Feature overview

Multi-language disputes demand that eDiscovery systems be language-agnostic and include integrated translation capabilities. eDiscovery review managers need to know up front how many documents in what languages exist within the review corpus. Based on the volume and variety of different languages and the availability and cost of native-language reviewers they can decide whether to engage native-language reviewers or to translate the review content and standardize on English. For native-language review, a single platform with equivalent multi-lingual analysis and review functionality across all languages is needed. To translate documents and standardize to English, secure and integrated capabilities are primary prerequisites. OpenText MindServer AdministrationTM powers OpenText Axcelerate’sTM advanced analysis and review capabilities and is language-agnostic by design. Complete native-language reviews can be conducted within Axcelerate including the ability to auto-detect languages so they can be segmented out and assigned via specialized workflows to native-language reviewers. Axcelerate also includes integrated translation capabilities when clients want to translate the review content and standardize review in English.

features like automated stemming to collapse variance in terms to their common roots for superior search results. Axcelerate allows users to easily copy-and-paste search terms in any language into any Axcelerate search field, thereby removing the need for specialized Unicode keyboards that support multi-lingual characters.

Language-agnostic at the coreFully Unicode-compliant, MindServer Administration enables Axcelerate to index, retrieve, and search any language, including multibyte languages. Axcelerate’s language-agnostic design pervades the functions and utilities throughout. Searches, highlighting, and even redaction can be executed in any language.

Predictive coding, in any language The predictive coding function in Axcelerate analyzes statistical patterns across streams of characters. Even pictorial languages like CJK are supported because they are assessed as individual characters and combinations of characters. Axcelerate empowers case managers to create discrete review universes segmented by language within a single database. This enables efficient, parallel review workflows with streamlined administration, as well as a comprehensive Business Intelligence layer across all case data.

Powerful analytics and international dataAxcelerate provides a full suite of advanced analytics and interactive visualizations to help legal teams cull data, prioritize review, and discover key facts. With minimal exceptions (e.g. character tokenization for Chinese and Japanese language sets may limit the use of Phrase and Concept Analysis), Axcelerate’s powerful analytics function uniformly across languages, enabling consistent review and analysis on most multinational datasets.

Integrated translationAxcelerate’s new API integration with Veritone aiWARE enables secure and automated translations on the fly when native language reviewers are unavailable or when clients want to standardize review in English.

Users can push extracted text in 29 different languages to Veritone for automated translation to English. The workflow integrates seamlessly: users can use Smart Filters to isolate foreign language documents and simply click “Translate” to kick-off a new translation job. The extracted text is securely transferred via API to Veritone’s translation engine and back so the security and integrity of native files is maintained.

Translated text is accessed by a new viewer tab labeled “translated” so reviewers can assess the content in English and easily compare the near-native text to the original document. But perfect translations are not always available between languages and approximations are often required. To accommodate this, Axcelerate’s predictive coding routines only look at the native files so the engine acts as if it were a native speaker and is free from translation bias. As such, reviewers get the best of both approaches by being able to conduct searches across the high-quality translations while Axcelerate returns results from the native content.

A separate license with Veritone is required to execute translations, but the API is integrated into Axcelerate at no additional cost.

SummaryAxcelerate was built with multilingual challenges in mind and is language-agnostic because it is statistics-based. eDiscovery managers can quickly and easily understand the language landscape of their data and make better decisions about resources and timelines. They have the flexibility to decide on the right workflow, whether that’s a full native-language review in Axcelerate, segmenting out specific languages for native-language review or using translations to empower review in English.
