1. Overall Objectives of the Project
This report represents the progress of the assessment made for the surface and
groundwater resources and their vulnerability to pollution as well as the impact of
pollutants on the lives of the residents (especially women and children) in Salfeet
District. The progress report was developed on the basis of the agreed Terms of
Reference by the Arab Gulf Programme for the United Nations Development
Organizations (AGFUND) with the House of Water and Environment (HWE).
The following briefs the two years project’s main tasks:
1. Assessment of the impact of pollution on water resources and the environment. 2. Development of criteria and framework for the protection of groundwater at
various levels. 3. Protection of water resources. 4. Management of the health risk. 5. Implementation of training activities and awareness campaigns for the local
communities on: (a) Impact of pollution on water and environment. (b) Groundwater protection guidelines. (c) Assessment of health risk of pollutants
To achieve the project’s objectives effectively, different activities were carried out
including: research of pollution sources, survey processes, statistical analyses, in
addition to a wide range questionnaire which was conducted by the HWE team.
Marginalized villages were visited and as expected our team was stopped by many facts
about hard living including incorrect thoughts and traits within the residents of the
project’s study area.
This report summarizes the activities that were implemented to fulfill objective No.5
mentioned previously. This campaign was launched by HWE and addressed women in
Salfeet. The main goal of the campaign was to spread the findings of this project’s
previous reports through residents. The public just does not know that there is a
problem of polluted water that can directly affect their health.
