Greetings my fellow Beast Soldiers! This past month

has been amongst the busiest in recent memory and

you all have accomplished so much. We have over

60% of the detachment CLS certified and trained in

CSF2/MRT, and we welcomed a newcomer to the de-

tachment. There is still much more excitement to come

though as the summer months get closer. July looks to

bring an exciting FRG outing and 4th of July Holiday

Celebration, as well as another Internal Control Inspec-

tion and the joint JMSC (VBS2) exercise with HQ, Al-

pha, and Charlie Detachments. August is filling up fast

with our Detachment FTX, as well as continued training

and preparation for those supporting KFOR-19. We

should be able to cap the summer off with the FMSU

FTX in September in Grafenwoehr. Thank you all for

your dedication, loyalty, perseverance, and commit-

ment to making this unit an astounding success.

The summer months are finally here! I am sure each of

you has started to plan or have already planned fam-

ily vacations to various locations around the globe.

Make sure you plan accordingly, check ahead to see if

you require a security brief for your destination; check

your travel documents to ensure you have the appro-

priate papers to return from your destination. If you

like to shop as much as I do you need to make sure you

have the appropriate currency for the location you are

visiting. It is sometimes cheaper to exchange currency

at a local bank, check the exchange rates. USO, Out-

door Recreation and MWR have an abundance of trips

available for you and your family. Stop by and see

what each agency has to offer. While you are travel-

ing and enjoying the countryside don’t get complacent.

Keep a close eye on your valuables and your little

ones. Have fun and enjoy the country but remember to

be safe and take care of you and your family.

MONTH OF JUNE BY PFC Nalukwago

Beast Report Page 2

June is a time to prepare for summer fun. It is time to show off that swimsuit or dress

you worked so hard during the winter months to fit into. Time to bring dust off your grills and show

off your cooking skills, just make sure you know how to use the grill or there is a least fire extin-

guisher near. You don't want to turn an event of fun into a day at the emergency room. With the

blazing sun we will see for the next few months, don’t not forget about safety. Many of us get so

excited we forget some of the little things that help keep us safe. Simple things like staying hy-

drated, wearing sunscreen, use of insect repellant (for my campers), wearing a helmet when riding a

bike and having a reflective belt with you can protect you from the dangers that are lurking in the

shadows. Always have a plan for the activities that are coming up. Europe sometimes has unpredict-

able weather, but I think the summers are great. Some days are really hot but dress appropriately be-

cause the weather can change from very hot to cold rather quickly, especially in the evening. For

those with families remember the kids are out of school, find activities that are both fun and safe for

you to do together. If you plan to swim in a river or stream, use extreme caution and stay away from

swift moving water. Heavy rain and flash flooding makes many swim holes, rivers and streams un-

predictable and dangerous. Always have a plan. For my fellow single Soldiers, do not stay in the

barracks. Get out there and enjoy the beautiful weather. Kaiserslautern and Ramstein have swim-

ming pools and a tennis court, get out there and test you tennis skills or take a swim class. There are

plenty of different activities to do. You can enjoy a stroll in the Chinese Garden that located in

downtown Kaiserslautern. The weekends in Germany are always eventful from fairs to markets. Go

to the park play Frisbee. You can also check out USO. It has great volunteer opportunities. MWR is

always looking for tour guides and getting a free trip with them is a bonus. So there is no excuse for

you to stay indoors and miss out on getting a tan or enjoying Europe. I couldn't be more excited

about summer. Enjoy!!

I wish you a great summer. Have fun and remember you represent one of the greatest branches in

the military, stay professional and be courteous.

VBS2 TRAINING BY PFC Carreon

Beast Report Page 3

The convoy training was not only a great learning experience for new Soldiers,

like myself, to begin to learn the ropes but it was also an enjoyable experience. It was a

great way to learn how to speak on a radio, how to conduct convoy movement, maintain a

360 degree security and how to deal with an improvised explosive devices. The staff was

great and helped us in every way possible. It was a different learning environment. Even

though it is not what goes on in real life, it helped us get a view of how to react in case we

are faced with a similar situation. Most of us still need more practice especially with radio

etiquette. We were all put in leadership positions and depending on how the scenario was,

we were able to react accordingly. Overall it as fun and I enjoyed the training.

“Hunt the Good stuff” Leadership Training by SSG Pileski Betty

For three days I had the opportunity to attend Command Team Training in Baum-

holder. It was a privilege to attend the training, as I got to interact with Soldiers from the

Company, the Battalion and the Brigade elements. I really got a chance to view things

from a different perspective. As a leader, it is imperative to know your Soldiers well

enough in order to recognize and re-organize when they are acting out of the ordinary.

This is an important tool to assist and develop your Soldiers in the ways that they need to

both grow and overcome work and personal hurdles.

At the training, the entire Battalion worked together as a team to ensure the Bri-

gade was ready for any deployment. We also discussed the philosophy of the Brigade

Commander, and how we can incorporate his objectives into our day to day duties, and

not just have it posted on a board in our office. We also received guidance from the War-

rior Transition Unit to provide us with a better understanding on how the process works to

properly ensure our Soldiers with longer periods of medical needs are being taken care of.

The classes were informative and refreshing, and I was able to gain new and fresh

ideas to further within my own team. If our resilience is only as strong as our weakest

link, then how easily can we build up those who need it most? Helping someone change

their perception during a difficult situation can reward both the Soldier and the Leader.

When we know how to overcome, we will not be taken down so easily. Resiliency

should not only be focused on the individual, but also the Detachment as one whole. Af-

ter all, we are the Bravo Beasts.

SPAIN ADVENTURE BY PFC Nalukwago

I had the opportunity of spending Memorial Day weekend in Spain. I went to a small city along the

beach called Santa Suzanna which is about 40 miles from Barcelona. I for one am not a city person so

this place was just the perfect getaway. This was a rather long and tiring but trip; I would recommend

flying or a road trip with friends. The weather was beautiful and the water was rather inviting but very

cold. However once in, it was warm. The hotel we stayed in was 5 minutes walk from the beach

which was very convenient. A stroll along the beach was relaxing. Barcelona is a beautiful city, filled

with so many people from different parts of the world just like any normal tourist city. Car fumes,

music, food, the buildings and best of all it was a time

when the two Spain teams were set to play soccer

against each other. Even though it was all in Madrid,

the people in this city couldn't be more excited. It felt

great being a part of this spectacular event. I liked

Santa Suzanna however; Tossa Del Mar stole my

heart. This city was about two hours by boat. The

views where amazing. I felt I was in the scene of

Mama Mia. It was so authentic. The people, the food

and the general atmosphere was a breath of fresh air. It

was a wonderful way to end the weekday in Spain. I

would

recommend to everyone if they have a chance to check

out Spain. It has a lot to offer.
