intermediate exercise class for the active older adult. Low impact cardio movements will raise the heart rate, while light resistance equipment will be used to strengthen the muscles. No exercise will require you to get on or off of the floor. Please bring a light set of handweights either one, two or three pounds. If you do not have handweights, two water bottles will be provided for use which are approxi- mately one pound each. Please also bring a water bottle to stay hydrated during the class. · 10:25-11:10am Stretch & Tone: Low impact, dynamic movements and stretches are the foundation of this class. A chair will be utilized for approximately half of the exercises making it well suited for beginners. No exercise will require you to get on or off of the floor. Please bring a water bottle to stay hydrated during the class. cont. next page

LAY WORSHIP LEADERS In the Episcopal Church, although we are all authorized for ministry through our baptism, some ministries require ordination or licensing by the Diocese. The ordained ministers of the Church are deacons, priests, and bishops. The lay ministers of the church comprise both licensed and non-licensed ministers. Examples of ministers for whom no license is re-quired include musicians, lectors, ac-olytes, altar guild members, Sunday School teachers, ushers, wardens, and vestry members. The licensed ministries of the laity are Lay Preacher, Worship Leader, Eucharistic Minister, and Eucharistic Visitor. With very few retired (but available for supply) or bi-vocational clergy in this half of the Diocese of Ohio, congregations need licensed Worship Leaders to lead public worship on occasions that the parish clergy must be away (e.g., vacation, continuing education/conference service, illness). St. Tim’s stepped up recently to “refresh and renew” our corps of Worship Leaders – and several new laypersons have completed training.

Look for Judy Snyder, Barry Cox, Paula Davis, Joe Ferguson, and Dick Leichtamer to “try their wings,” leading Morning Prayer in the absence of our rector, or leading Morning Prayer, utilized as the ante-communion (liturgy of the word preceding the celebration of communion by Fr. Jeff) over the next months.

Patty Her-nandez from ABLE (advocates for basic legal equality) will give a presentation, "Immigration 101," and Helen Bare from St. John XXIII will

CLOTHESLINE EXTENDED OUTREACH Most of us are aware that Clothesline has little storage space, so out of season items (think swim suits in February) are usually passed along to the Salvation Army or another such operation, and we do not know exactly what the impact is. That’s not the case with winter coats, however. Each fall on October 16 in 2019, Project Connect Wood County provides a wide range of services to families and individuals who are considered to be in need. The services include medical screening, haircuts, job counseling, provision of documents like birth certificates, and the like. In addition, each man, woman, and child who is served gets to select a warm winter coat to help them get through the winter. The Fringe, a resale shop in Woodland Mall, is kind enough to stockpile donations of winter coats for Project Connect, so winter coats that are donated out of season to St. Tim’s Clothesline are delivered about once a week to the storage area. So if you have a winter coat that you no longer need, be assured that it will go to a worthy cause. If you can hold onto it until fall, it will go to a Clothesline cli-ent. If you don’t have room to keep it for a while, it will go to a Project Con-nect client. Either way; the impact is direct, local, and significant, and it’s just another way that Clothesline leverages your contributions. Thank you.

MOBILE CLOTHES NEEDS: AUGUST

The next mobile Clothesline distribution will be on Saturday, August 10. Needs for August are small boxes of detergent toothpaste shampoo deodorant soap Thank you so much for how much you have been supporting this extension of the Clothesline ministry. The recipients are very appreciative.

GUIDING PATHWAYS RESPITE CARE

By Paula Davis I never expected to laugh. Laughter was the last thing on my mind when I agreed to be a volunteer for a new respite program for people with dementia. Since March, St. Timothy’s has hosted “Guiding Pathways,” a program designed for those with early-to-moderate stage memory loss, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm on the first Wednesday of each month. A coordinator from the Wood County Committee on Aging organizes four hours of activities (and lunch!); Hope Jarvis and I assist (from St. Timothy’s), and a couple staff members from Kingston of Perrysburg and Arista Home Care Solutions also help out. Attendance varies, but our participants have included Tim* (NOTE: names have been changed to protect clients’ privacy), who remembers jumping from planes as a paratrooper as well as running a restaurant; Jackie, who loves

to count and sing; Mary, whose contagious laugh makes us all giggle, especially when we gather to hit a balloon back and forth with pool “noodles”; and quiet Terry, whose wry observations surprise us all when she speaks up and then grins. Everyone differs in skills and abilities. Some need help setting up their lunch-es, but can take it from there. Others ask for reassurance to pick the “right” colors for an art project (“what colors would you LIKE to use”…we may reply). Dementia progresses differently for each person, depending on the type, the person’s other health issues, and the course of each disease. What IS con-sistent, however, is that each of the participants we work with enjoys being in the moment, conversing (and being treated) as a sentient human being (albeit one with memory impairment), and accomplishing small tasks, whether it’s creating a simple craft or homemade dog biscuits for Bonnie Ferguson’s therapy dog, Duke, who visits each time. Our clients may not remember us from month to month, but I know our time together has made me appreciate life’s little moments, and the gifts that each of them offers. As caregivers return, they’re often surprised by how engaged their loved ones are in a task – and that we laugh and smile together. And that, in turn, can bring a smile to the caregiv-ers’ tired faces. Four hours of respite for them, four hours of socialization in a safe environment for their family members, and the realization that giv-ing four to five hours of our time can make the difference for them. Guiding Pathways is a cooperative effort/ministry of the Wood County Committee on Aging, Arista Homecare Solutions, and St. Timothy’s Church. Respite care is offered from 10:00 am ‘til 2:00 pm on the first Wednesday of each month. More information is avail-able from http://wccoa.net/

PERRYSBURG COALITION OF INCLUSION AND SOCIAL JUSTICE

Growing from last winter’s experience of hate crimes in our community, a group of Perrysburg residents (including several of our own members), committed to making a difference, began to meet together. The group sponsored an April 10 community forum at Hull Prairie Intermediate School, drawing 100+ residents. Since that time a core group of citizens (and several sub-committees) has continued to meet, developing this name and mission statement: The Perrysburg Coalition of Inclusion and Social Justice works to foster a sense of belonging among all Perrysburg residents. We create and support oppor-tunities for interaction, dialogue, and relationship-building through a variety of social and educational events throughout the Perrysburg community. We hope that residents will ask hard questions and form an open dialogue surrounding race relations. These efforts are our attempts to confront, address, and prevent instances of racism and bigotry. The Coalition hopes that through these events, our community will grow in compassion, understanding, and peace. The Coalition invites you to meet with neighbors at Rivercrest Park for an ice cream social – Sunday, August 18, 1-3:00 pm. Watch for future opportuni-ties on the Coalition’s FaceBook page.

DIOCESAN OPPORTUNITIES

Be l lwe t he r F a r m ' s Family Camp Bellwether Farm's Family Camp week-end retreat will give families the oppor-tunity to experience summer camp to-gether. Throughout the weekend, par-ents will get a taste of what campers experienced all summer, including camp songs, swimming, fishing, archery, ca-noeing, animal care, and more. Families will be able to harvest produce to take home while learning about how we em-ploy environmental stewardship in all aspects of our farm and camp. We would love for you to join us for this op-portunity for connection and respite with the ones you love most! Save the date: Family Camp will be held August 30-September 1. More information about registration details will be forth-coming.

Bishop's Bike Ride 2019 The Bishop's Bike Ride is back! This year, the ride will be a one-day event which will start and finish at Bellwether Farm on Saturday, August 31. The event will feature three different ride lengths to accommodate riders of all ages and abilities: a novice/family fun ride, an intermediate ride, and a longer ride for experienced riders. Each route will lead to a parish where volunteers will provide lunch. The riders will return to Bellweth-er Farm the same day for dinner, fellowship, and fun. The event will be held during the Family Camping Week-end over Labor Day weekend at Bellwether Farm. Overnight accommo-dations will be available on Friday and Saturday evenings. More to come later.

Convention Nominations Nominations must be submitted by September 13 for inclusion in the Convention Handbook. The positions that will be filled at Convention include: Diocesan Trustee, Diocesan Council, Standing Committee, Diocesan Discipli-nary Board, ECS Development Council, and General Convention Deputy. A full list of Convention deadlines can be found on the diocesan website.

Ministry Discernment Day Ministry Discernment Day will be held on Saturday, October 12 from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm at St. Paul's, Cleveland Heights. Lunch will be provided. Registration is open until October 4. This is a mandatory meeting for both you and your rector or senior warden if you are considering entering the ordination pro-cess for either the priesthood or the di-aconate. In addition, individuals interest-ed in the opportunity to consider differ-ent models of lay ministry or in the dis-cernment process in general are encour-aged to attend. If you have questions or need more information contact the Rev. Percy Grant at 216.774.0455 or [email protected] or contact Betty Kondrich at 216.774.0466 or [email protected].

From here and there…

Emma Floyd has accepted a position at Toledo Christian School. She will be teaching a Pre/K class of 14 four year olds, beginning August 9. One of the challenges she faces is the financial re-imbursement. TCS salaries are not com-mensurate with those found in a public school. She will need to find a place to rent and someone with whom to share housing. Our prayers of thanksgiving (and any “leads”) are encouraged!

Coming In August

Community Ministry Partner Perrysburg Musical Theatre

SUMMER CAMP St. Timothy’s Parish Hall will once again be filled with the sound and life of PMT’s Broadway Beginner’s Camp – July 29 through August 2 (with the camp Finale production on August 3).

FALL SHOW AUDITIONS Close on camp’s heels will be auditions for PMT’s fall production, Disenchanted! – a new musical comedy featuring an all-women’s cast. GENERAL AUDITIONS will be by appointment only - Tuesday, August 27, 2019 from 7-9:00 pm; and Wednesday, August 28, 2019 from 7-9:00 pm. More information is available at perrysburgmusicaltheatre.org

TENTH YEAR CELEBRATION In 2009, while returning from a musical rehearsal in Michigan, Katie Sanderson commented to her mother Carrie, "Mom, how come we have to drive to Michigan to be in a show?" It was from this simple question that the idea for PMT was born. Within months, Carrie Sanderson contacted Pemberville-native and professional actor Jody Madaras; enlisting his assistance. A series of meetings were scheduled, including a public forum meeting, and a word-of-mouth effort led to the formation of PMT. St. Tim’s will be the site for PMT’s Tenth Anniversary Celebration on Sept 7 – including a benefit dinner and revue, featuring numbers from each of the shows produced over the past ten years. Watch PMT’s website for more information!
