meI was born in Ecuador and lived there until I was three in a large brick house built by my father and designed by my mother. It was a house built far from anything, we had no running water nor electricity and yet my mother raised me and my two brothers there. My most vivid memories are sitting in the large fireplace all covered in ash, trying to catch insects crawling in the flowers or just sitting on the kitchen floor watching my mother. Then we moved to Tunisia we lived in a house with a large garden and a crazy dog, who we spent most of our time trying to run away from. Three years later we moved to Spain, where we lived in a 4 story tower like house. On weekend mornings my brothers and I would take a mattress and slide down all four flights of stairs. Then in Colombia we would spend hours playing and building with Lego. In Costa Rica we were fortunate enough to build our house using traditional adobe bricks. I studied industrial design and I’m inspired by the built environment and that which surrounds us everyday. I have built super adobe domes at CalEarth, have designed emergency shelters with the UN, have worked with alternative energy technologies and haved worked with graphic and webdesign for NGOs as well as private comapanies. I love to be challenged and wont rest until I manage to create something that satisfies me. I try to listen and understand as hard as possible before speaking, it is not by chance that we have two ears and yet only one mouth.

eco cabinsThese cabins are inspired upon the concept coined by the architect William McDonough known as Cradle to Cradle. It states that any of the material used in the design of a product can be integrated into a biological or technical cycle at the end of the products lifetime. These cabins are designed to take advantage of the local resources available such as the sunlight and wind to generate power for the six apartments. These also have a natural waste water treatment system, passive ventilation and a low physical and visual environmental impact. Thanks to the green roof's insulating qualities the inside temperature is always comfortable and the rain water harvest setup allows the users to become indepen-dent from the municipal water grid.

UN emergency shelterThis project arose when at the beginning of 2009 after an earthquake left hundreds of people without homes. I was asked to help the UN Habitat offices here in Costa Rica by designing an emergency shelter adequate for the climate and conditions of the area. So alongside them, and the ministry of housing, I developed this prototype. A structure that is partly prefab and the other part low tech onsite building with sand bags. The idea behind this prototype is for it to be easy enough to build that anybody can be a part of the process but at the same time offer a dignified temporary living alternative.

Hydraulic adobe pressThis was my graduation project for university and is a hydraulic adobe brick pressed designed to improve and standardize the quality of adobe bricks used for rural construction. This product will decrease the duration of the build, the physical strain on the workers and increase the structural integrity of the building.SOFTWARE: Google Sketchup,Vray for Sketchup,Rhino 4.0, Vray for Rhino, Bongo for Rhino

One Laptop Per ChildA donation box deisgned to be interactive and fun for those who make the donation. These were designed to be used in the international airport in San José, Costa Rica as well as in malls, office centers and events. They are light, resistant, have an 8hour battery life and most importantly are fun to use! The first donation box has been made and is working in the VIP lounge at the airport and another 16 are yet to come.

“It is an issue of arrogance and self pride to consider it possible for us as human beings to have the power to destroy our planet, what we fear is not earths oblivion but it’s loss of ability to support our parasitic ways. We must embrace our delicate state and work together towards a more sustainable future” - Ayal Bryant
