There will be a public horse logging demonstration and informational talks on Saturday, November 3rd, beginning at 9 AM. The presentations will range in topic from a talk about Berea College's first forester, Silas Mason, to the care of Suffolk Punches, a rare breed of horse used in forestry. The day will end with a multi-generational conversation about biological woodsmanship with author, Wendell Berry. On October 18th at 6:00 PM the FOCwill host our second documentarydialogue of the semester. This month thedocumentary will be "Wasted! The Storyof Food Waste". We encourage you tobring unwanted can goods that will bedonated to a local food bank. These willbe donated to a local food bank.

Come join the FOC for a Night Hike andsee the forest in a new way! On October27th, at 6:30 we will be hosting a guidedhike and presentations about bats, owlsand other creepy and crawly residents ofthe forest, and offering some tasty treats!Hope to see you there!

Night Hike!

This month the Berea College wasfortunate enough to host the KentuckyAssociation for Environmental Education'sannual conference. A guided hike toEagle's Nest increased awareness of theFOC and the conference allowed our staffand student workers to learn differentmethods for providing environmentaleducation.

The rain didn't dampen the spirits of themany students who joined us for our"Welcome Back Students" hike. We hadover 20 students join us for our hike toEast Pinnacle and hope to see many ofthem on future hikes as well. Our firstBird Walk was also a success withmany people joining us to see and hearour feathered forest residents. Guidedhikes leave the FOC at 1 PM onSaturdays and Sundays. Hope youcan join us on future hikes!
