Ayala High School Concert Choir EnsemblesAudition Packet 2014-2015
Audition ProcessFor Vocal, Women’s, or Men’s Ensemble consideration, please be prepared to sing a 30-second song segment of your choice a cappella. The piece should show off your range and vocal ability as you would sing in a choral setting. The audition will consist of the following: song, range test, singing a series of ear training exercises, and a short interview.
Auditions will be held after school on May 5, May 6, and May 7, please sign up for an audition time slot. The sign-up sheet will be available April 21st. 8th graders may email Miss Fernandez to reserve a time slot at [email protected].
Call-backs for Vocal Ensemble will be held on May 9 from 3:00–5:00 pm. The list of singers called back will be posted on May 8 on the choir bulletin board in the “band hallway” and on the choir room door. Those singers must pick up the call-back music selection and learn their part for May 9. There will not be call-backs for Men’s or Women’s Ensembles. Call-backs will consist of singing the selected repertoire in a quartet, a series of vocalizes, and a possible sight-reading exercise. Final rosters will be posted on May 10.
Mandatory Meetings for Concert Choir Ensembles
1) Should you be selected for one of the Ensembles, there will be a mandatory meeting in the choir room on Wednesday, May 14 @ 2:30 pm. You will then receive materials and information necessary for the next school year.
2) New members selected for the Ensembles will be required to volunteer at the 2014 Candlelight Concerts on May 22, 2014 in the Ayala High School Choir Room (C103). The time you are required to attend will be determined by the choir to which you are admitted as outlined below:
Men's Ensemble 6:30 – 7:15pmWomen's Ensemble 7:30 – 8:15pmVocal Ensemble 8:30 – 9:15pm
3) A parent, guardian, or adult representative from your family MUST attend the mandatory General Membership and New Parent meeting on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 @ 6:30pm in the choir room (C103). At this meeting, they will be introduced to the program, further informed of costs associated with the auditioned Concert Choir Ensembles, and vote on the 2014-2015 executive board members for the Ayala Choral Boosters. There will also be an opportunity to make a fair-share contribution installment of $250 for each student in the auditioned choirs (the Boosters will have a Visa/MasterCard debit machine available for your convenience with an additional 4% ($10) added to cover costs associated with credit card payments).

6. The Men’s, Women’s, and Vocal Ensembles will be touring and it is expected that everyone participates. Depending on the destination, the tour can be costly, $800-$1800. There will be opportunities to raise funds throughout the school year. 7. Members of the Ayala Concert Choirs are expected to attend every singing event throughout the school year, including performances, tours, and extra rehearsals. It is of the utmost importance that every member is committed. Write a paragraph describing your dedication to be committed.

8. Members of the Ayala Concert Choirs are asked to contribute to the Ayala Choir Program in order to help maintain the high level of achievement and traditions in the program. While these contributions are not mandatory and does not affect your acceptance, participation or your grade in choir, your generosity is greatly appreciated. The fair share cost, which includes the purchasing of sheet music, transportation, uniforms, spirit gear, professional musicians, but not tour is estimated to be $500. Many fundraising events will be available to offset individual fair share contributions.
