Other suggestions
Experience of Georgia in Improving the
‘Women and Men’ Publication
Avoid 3D charts
Avoid written values in charts
Combine numbers if indicators are less important or have
little values
Rounded off numbers. Avoid decimals in tables
Graph and table together is not necessary
Showed percentage and sex distribution
Showed several years only if there are significant changes, otherwise
showed the latest year. Time series shall be presented in graphs
Selected the appropriate type of chart
Excluded regional data. Only left those where region is an important
gender issue
Showed source of information below tables and graphs
Included short describing texts where necessary to point out for the
user what is the most important
Assigned red colour for women and blue colour for men
Continued cooperation with users of gender statistics
What we have done - conclusion
Experience of Georgia in Improving the
‘Women and Men’ Publication
Presented a new booklet to invited users and media representatives
Presentation was like a life story beginning with sex ratio at birth and
ending with sex distribution in the parliament
Users appreciated the work towards simplification of the booklet
