the oil and gas industry.

With a global footprint, our talents constantly offer the most innovative technologies and

best solutions to our clients to optimize their investments and meet the world’s energy

challenges.

Our mission is to deliver safe, sustainable and quality projects across the world.

We operate in three main businesses:

Offshore

In the Offshore business, our

activities include engineering,

procurement, construction (EPC) and

installation of fixed and floating

platforms.

We use a complete range of

technological solutions to answer

the challenges faced by our clients.

We are leveraging our expertise in

full-range of offshore facilities, as

well as our strong know-how with

added-value process skills and

proprietary platform design.

Onshore

In the Onshore business, we deliver to

our clients all the experience we have

acquired for almost 60 years, combined

with a large technology solutions

portfolio. We are working on onshore

facilities that the energy sector needs, in

particular for oil and gas industry players.

Technip is one of the global leaders for

the refining business and petrochemical

units. We also reinforced our position on

project management consultancy (PMC)

activities, by leveraging our expertise in

the management of complex projects.

Subsea

In subsea hydrocarbon field

development, Technip’s activities

include the design, manufacture

and installation of rigid and

flexible subsea pipelines and

umbilicals.

Thanks to our portfolio of

technologies, industrial and

operational assets on all

continents and a state-of-the art

3Biofuel plants

Proprietary technologies

Technip has strengthened its leading position in the market for bioethanol

production units.

Technip technology enables the processing of any raw materials that may be

used for the production of fermentation ethanol:

sugar raw materials (beets, sugar cane, molasses)

starchy raw materials (cereals, cassava, wet milling by-products, potatoes)

A complete range of processes developed and perfected by Technip covers all

process stages, from raw material preparation to by-product recovery including:

raw material preparation (sugar and starchy raw materials)

hydrolysis

fermentation

distillation

dehydration

co-products and by-products recovery (evaporation, centrifugation, drying)

Using bioethanol technology provided by Technip helps reduce the green-

house gases.

A high yield with low energy consumption at a minimised cost

Technip processes have been developed to obtain optimum production cost:

optimum productivity (maximum ethanol produced/raw material used ratio,

optimised co-products and by-products recovery)

energy savings

operational reliability and limited number of operators

Bioethanol

Bioethanol is a renewable fuel used

in gasoline engines derived from the

fermentation of sugars from starch

or sugar-producing plants.

Bioethanol is either blended directly

with gasoline or in the form of ETBE

(Ethyl Tertio Butyl Ether) produced

by its synthesis with isobutene.

Technip’s technology enables the

production of all grades of alcohol

for the various uses and applications

required by the market.

Technip is a leader

in the engineering

and construction of

biofuel facilities, both

grassroots plants and

plant expansions.

4 Biofuel plants

Technip has designed and built numerous biodiesel

production units, with capacities ranging from

100,000 to 250,000 tonnes/year.

Technip is the leader on the French market with

the execution of 6 projects.

Glycerine

Esterification Decantation Distillation

Vegetableoils

Methanol

Biodiesel

Biodiesel

Biodiesel is used in diesel engines.

It is made from the trans-

esterification of vegetable oil or

animal fat. This process consists of

using a catalyst to trigger a reaction

between an alcohol (methanol or

ethanol) and the fatty substance in

order to produce a less viscous

product which can be used as fuel.

Technology for biodiesel

Technip has references in engineering biodiesel units based on classic and new

Axens solid catalyst technology. In particular, Technip built the first solid

catalyser biodiesel plant with Axens’ new technology with a simplified process

scheme (no acid injection, no waste water, high purity glycerin).

Esterification: the fatty matter reacts with methanol to produce a methylic

ester.

decantation: it enables the separation of ester from glycerine, which is then

used as a component for pharmaceutical or chemical products.

distillation: the purpose of this step is to separate the excess of methanol

from ester. The methanol is then recovered and reused in the esterification

process.

Technology main features

heterogeneous (solid) catalyst

Continuous process

Exceptionally high pure glycerine stream (>98% glycerol content, no salt)

Lower catalytic cost

No waste production of low value fatty acids leading to a very high yield of

ester per tonne of oil

No chemical consumption / handling

Simplified process scheme: no acid injection, no waste water

5Biofuel plants

With expertise in key

technological areas,

Technip participates in

development programs.

In cooperation with

Licensors and Producers

we offer our Clients a

large and complete

range of services.

Our goal is to bring

R&d projects to the

industrial level.

Unlike classic ethanol which is produced out of sugar or starch-basedfeedstock, cellulosic Ethanol is a new generation bioethanol produced fromlignocellulosic material (straw, wood waste, dedicated crops like miscanthus orswitchgrass).

Process stages in producing ethanol from cellulosic biomass involve a

pretreatment step (sugar extraction), biological conversion (fermentation),

product recovery (typically via distillation, dehydration), and residue processing

and utilities.

Production of ethanol from lignocellulose has the advantage of abundant and

diverse raw material none of which is used for human food production.

It has a low CO2 footprint.

Cellulosic ethanol is one of the most effective means for reducing GhG's in

transportation.

Technology

Producing cellulosic ethanol using a biological approach consists in few stages:

6 Biofuel plants

With a large experience in high temperature processes, Technip provides

design and construction of next generation biodiesel units.

NEW GENERATION BIODIESEL

NExt generation Biomass To Liquid (NExBTL)

Technip has established a close relationship with Neste Oil and has been

selected as EPC contractor for the Singapore and Rotterdam units.

With 800,000 t/year each, these are the world's largest biodiesel plants.

Another route to produce high quality biodiesel is to convert solid biomass into

synthetic fuel through a thermo-chemical route.

Biomass to Liquid (BtL) may be produced from almost any type of low-moisture

biomass, residues or organic wastes such as short rotation trees, straw, wood

waste, bagasse etc.

The process uses the whole biomass to improve carbon dioxide balance.

Based on its experience gained in delivering the world's largest GTL complex

(Oryx project), Technip offers world-class design and construction services for

BtL plants.
