Tips for your home
Gas Heating SystemsWe always recommend that your gas heating systems are checked out at the beginning of every fall/winter season. With gas systems, car-bon monoxide is a factor and a safety issue. Its always a good idea to have carbon monoxide detectors that are functioning.
Air ConditionersWith air conditioners, there are not a lot of safety issues. However, we recommend having them checked to maintain optimal efficiency and to keep you comfortable during the heat of the summer.
Clean FiltersClogged, dirty filters block normal air flow and reduce a systems efficiency significantly. We recommend replacing or cleaning your filter once a month.

Tips for selling your home
The Front DoorYour front door says, welcome into our home, so make the front door the focal point of your homes exterior.
A new door can be a great investment or a fresh coat of paint on an old door can make a dramatic difference.
Adding a welcome mat and some new hardware can also add to the impact. Remem-ber this is the first impression potential buyers have of your home as they come inside.
For a small amount of time and money you can really update your curb appeal just by sprucing up your front door!
Check our website next month for the rest of our top 10 tips for boosting your homes curb appeal.

Get Your Heart Back in the Game
PROMOTIONAL
Although local legend and football coach Jimmy Red Parker has taken his share of hits over his 40-plus years of coaching from his Fordyce dynasty to the Clemson Tigers facing heart failure seemed to be the one hit that would sideline him for good.
I knew I was dying, Parker said. I absolutely couldnt take another step. I was so terribly weak.
While Parker was surprised to learn that he had congestive heart failure about six years ago after a cardiologist told him he didnt think he would survive a simple stent procedure, it wasnt until 2011 that the coach really started feeling the effects of the disease.
I had absolutely no strength, no energy and no appetite. That wasnt like me, and I knew something was very, very wrong. Nothing made me feel better, said Parker, who is just one of five million Americans who has congestive heart failure with 600,000 new cases diagnosed each year.
A little uneasy with his prognosis, Parker sought a second opinion from one of his former Fordyce football players, a cardiovascular surgeon who recommended the HeartMate. The HeartMate II is the most widely-used left-ventricular assist device that takes over the pumping of the blood in a patients heart. Much smaller and lasting up to 10 times longer than its predecessor, the artificial pump is implanted in the patient and a small battery pack worn around the waist.
Its a bridge to transplant for some, but a permanent treatment for others, said Dr. John Ransom, one of Parkers cardiovascular surgeons at Baptist Health. However, about three-fourths of patients with a HeartMate II opt to keep it instead of seeking a new donor heart. Of the 50,000 patients who qualify for an assist device or a new donor heart, there are only about 2,200 donor hearts available each year.
In better physical condition than most men his age, Parker was approved and received
his HeartMate II device last May from the Baptist Health Heart Institute, the only hospital in Arkansas that implants this life-saving technology.
A majority of patients [who receive the HeartMate] are self sufficient and have the ability to go back to work and resume their lives, Ransom said. That was the case for Parker, who was back on the practice field within weeks of receiving his artificial pump.
Now I feel good again, said the 80-year-old. Parker acknowledges he still gets a little out of breath and retains fluid, but said that should decrease with time and medication.
Feeling good again is important to Parker as he continues his third year as the football coach for Harmony Grove High School, as well as returns to his second and third loves playing golf and visiting his seven grandchildren (two of whom are carrying on the coaching tradition) and five great-grandchildren.
It would be hard for me to envision anybody who could have given me better care than what they [Baptist Health] did for me, and its not just from the physicians, but all the care givers there.
