EDITOR’S NOTE The year 2013 was indeed an eventful year for IOI Group and it drew to a perfect end when the Group achieved 100% RSPO certification for all its palm oil mills and estates in Malaysia. It is also gearing towards achieving 100% ISCC certification for all its palm oil mills by beginning of 2014. Read more about its sustainability initiatives and achievement in our Cover Feature.

In line with IOI Group’s plans to expand its oil palm plantation business, the Group has successfully acquired Unico-Desa Plantation Berhad which increased its plantation landbank to more than 211,000 hectares. The acquisition brings synergistic benefits to the Group as the new estates are close to its existing estates in Sabah.

As announced in May 2013, IOI Properties Group Berhad will relist on the Main Board of Bursa Malaysia on 15 January 2014. The Group has also undertaken an internal restructuring to streamline its plantation and resource-based manufacturing businesses.

These corporate exercises will provide a platform for the respective entities to pursue different growth and business strategies. It will also give greater visibility on the separate performance of the companies’ businesses and allow it to gain more recognition. In this year-end issue, we have recapped IOI Group’s significant events and achievements in 2013 on page 29.

This year, Putrajaya Marriott Hotel & Spa made another record at the MIGF 2013. It bagged seven awards at this region’s premier fine food event! In conjunction with this Christmas season, various charity initiatives had been organised by our hotels and IOI Malls to bring joy and love to underprivileged groups. Find out more about these activities in their respective sections.

Lastly, join Master Chef Martin Yan and his guests in the MPOC’s palm oil culinary show “Back to Basics”, which promotes the advantages of cooking with palm oil. IOI’s Sagil Estate is featured in four episodes of this one-of-its-kind culinary show. Be sure to tune in to Asian Food Channel at 9:30pm on every Monday, from 10 February till 3 March 2014.

As we bid adieu to 2013, let us ring in the New Year with love, peace, joy and happiness for all. May you and your loved ones enjoy good health, happiness and greater success in the year of Horse! Karen Liew

Group, a leading integrated palm oil player, reached a major milestone in its sustainability certification

endeavours by achieving 100% Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (“RSPO”) certification in all its mills and supply base estates in Malaysia. On 16 December 2013, Leepang Palm Oil Mill was RSPO-certified followed by Morisem Palm Oil Mill on 18 December 2013, leading to the successful attainment of total RSPO certification by all 12 palm oil mills and 86 estates.

IOI’s path to 100% RSPO certification began in 2004 when IOI became a founding member of the RSPO. Joining forces with the RSPO’s voluntary members that consist of producers, traders, manufacturers, retailers, bankers and investors, non-environmental and non-governmental organisations, IOI works to promote the production and use of sustainable palm oil in order to transform markets to make sustainable palm oil the norm.

With strict adherence to the RSPO Principles and Criteria, commitment to sustainable practices, constant evaluation, documentation and improvement of performance, IOI became one of the first palm oil companies to receive RSPO’s seal of approval when its Pamol Sabah Mill and supply base estates were RSPO-certified on 3 February 2008 leading to the accomplished goal of 100% RSPO certification by year 2013.

GOING FORWARD SUSTAINABLY

IOI’S JOURNEY TO SUSTAINABILITY IOI’s journey to sustainability is driven by the belief that the sustainability of its businesses is interdependent with the sustainability of the ecosystem surrounding its operations. Hence it undertakes responsible business practices that are oriented towards the protection of natural habitats, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and sustainable use of land.

To safeguard the environment, IOI adopts environmental-friendly practices that include zero burning, no cultivation of oil palms on gazetted forest land as well as primary forest, deep peat lands or on High Conservation Value areas.

Furthermore IOI also practises good management measures such as implementing integrated pest management practices that include introducing bird species like barn owls as rat control, planting beneficial plants as sources of nectar for parasitoids to keep the population of oil palm insect pests in balance with nature, growing leguminous species as cover crop to prevent soil erosion, enhance soil nutrient and improve soil water retention. To reduce greenhouse gas emissions, it also opts for buffaloes instead of machines to transport fresh fruit bunches (“FFB”).

IOI’s integrated pest management (includes planting beneficial plants such as Cassia Cobanesis and Tunera spp) and the phasing out of paraquat are biological ways to control pests in oil palm plantations.

GOING FORWARD SUSTAINABLY

In tandem with the RSPO certification, IOI is also actively pursuing notable sustainability certifications such as the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (“ISCC”) for its mills and estates. An initiative that distinguishes sustainable products from non-sustainable ones for customers, ISCC is the first international certification system that can be used to prove sustainability and greenhouse gas savings for all kinds of biomass and bioenergy.

Since Pamol Sabah Palm Oil Mill and Sakilan Mill were ISCC-certified on 30 December 2010, IOI has continued to progress responsibly and made great strides towards 100% ISCC certification. With Morisem Palm Oil Mill and its supply base receiving its ISCC nod on 14 October 2013, IOI is confident that the remaining Leepang Palm Oil Mill will be duly ISCC-certified soon.

IOI continued to push its sustainability standards further with the pursuit of the RSPO’s latest initiative – the European Commission-approved RSPO-RED (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil-Renewable Energy Directive) scheme. By undertaking measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and complying with strict no peatland plantings, IOI Mayvin Grouping was awarded the inaugural RSPO-RED Supply Chain certificate on 23 October 2013 allowing IOI to offer its customers renewable fuel produced from RSPO-RED-certified palm oil (read more on page 06).

Moving forward, IOI is determined to continue with the diligent practice of sustainable measures, and comply with all relevant laws, RSPO and ISCC principles and criteria for the sustainable growth of palm oil.

Committed to an assurance of quality, sustainability and traceability to the world market, IOI is geared to produce, source and increase palm products in a safe and sustainable manner throughout its chain of operations by continually exploring innovative ways and engaging in green measures. Furthermore the recently successful exportation of 500,000 ton of RSPO-certified palm oil to Europe is an affirmation to IOI’s goal to further increase the volume of certified sustainable palm oil, which currently stands at 15% of the total global supply of palm oil, through a traceable and transparent supply chain.

As a responsible corporate citizen, IOI is en route to enhance the value of sustainability and help build a future that is environmentally secure for all.

CERTIFYING A GREEN PATH

80% to 90% of IOI’s re-planting areas are planted with high yielding clonal palms to increase efficiency of the estates without adding land footprint. In fact 5,175 hectares of oil palm was replanted with high yielding materials in 2013.

The 15MW Biomass Co-Gen Power Plant in Sandakan, Sabah generates steam and electricity using kernel shells and empty fruit bunches (“EFB”).

EN ROUTE TO A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

CORPORATE UPDATES

BERITAIOI06IOI POSTS LOWER Q1 EARNINGS

Corporation Berhad (IOI)’s earnings stood at RM301.8

million for its first quarter ended 30 September 2013, registering a 50% drop from RM604.3 million a year ago due mainly to translation loss of RM164.1 million on foreign-currency denominated borrowings and lower profit from plantation division, despite a higher profit from resource-based manufacturing.

Lower crude palm oil (CPO) and palm kernel prices coupled with marginally lower fresh fruit bunch production decreased plantation’s profit by 36% to RM256.1 million. However IOI expects its plantation division to perform satisfactorily in the remaining quarters with CPO prices to remain at the prevailing level for the coming months. Higher contribution from its associate in Indonesia, Bumitama Agri Ltd, is also expected as more of their young palm trees reach peak production years.

Meanwhile, increased sales volume from the specialty oils and fats sub-segment and higher margins from the refining and oleochemicals sub-segments lifted the resource-based manufacturing division’s profit from RM73.2 million to RM218.6 million in this quarter.

The property division recorded RM149.2 million which was 33% higher than the previous quarter due to higher development revenue and increase in share of results from jointly controlled entities. Its maiden development in Xiamen, China has gained success and is expected to contribute favourably to the property division’s result going forward. Despite the increase in real property gain tax rates as announced in Budget 2014, the property division is expected to perform well given that the mass market segment where the group has significant presence will continue to be resilient.

IOI

IOI’S ACQUISITION OF

UNICO-DESALEADERSHIP FOR EXCELLENCEA team of 113 junior executives participated in a training

specially tailored to equip them with management skills needed to excel in their supervisory roles in plantation estates.

Themed “Leadership for Excellence”, the training was conducted by management consultant Mr Mohan Raj over two sessions – one in Sandakan on 4 and 6 September, while participants in Lahad Datu attended the session on 18 and 19 October 2013.

Overall, the participants learned more about leadership styles, motivation, influencing outcomes, communication with team, delegation of responsibilities as well as giving feedback and constructive criticism.

On 16 December 2013, IOI Plantation has successfully acquired more than 94% stake in Unico-Desa Plantation

Berhad (Unico-Desa) which allows the company to compulsory acquire the remaining offer shares. The targeted completion of the buyout is by early 2014. Subsequently, the Group is planning to withdraw Unico-Desa’s listing from Bursa Malaysia.

In line with the Group’s plans to expand its oil palm business, IOI completed its acquisition of a 39.55% stake in Unico-Desa for RM397 million on 3 October 2013. The deal triggered a mandatory takeover offer, at RM1.17 per share, for the remaining 60.45% stake in Unico-Desa; which will cost RM606 million – bringing the tally to RM1 billion for all of its shares. Besides gaining immediate access and controlling ownership over Unico-Desa’s established plantation operations in Sabah, the Group’s plantation landbank has increased by 13,660 hectares to 211,440 hectares with Unico-Desa’s estates in Kinabatangan and Lahad Datu in Sabah following the takeover.

The acquisition is expected to bring synergistic benefits to the company with increased crude palm oil production, and significant earnings contribution from Unico-Desa to be included into the company’s financial statements, all of which bode well for IOI’s long-term fresh fruit bunches (FFB) growth.

CHINESE POLITICIANS

VISIT IOI HQ

Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Secretary of the CPC Tianjin

Municipal Committee HE Madam Sun Chunlan made a courtesy call to IOI Corporation Berhad’s headquarters at Putrajaya on 27 November 2013. Madam Sun and her CPC delegation were warmly greeted by IOI Group Executive Chairman Tan Sri Dato’ Lee Shin Cheng and IOI Group Executive Director Dato’ Lee Yeow Chor.

The visit was part of her three-day visit to Malaysia and IOI Corporation was the only private corporation visited by Madam Sun during her official visit to Malaysia and other two countries. Also present was the Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia HE Datuk Chai Xi.

Madam Sun was highly appreciative of the contributions by the Malaysian Chinese to the development of China. She was keen to establish strategic partnerships with IOI Group and encouraged the Group to invest in the three new cities of Tianjin. She stressed that the globalisation and opening up of the economy to the rest of the world have brought remarkable benefits to the economic growth of Tianjin. Furthermore, Tianjin Port is the fourth largest port in the world, thus it has been a major gateway to the nation’s capital.

The delegates gained a better insight into IOI’s core businesses from the exhibition on oil palm cultivation and various presentation sessions. They also had the opportunity to sample various delicacies made of palm oil. The fruitful visit strengthened mutual relationships.

Congratulations to IOI!

The IOI team’s effort was acknowledged by RSPO’S Board of Governor’s Vice President II Mr Edi Suhardi (right) as they received the certificate from Dr Bayu Krishnamurti (left).

Sandakan Regional Office (SRO) recently held a series of trainings to upgrade its employees’ skill sets to improve efficiency in the

way estates are managed.

On 28 October and 11 November 2013, managers and assistant managers from Ladang Sabah and Pamol/Mayvin respectively gained knowledge on “Basic Civil Works Supervision” from Civil Engineer En Sainuddin Bustamin. Close supervision of construction works at estates and mills, such as building of staff and workers’ quarters, mosques and crèches, carried out by appointed contractors is necessary to ensure they meet the required standards.

Meanwhile, the assistant managers and cadet assistants from both groupings attended training on “Standard Operating Procedures” (SOP) on 29 and 30 November 2013. Emphasis was given on replanting, and the topics chosen from SOP were on nursery and field planting practices. Various speakers shared their experience from setting up nurseries, caring for DxP seedlings and ramets, field preparation to the later stages of field planting and legumes establishment.

The participants enjoyed both trainings as they learned more about estate management, and the topics discussed can help them in their day-to-day work.

UNDERSTANDING AGRICULTURE & OIL PALM INDUSTRY

CORPORATE UPDATES

BERITAIOI 09

On 8 December 2013, Sagil Estate welcomed the members of Young Presidents’ Organisation (Malaysia Chapter) [YPO] and their families for a visit hosted by

IOI Group Executive Director Dato’ Lee Yeow Chor and Datin Joanne Wong.

The group was warmly greeted by the Senior Estate Manager Mr Chong Nyong Poh and his team at the VIP Complex. After lunch, they proceeded to visit the mini zoo and themed garden. The children were particularly excited to see countryside animals such as deer, goats, sheep, peacocks, turkeys, ostriches and more. The well-kept garden was complimented on its beautiful landscape.

Besides viewing a live demonstration on fresh fruit bunches (FFB) harvesting, the guests also learned more about the process and oil palm plantation in general. It proved to be an interesting insight for the children to see how life in an estate is comparatively different to urban living. The visit ended on a delicious note with a variety of tropical fruits served.

BERITAIOI10

Technical reports littered with jargons and not-easy-to-understand terms pose headaches to both the sender and

recipient. Clear communication, verbal and written, ensures document technicalities are accurate, well transmitted and understood. However, the limitations of conventional writing methods often cause problems while preparing such reports.

During the “Technical Report Writing” training held by the Corporate Training department from 3 to 4 December 2013, experienced trainer Mr M.P. Than guided a group of 19 participants to write clear and concise technical reports by using the following WritePro techniques:

• Groupinginformationbyrelatedcontent.• Applyinglabels.• Consistencyintechnicalwriting.• Usingsupportingimages.• Havingtherightleveloflanguage.

The course was conducted in an interactive manner in which the participants participated in group discussions and activities. Among the learning objectives gained were:

• Structurecomplextechnicalinformationwithconfidence.• Writetechnicalreportsfaster.• Writetechnicalcontentswhichareeasytocomprehend.• Enablethereadertofindtherequiredinformationquickly.• Structureinformationconsistently.• Learnauniqueandprovenmethodologyusedgloballyto structure information.

While reports vary in the type of information they present (such as an academic research, results of an investigative study, or the solution to a design problem), they share similar features and are based on a similar structure. Hence, the writing tips can apply to any day-to-day written material.

HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT

BERITAIOI11

Project Management is an application of knowledge, skills and techniques to execute projects effectively and efficiently. Hence,

managing construction projects requires knowledge of modern management as well as an understanding of the design and construction process. A functional and financially viable project requires overall planning, coordination and control from the beginning till completion.

A total of 12 participants from the Property division benefited from a two-day workshop in “Project Management in Construction” held from 30 October to 1 November 2013 by the Corporate Training department.

The trainer Mr Raj Kumar Dheri, armed with a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management and 19 years of working experience, shared these key points:

•Understandthedrivingforces&implementationofprojects.•HowtoapplyPMI’s14knowledgeareasofprojectmanagement.•Develop&applyaproject&projectcontrols.•Theconceptoffacilitativeleadership&collaboration.

The winning team.

MANAGING CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS

Good customer service completes a customer’s experience with a brand or company. In its

continuous effort to better serve IOI Properties’ customers, the “IOI Service Champion Programme” was held for the fourth consecutive year to encourage those in the frontline to raise their service standards and be “Happy to Serve”.

The programme, implemented in all IOI townships from August to November 2013, garnered good response from customers who voted for the employee that delivered exemplary service in responding to their requests and queries. The IOI Service Champions received the highest number of votes and excellence ratings in each of their respective township.

…AND IOI SERVICE CHAMPIONS 2013

Congratulations to the IOI Service Champions for leading the way towards service excellence!

Putting on their thinking caps.

During the year-end dinner, IOI Group Executive Chairman Tan Sri Dato’ Lee Shin Cheng and IOI Group Executive Director Dato’ Lee Yeow Chor presented the “IOI Service Champion” awards to the following:

“A project can be successful

by incorporating various

management skills and

the ‘Project Life Cycle’

methodology.” – Participant

During the workshop, the participants were required to initiate a project, plan and manage it to successful completion. Successfully managing a construction project includes a four-step process: the parties must establish a project plan, develop a project schedule, monitor the project schedule and manage change events. Each step requires dedication and commitment from each team member. The course included case studies to strengthen participants’ understanding of the subject.

Bahau is a town located in the Jempol district, Negeri Sembilan. Once regarded as a sleeper town with a small

population, it has recently witnessed an economy revival of sorts with businesses springing up in the town centre, frequented by locals and visitors alike.

Capitalising on the resurgence of Bahau is IOI Properties Bhd, which launched the sale of “88 Square” – 88 units of three-storey shop offices – to the public on 8 November 2013. The volunteers tidied up the home’s compound with some cleaning drains, cutting grass, and disposing unwanted items. While some prepared and served breakfast and lunch to the residents, the rest helped to spring-clean the rooms and spent some time chatting with the elderly. Besides groceries, the residents also received clothing and bedding accessories such as bed sheets, pillows and blankets.

In its effort to maintain a greener and healthier environment, Pan-Century Group

has undertaken various green initiatives within its premises to encourage everyone to adopt simple and practical steps towards a greener lifestyle. Usage of plastic bags, food wrappers and Polystrene Styrofoam food ware was prohibited beginning 1 November 2013. All employees and contractors wishing to order food from the canteen or bring food from outside must take their own non-disposable containers.

The “Let’s Go Green” initiative also extends to the way the company operates. Mooted by Chief Operating Officer Mr Gurdev Singh, Pan-Century Oleochemicals has successfully implemented its rainwater harvesting project in the Pasir Gudang complex to reduce total city water consumption supplied by Syarikat Air Johor (SAJ).

During a rainy day, it can collect approximately 600m3 of rainwater which is used as make-up water for cooling towers. Considering that most of its boilers are fired by natural gas, rainwater proves to be the better alternative compared to city water due to the low Total Dissolved Solids (TDS).

The 11th Annual Roundtable Meeting on Sustainable

Palm Oil (RT11), the world’s largest sustainable palm oil meeting, was held from 12 to 14 November 2013 in Medan, Indonesia where elections were held for the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO)’s Board of Governors.

The RSPO is a non-profit association that unites stakeholders from the seven sectors of the palm oil industry – oil palm producers, palm oil processors or traders, consumer goods manufacturers, retailers, banks and investors, environmental or nature conservation NGOs and social or developmental NGOs – to develop and implement

global standards for sustainable palm oil. RSPO promotes palm oil production practices that help reduce deforestation, preserve biodiversity, and respect the livelihoods of rural communities in oil-producing countries. As one of the founding members, IOI has been part of the Board of Governors (previously named Executive Board) since the start of RSPO.

IOI Loders Croklaan Director of Sustainability Mr Ben Vreeburg who is representing IOI on the Board of Governors commented, “From the start of RSPO, IOI has been showing leadership in making the palm oil supply chain more sustainable and we are proud to be re-elected in the Board. IOI Loders Croklaan has recently published its Sustainable Palm Oil Sourcing practices online (www.croklaan.com). These practices re-confirm our commitment to the RSPO principles and sustainable growth.”

From 19 to 21 November 2013, the prestigious Food Ingredients Europe (FIE) exhibition was held in Frankfurt, Germany which

drew almost 25,000 guests to visit over 1,300 exhibitors. IOI Loders Croklaan Europe once again made a big impression.

IOILC Europe’s booth showcased one of the main competencies of the company, “Delivering on Ideas” and provided sampling of many products containing CristalGreen® and other products.

Although the show was held in Europe, the FIE has become a global event with visitors from around the world. Staff from IOILC Asia and

IOILC Americas were also present to meet customers from their regions. The visitors seized the opportunity to know more of the latest developments, discuss ongoing matters and spend valuable time with the IOILC staff.

The FIE 2013 was a great success for IOI Loders Croklaan. Winning the Food Ingredients Excellence award for CristalGreen® lent further credence to its participation and has shown the market that IOILC is “Delivering on Ideas”.

BERITAIOI 21WAREHOUSE MANAGEMENT SYSTEMGOES LIVE AT IOILC ASIA

On 30 and 31 October 2013, IOI Loders Croklaan staff from Malaysia, China and Europe gathered for the first time in Pasir Gudang,

Johor Bahru to discuss marketing strategies for human milk fat replacer Betapol®. Latest developments in the different regions were accessed and a brainstorming session led by an external public relations firm resulted in a PR and Media plan to determine the right sales strategy to tap the growing market demand for Betapol®.

INTERNATIONAL SALES MEETING TO PROMOTE

Loders Croklaan Asia successfully implemented real-time Warehouse Management System (WMS) at its

premises in Pasir Gudang, Johor recently. Production processes can now be streamlined to move items faster, store them more efficiently and having information available in a single system. This leads to reduced inventories, increased accuracy and better customer service.

The main warehouse’s 3,500mt storage space can hold up to 5,875 storage bins. Almost 200 types of products are safely kept in this warehouse which operates with three lift-trucks and five forklifts. Within the facility, there is also an 800mt of tempering (cooling) storage space with an average delivery of 300mt products shipped out daily.

Regular warehouse operations include placement of make-to-order (MTO) pallets into warehouse rack’s bins. Prior to WMS, the main warehouse bins’ information were managed in a manual system. Staff of the warehouse had to be vigilant against any data entry error which may compromise the quality of products.

Before deploying WMS, a site survey was conducted in the main warehouse and tempering areas to ensure minimum access points (APs) for the deployment to save time, money and effort. These Radio Frequency (RF) metrics were tested to determine a complete RF coverage in all the warehouse workflow areas such as Signal Strength, Noise, Signal-To-Noise Ratio (Snr), and Predictive Physical Data Rate.

WMS helps to control the movement and storage of finished goods, from production receipts into the tempering (cooling) and warehouse storage areas. With the new advanced system, this

information is scanned using a RF mobile device which is connected through wireless AP and Internet Transaction Server (ITS) to cover the main warehouse and tempering areas.

For instance, only one bin can be stored to a pallet at a time. Placement of different product into an occupied bin is not possible. When a finished good is removed from the tempering (cooling) room storage area, the system will check the storage period and trigger an alarm should the product be removed earlier than required. This ensures that the products are kept to the right cooling period, thus safeguarding its quality.

WMS also improves outbound processing by handling automatic order allocation, helping warehouse personnel to locate items for staging and packing, taking care of compliance labelling, automating picking and packing with handhelds, and scheduling dock appointments for shipments. All of these features increase accuracy and speed by eliminating manual steps, resulting in improved productivity through effective product allocation, and improved customer satisfaction by being able to deliver the right product the first time.

Launched on 9 December 2013, “The Heavenly Gift” once again made its way to IOI Mall Puchong in this season of

joy and giving. This fundraising event is an annual partnership between IOI Mall Puchong and “Community at Heart”, a non-profit organisation, since 2007. This year, funds were raised for various charitable organisations such as orphanages, nursing home for the elderly, refugee centre and “Pusat Sama-Sama”, a community centre at Enggang Apartment, Puchong.

Present at the campaign’s launch were IOI Mall Puchong General Manager Mr Ronnie Francis, Directors of “Community at Heart” Mr Timothy Loh and Mr Joseph Gan, and invited guests State Assemblyman of Kinrara YB Ng Sze Han and State Assemblywoman of Damansara Utama YB Yeo Bee Yin. The latter commended the mall for supporting charitable organisations and encouraged more private companies to join hands for a better community.

In addition, the campaign was made livelier with the “Pusat Sama-Sama Awards Ceremony” whereby 150 children and teenagers from the centre showcased their skills and talents through different performances such as dance recitals and storytelling. Both YBs and Petaling Jaya Councillor Michael Noel Jalleh attended the showcase, which also saw Yayasan Tan Sri Lee Shin Cheng Executive Director Datin Joanne Wong presenting certificates to the little ones.

The two-week campaign saw shoppers thronging beautifully-decorated “The Heavenly Gift” booth for complimentary gift-wrapping service by volunteers. White Christmas trees set up at the booth were adorned with descriptions of “Community at Heart” programmes and the lesser privileged individuals that the organisation supports. The public then chose the “ornament” that they wished to support and sponsor accordingly. All in all, it was a merry success!

On 12 December 2013, Putrajaya Marriott Hotel & Spa’s group of carollers D’flaming Reindeers shared the season

of joy with more than 75 less fortunate children at The Pavilion, Kuala Lumpur. Together with Palm Garden Hotel, they provided lovely Christmas goodie bags that delighted the children from Rumah Charis, Rumah Shalom and Desa Amal Jireh.

Emcees from TRAXX FM started the day of fun with a game of charades with the children. Then the D’flaming Reindeers took the stage and sang a number of Christmas carols like “Last Christmas” and “Jingle Bell Rock”. The children were happy to see Santa Claus hopping around them with delicious goodies in his “magical sack”.

On a poignant note, the carollers paid tribute to the victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines by singing a rendition of “Heal the World” and Filipino song, “Pasko Na Sinta Ko”.

A special appearance by the participants of Miss Tourism International 2013 from 60 countries further delighted the

FAMILY SPIRIT

BERITAIOI28

On 20 December 2013, about 600 employees of IOI Group gathered for an evening of fun amidst good food, entertaining

performances and lucky draws! The year-end dinner at Perdana Ballroom, Palm Garden Hotel was a fitting finale to a year of hard work, and had the staff looking forward to the New Year with renewed vigour and enthusiasm. The evening downpour did nothing to dampen the high spirits of the crowd!

Jointly organised by Kelab Keluarga IOI and Group Human Resource division, the year-end dinner started at 7pm with IOI Group Executive Director Dato’ Lee Yeow Chor welcoming the employees in his opening speech. Executive Chairman Tan Sri Dato’ Lee Shin Cheng and Puan Sri Lee along with IOI Group senior management were also present.

A live band serenaded a string of English and Mandarin songs as the employees savour the sumptuous buffet spread. Everyone was spellbound throughout Mr Suresh’s renowned face mask-changing performance. The highlight of the evening was the moment when the Employees of the Year and IOI Service Champions received their accolades (read more on page 10 and 11).

YEAR-END MERRIMENT FOR IOI STAFF

Dato’ Lee encouraging everyone to embrace the coming year with positivity and optimism.

Lucky draws were intermittently given away during intervals in the programme, and the Grand Prize of a 40-inch Toshiba LED TV was won by Mr Serguna Nathen from IOI Building Services Maintenance (Puteri Palma Management Office). Other prizes include a 2D/1N stay in Palm Garden Hotel.

Adding to the merriment, “Minutes to Win It” games were played on stage and both Dato’ Lee and Property Director Mr Teh Chin Guan sportingly attempted the “Shoe Fly Shoe” (tossing shoes onto a table with only one foot) and “Caddy Stack” (stacking of three golf balls on top of each other), respectively. These interesting challenges had to be completed in 60 seconds which tested the participants’ physical skills and creativity.

Overall, the employees enjoyed the evening and looked forward to a better 2014!
