EXTENSION ACTIVITIES

(June 2019 to May 2020)

DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY MEDICINE COVID-19 awareness program was organized in the village Ukkali, Donur and Hegadihal on

20th June 2020 in collaboration with the Social & Industry Connect Committee. Hon’ble Vice

Chancellor Dr. M.S.Biradar and The Principal Dr. Aravind Patil interacted with the village

Panchyat to create awareness regarding COVID-19 & distributed masks, Sanitizer & COVID19

awareness pamphlets to the ASHAs, Anganwadi workers and villagers.

Health Education on COVID 19 was conducted at Rural Health Training Centre, Ukkali, on

27-04-2020. Participants got information about COVID19 mode of spread and its prevention.

Also given answers to the doubts regarding COVID-19. Faculty involved were Dr.Praveen,G.

Assoc Prof./MOH, RHTC Ukkali, Dr.Santosh.Patil, Asst Prof, Mr.Sanjeev.Khanagoudra-

MSW, & Interns No. of Beneficiaries were 12. The entire program was organized under

guidance of Dr. Shailaja Patil, Prof. & HOD of Community Medicine.

The Health Education on ‘Prevention of Diarrhoea’ was organized on the occasion of

Intensified Diarrhea Control Fortnight 2019 by the Department of Community Medicine, on

11th June 2019, at Rural Health Training Centre, Ukkali, health education was given to the

female residents of Ukkali village.

‘Tubectomy Camp’ was organized at Rural Health Training Centre, Ukkali, on 12.06.2019, in

collaboration with Dept. of OBG & Dept. of Anaesthesia.

Organized Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) screening camp & Dental checkup camp at

Rural Health Training Centre, Ukkali, (the village is enrolled under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan)

on 24th June, 2019, Panchayat members & other leaders of the village helped us to organize the

camp at RHTC Ukkali. Total 83 patients got the benefits of screening among the total patients

Hypertension-16, Diabetes Mellitus-10, Dental- 5, Tobacco Chewing – 12 and free drugs were

distributed by RHTC Ukkali.

A Screening Camp was organized for “Diabetes & Hypertension” at Govt. Urdu

Primary School Beedi galli, in the field practice area of Urban Health Training Centre,

Chandabowdi, Vijayapura, in collaboration with Govt. UHC, Darga, on 25.06.2019,

Free Health Check-up was done Dr. Rajashekhar Reddy & Dr.Parvalika P. PGs from

Department of Medicine checked the patients. Around 53 beneficiaries attended the camp and

free drugs were distributed. Those found Diabetic & Hypertensive were referred to the

BLDE hospital for further management.

“Doctors Day” was celebrated on 01.07.2019, by the faculty of Department of Community

Medicine at UHTC Chandabowdi followed by address to the young budding doctors (interns)

regarding community oriented health care service by Dr.Shailaja S. Patil Prof. & HOD of

Community Medicine.

On the Occasion of “World Population Day - 2019” Health Education Programme was

organized at S.S. PU College, Vijayapura, by Urban Health Training Centre, Chandabowdi, on

11th July 2019. “World Population Day” & its significance, issues related to population was

explained in detail & also information regarding Reproductive Health & Gender Equality, Dr.

Laxmi Tellur, Tutor. Mr. Dilip Doddihal, Health Educator, spoke. Interns prepared posters &

presented. A Total of 122 students were present.

‘Tubectomy Camp’ was organized at Rural Health Training Centre, Ukkali, on 11/07/2019, in

collaboration with Dept. of OBG & Dept. of Anaesthesia .They were assisted by the nursing

staff and interns from the Dept. of Community Medicine. Total of 5 (five) beneficiaries were

residents of Ukkali,.

‘Cataract Camp’ was conducted at Rural Health Training Centre, Ukkali, on 17/07/2019. Total

of 13 patients registered for the camp. Screening of the Cataract & others problems were dealt

during the camp. The camp was organized and supervised by Dr.Praveen Ganganahalli,

Associate Professor, Dr. S.R. Mudanur, Medical Officer, RHTC Ukkali, Dr. Shruti, PG.

Department of Ophthalmology and Staff of RHTC Ukkali, and Interns participated in the camp.

Urban Health Training centre Chandabowdi participated in ‘National Active Case Finding

(ACF) programme’ under RNTCP along with Interns in collaboration with District Health

authority i.e., Urban PHC Darga on 25th & 26th July 2019. Dr. Laxmi Tellur, Tutor, coordinated

the programme.

On the occasion of ‘World Breastfeeding Week’ August 1-7, Breastfeeding week was observed

on 7/8/19 at Janvekar Galli, Urban Health Training Centre, Chandabawdi. Theme was

“Empower parents, enable breastfeeding: Now and for the future”. Health education about the

importance of breast feeding was given by Dr Lalitha V T, LMO and effects of harmful feeding

was given by Mr.Dilip Doddihal, HEO. Discussion was carried out about few doubts,

misconceptions regarding breast feeding by interns. Beneficiaries were 20-25 in number and

were ANC, PNC and breasting feeding mothers of Janvekar Galli. Mr.C. C. Marshanahalli,

MSW, Mr.Y. B. Biradar, MSW, interns & other staff of UHTC participated.

On the Occasion of “National Nutrition Day”, ‘Poshan Maah Abhiyan’, at S.C.Colony, Ukkali

Rural Health Training Centre, Ukkali, “organized Celebration of Nutrition week on 26.09.2019

Total 18 Pregnant women, Mothers and Anganwadi children attended the program.

On the occasion of ‘National Nutrition Week’, Nutrition Day Celebration was observed by

RHTC Ukkali on 27.09.2019, at Mallayya Tempale,Ukkali as “Food Festival Programme”

along with Shri.Kshatra Manjunath Grameenabivrudi Samsthe (R) Dharmastalla for the

members of Self help groups .Total 42 in members attended the programme.

On the occasion of National Nutrition Week, Nutrition Day Celebration was observed by

UHTC Chandabawdi, on 27.09.2019, in Myady School, Vijayapura. In this programme Dr

Laxmi Tellur spoke about the importance of nutrition day and its theme- Creating awareness

about importance of balance diet and tips for health and well being. Focusing on maternal

& child nutrition, utilization of locally available nutritious food which helps in fetal

development for ANC mothers. No. of Beneficiaries 41.

Department of Community Medicine, RHTC Ukkali organized Free Diabetic, Hypertension,

Dental and General Health checkup camp at Village Ukamanal in coordination with Karnataka

State Akkamahadevi Mahila Vishwavidyala, Department of Social Work, Vijayapura, on

13.11.2019,. Local people like Panchayat members & other leaders of the village helped us to

organize the camp at Gram Panchayat, Ukamanal. Total of 148 patients attended the camp

Eye Camp’ was conducted at Rural Health Training Centre, Ukkali Collaboration with

Ophthalmology, on 20.11.2019. Total of 18 patients were screened for cataract out of which

5 patients were referred to BLDE Hospital, Vijayapur for Cataract Surgery.

‘World AIDS day”, HIV awareness programme was organized at BLDEA’s, PU College,

Ukkali, on 06-12-2019, by Rural Health Training Centre, Ukkali.

Dr.S.R.Mudanur, MO of RHTC Ukkali, chaired the programme. Smt.Kala Umarani ICTC

counselor, Taluka hospital Basavana Bagewadi was the resource person. She talked in detail

regarding HIV transmission, prevention, stigma and discrimination in Community. A total of

68 students attended the program.

School Immunization Programme conducted by Govt. PHC, & staff of RHTC Ukkali, at

Government Kannada Boy’s Primary School, Ukkali, in the programme 5th standard students

were immunized for TD (Tetanus, Diphtheria) vaccine, on 17.12.2019. A total of 62 students

attended the program.

A Screening Camp was organized for “Diabetes & Hypertension” Alvi Masjid,

Mulawad Galli, in the field practice area of Urban Health Training Centre, Chandabowdi,

Vijayapura, in collaboration with Govt. UHC, Darga, on 27.12.2019. Around 92

beneficiaries attended the camp and free drugs were distributed among them. Those found

Diabetic & Hypertensive were referred to the BLDE hospital for further management.

“National Flourosis Day” celebration was organized by the Department of Community

Medicine & Rural Health Training Centre, Ukkali, on 29.01.2020. A health educational

programme on “ Prevention and Control of Flourosis was conducted at BLDEA’s , New

English High School, Ukkali. Around 292 students attended this programme.

‘Eye Camp’ was conducted at Rural Health Training Centre, Ukkali in collaboration with Dept.

Of. Ophthalmology, on 08.01.2020. Total of 14 patients were screened for Cataract.

On 23.07.2019 DDRC organized free distribution of Aids & Appliances for Persons with

Disabilities (PWDs). The function was presided by Medical Supdt. Dr Vijaykumar

Kalyanappgol, Asst. Medical Supdt. Dr V G Warad, BLDE (DU) ShriB M Patil Medical

College, Hospital & Research Centre, DDRC Nodal Officer Dr. M C Yadavannavar.

On this occasion 16 MR Kits were distributed to Manasu Special School for Mentally

retarded children Gyangbowdi, 2 Cerebral palsy chair, one pair of axillary crutches and one

tricycle for the beneficiaries. These Aids & Appliances were sponsored by Red Cross Society

Vijayapur.

On 06.09.2019 DDRC organized free distribution of Aids & Appliances for Persons With

Disabilities (PWDs) with the financial aid from Municipal corporation of Vijayapur and

distribution of motorized tricycles to PWDs of Babaleshwar constituency under Grant in aid

from Dr. M. B. Patil, MLA Babaleshwar constituency.

NSS Unit of BLDE (Deemed to be University) organized 63rd “Kannada Rajyotsava” on 1st

November, 2019, on the occasion floral tribute to Nadadevi and a ceremonial function was

conducted in the University.

Voluntary blood donation by undergraduate students organized by NSS and BLOOD BANK

to the needy Thalassemic children.

The literary committee along with NSS & Youth Red Cross jointly organised MC test for

Undergraduate, Interns and Postgraduate students in HIV & AIDS. The test was organised on

Medical College, Hospital & Research Centre on December 29, 2019. The Cycling Rally was

arranged from Golgumbaz to University Campus.

On the occasion of ‘World Diabetes Day’ Public Interaction on Control Diabetes, Prevent

Complications and Family Role was conducted by Dr. S. S. Devarmani, Professor of Medicine

on November 14, 2019.
