View Point
Dear colleagues,
It gives me great pleasure
to congratulate you on a
fantastic 2015.
We started the year by
completing a very busy
tendering period for our
water business, which saw
us secure a place on the £1bn Thames Water
alliance. We then renewed an important scope of
work with Southern Water and we were also
delighted to add two new contracts to our existing
one with Anglian Water. In this edition of 6S you
can read more about how we are getting on with
these contracts.
In the spring we began an incredibly important
process of sharing our vision for 2020 with you
with events all around the UK taking place
simultaneously. The results and improvements
throughout our business have already been
incredibly positive, so I thank you for your
participation and enthusiasm.
In recent months Scotland surprised us and
England disappointed us in the Rugby World
Cup, so much so that for a moment it threatened
to spoil the party! However, I am thrilled to
announce recent framework wins with both UK
Power Networks and Scottish Power. These wins
are a great credit to those of you who have
worked tirelessly to deliver an outstanding level
of service for these clients - and also our
estimating and bid management department
which has demonstrated our services and
capability with care and clarity.
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity, on
behalf of Kevin, myself and the rest of the Clancy
family to wish you a very happy Christmas and
prosperous new year. I know my father would be
proud of where we are - you should be too.
Sincerely,
Dermot Clancy
Joint Chairman,

Commenting on this achievement, Senior Contract Manager
Denver Knight said, “Our success has been largely down to theteam that was put together to deliver this unique project. Thescheme demanded that we think ‘outside the box’ in terms of Healthand Safety, customer focus and construction method - and the teamhave excelled at doing just that, with a positive can-do attitude. This scheme is something to be really proud of, for everyone whoworked on it.”
We are extremely pleased to
announce that this scheme in
Ramsgate, Kent – to rehabilitate and
create more than 20km of new
sewers and storage, plus 96 deep
manholes – has been completed on
programme and within budget. The
£24 million scheme has met the
AMP5 regulatory output to improve
the sewer network in the Thanet
area, and is the first phase of an £85
million improvement scheme to be
completed over the next ten years.

Innovative approach
One of the major successes of the scheme was the use of a
structural UV liner, which Clancy Docwra proposed and
presented at tender stage. This method removed the need to fill
the voids with costly grout, which would have presented huge
problems in terms of customer impact, cost, lorry movements and
pumping arrangements.
Contract Manager Alan Skipper also added, “The lining methodproposed was a first in the industry. Along with our chosenspecialist McAllister Bros, we went to visit the liningmanufacturers in Germany - to carry out a full testing regime, and to ensure the liner could withstand both falling debris andcuring against uneven walls, whilst also keeping shape in the aditfloor. The results of the tests, and a piece of pipe placed in areplication of the adit, formed part of the CD presentation.”
Denver Knight continued, “This solution inevitably played a bigpart in us being awarded the scheme as it reduced programmetime, and reduced exposure of the workforce to a potentiallyharmful environment. It also meant there was no longer a needto place grout or concrete that could have been harmful to thewater course.”

Health and Safety
One of the key goals of this scheme, as with all our schemes, was to ensure that
everyone went home safe, every day, for the life of the project - with zero
accidents. The project posed many challenges to maintaining good Health and
Safety, with the highest risks being due to working at depths of 10 metres, the
atmospheric conditions and the weather.
The project was completed with an exemplary Health and Safety achievement,
and recorded the following outcomes - which were accumulated over the life of
the project, with over 100 employees on site at times;
Awards The scheme has been shortlisted for thefollowing awards;
Utility Week Awards 2015: finalists for SupplyChain Excellence and Team of the Year
This scheme has also won awards for;

We are pleased to confirm that our second district heating network
project is now under way. The project is located in central London
at the Royal Hospital of St. Bartholomew, which was founded in
1123 and is the oldest hospital
in Europe.
District heating (also known as
heat networks or teleheating) is a
system for distributing heat
which has been generated in a centralised location - ideal for residential
and commercial heating requirements such as space and water heating.
We will be digging a 450 metre long trench, which is 2 metres wide
and 1.8 metres deep. The trench will house four steel heating pipes of
an average of 300mm diameter each, but varying in size. We will also
be installing four 125KV electrical ducts for UK Power Networks and
two comms ducts for E.ON. Commenting on the scheme, Project Manager, Mick O’Connor
said, “This is another great project for us to take on. Extremelynarrow working space, combined with residential parking andof course the high pedestrian numbers in central London, means that very careful planning is required. There is also somechallenging pipe installation and specialised welding required- so it’s certainly not a straightforward job”.
St Bart’s is Clancy Docwra’s second district heating network
contract in recent months, with the first one at Gateshead
District Council progressing well. The Gateshead project is to
provide a district heating and private wire network from the
new energy centre at Quarryfield Road in Gateshead.
Commenting on the Gateshead project, Graeme Alcock,
Regional Performance and COSM Manager at Clancy Docwra,
said, “The project is going really well, we are through thedesign stage and are currently finalising the hydraulicmodelling elements of the district heating network.”

Clancy Docwra begins work for UK Power
Networks at Queen’s Theatre London
Clancy Docwra has recently begun work
for UK Power Networks (UKPN) at the
Queen’s Theatre in London. This work
involves relocating the existing
transformer chamber within the theatre,
to a newly constructed chamber that
utilises existing vaults below the
carriageway on Wardour Street..
The scope of work includes managing the decommission,
demolition and construction works within the existing chamber
– and then constructing a new concrete transformer chamber
and ventilation system, within the underground vaults at
Wardour Street.
The Queen’s Theatre is currently showing Les Misérables and
is located in an incredibly busy area, with tight footpaths and
heavy traffic. Therefore, managing public safety, staying in
constant communication with the theatre and controlling
vehicle access are the highest priorities for the team.
City of Westminster Council planning permission requires
Wardour Street to remain operational to traffic of up to 7.5
tonnes during the works. As a consequence, to ensure access
and safety, an extensive system of temporary works design is
required from Clancy Docwra, working with consultants
Structa Ltd.
The tank removal sequence also had to comply with the
temporary works sequence for the demolition of the existing
vault. As such, we had no alternative but to cut the contaminated
metal tanks apart piece by piece, and pass them out of the vaults
through pavement lights up to the street level.
It will take approximately three weeks in total to remove the oil
tanks currently found in the vaults – and this work will be
carried out using hydro cutting techniques, to ensure safety
when cutting around tanks that once contained oil.
The design and construction of the new chamber and ventilation
system, and the installation of the new transformers, are expected
to be completed by the summer of next year.

A successful year forVariable Message SignsThe VMS business, acquired
almost a year ago, has gone
from strength to strength
during 2015 with growth in key
sectors – traffic management,
utility service providers, and the
event industry.
With four different models making up the 45 unit fleet, the
VMS division can offer a range of versatile intelligent traffic
solutions. The all new fleet is available for short or long term
hire with a capacity for rapid response to emergencies.
During its first year the units have been on hire to companies
such as Thames Water and Anglian Water for use in
emergency ‘bursts’; at Gatwick Airport for message display
and traffic count; and in Hyde Park for the BBC ‘Proms in
the Park’ where they were used for crowd control. They have
even been used to direct fans at the recent Rugby World Cup!
Commenting on this successful first year, VMS Account
Manager Caroline Walton said, “It’s been a great yearestablishing the VMS division and getting the units out tomarket in a very challenging, diverse and competitive sector. One of the keys to success is great customer service and weare getting great feedback from our customers, resulting inrepeat business.”
Clancy Plant Hire is currently expanding its fleet of VMS
Units to meet demand, as well as reviewing the marketplace
to consider introducing new locations in the UK.
With plans to offer more traffic management solutions to
customers via the wider Clancy Plant Hire portfolio, and
opportunities to gain key contracts in the highways sector,
2016 looks like it will continue the VMS success story.

Anglian Water’s SMART recyclingplan makes commercial sense…
12 I 6S16
Clancy Docwra is working closely with Anglian Water and partners
to ensure that the teams remain focused on delivery – and one of the
many initiatives is the introduction of a SMART recycling plan.
Structural material for reinstatement utilising excavation arisings.
SMR binder is added to suitable material for recycling via a
screen system, with a computerised weighing system. It is then mixed
and discharged from the conveyor into a storage bay.
Material produced has an appendix A9 of the SROH
(Specification for the Reinstatement of Openings in Highways)
allowing direct replacement of Type 1 stone.
Anglian Water embraces the use of SMR to maintain recycling
KPIs in line with government targets, and to drive efficiencies
into the contract.
Reduction in landfill and aggregate taxes, and regular testing by
Norfolk County Council (which forms part of the Anglian
Highways and Utility Committee) ensures compliance of the
produced material.
Teamwork. The Clancy Plant Hire team integrates with the IMR
& IMDS delivery teams to ensure Client and Highway
Authorities expectations of recycling are met.

local authorities
Since the start of AMP6, a real focus
has been put on engaging with the
highway authorities at all levels. As
well as quarterly liaison meetings
with each Highway Authority,
regular meetings with site agents
and inspectors are being held. This
has helped to identify any potential
issues very early on, and enables us
to address them together.
Good relationships are being
formed, which are making it easier
to fulfil our day-to-day duties.
Discussing upcoming and ongoing

turn benefits the general public and
our customers.

Innovation focus
How is theperformancebeingmeasured, and how is italigned toClancy Docwra’sVision 2020?
Clancy Docwra currently has thirteen
teams working on the Integrated
Maintenance & Repair (Water & Water
Recycling) contract for Anglian Water -
which covers Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire,
Buckinghamshire, Northants, Cambridgeshire
and Leicestershire. To date the team has
completed 1,150 jobs and these have
included repairs, maintenance and general
rehabilitation of drains and sewers. This
has been achieved with zero RIDDORS
and zero Lost Time Injuries (LTIs).
Anglian Water is the first client to fully
implement Clancy Mobile, which uses the
Total Mobile platform. All teams are now
managing their schedules, collecting data
and submitting HSEQ documents via
Clancy Mobile - which has saved time,
resource and cost on day to day duties.
Commenting on the relationship, Continuous
Improvement Manager Rob Pugh said, “Wehave an operational base at Great Billingwhere we co-locate with the Anglian Waternetwork teams, and this has been a great
to undertake the same work - which givesour teams great versatility, whilstminimising cost through travel/fuel andwaste saving.”
example of partner collaboration. We alsohave three satellite depots located at Corby,Bedford and Sandy, which give us theflexibility to undertake work across theRutherford area.”
These teams have various skill sets, from
shallow to deep excavation, surveying and
no dig teams, enabling them to respond
quickly to complex jobs. Rob continues, “Todate we have undertaken repairs of sewersand drainage down to 4+m below groundlevel in highways, urban and rural locations.
Here we have trialled new innovations suchas plastic trench support technology. Wehave also utilised no dig technologies suchas pipe bursting, high pressure waterjetting and cutting, mechanical cutting, cold cure/hot cure pipe lining, and mortarspray lining of manhole chambers - alongwith a support team that undertakes CCTVon pipes and sewers, ranging from 100m to1,200mm to date. We are currently utilisingiron guard mastic asphalt systems, and weare also using the new Roadmender plant
We looked at some of the performance metrics on the Anglian
Water contract and compared them to our 6S foundations, which
is the criteria that underpins our Vision 2020 to be ‘the most
trusted provider of essential services that keep the UK running’.
Our 6S foundations - Anglian Water results

In April of this year, we began a new Southern Water contract, which
includes carrying out repair and maintenance on their clean water
network. The contract is across four counties in the South of England
– with operational depots in Chatham in Kent, Horsham in Sussex,
Otterbourne in Hampshire and Fairlee on the Isle of Wight.
We have now completed 17,857 jobs for Southern Water in just six
months, achieving an impressive average of 97 completed jobs per
day. More importantly, these statistics are supported by a strong
health and safety performance, which has resulted in us achieving
seven months, or over 375,000 hours, with zero RIDDORS and zero
Lost Time Injuries (LTIs). A great performance we are sure you will
agree! Well done to all team members who are involved in the
contract.
Commenting on this achievement, Graham Cleminson,
Communications Manager for Clancy Docwra said, “We have beenworking very hard with Southern Water to ensure that high standardsare not only met, but exceeded. Our operations teams throughout thewhole Southern Water region have been responsive to ideas, and havealso been proactively bringing suggestions forward forimprovements, so I think we are now beginning to see the effect inthe results.”

South & West Regionreaches one millionhours workedwithout a reportablesafety incident
We are delighted to announce this impressive achievement by
the South & West Region. With South East Water reaching nine
months (680,000 hours), Sutton & East Surrey eight months

We visited one of our teams in Crawley, West Sussex where the
team was dealing efficiently with a standard mains burst - but
what was most noticeable was the diligence with which they
dealt with the communication process to local residents, once it
became clear that a shut-off would be unavoidable. This type of
communication helps to make a real difference to how our work
is perceived, both for Clancy Docwra and for our clients.

Business in the Community
(BITC) update
We are currently in the final stages of the
BITC self-assessment that will form the
base of our score for 2016. This time, the
HSQE Department enlisted the help of the Bid Management
Department in Harefield, and we decided to tackle the
submission ‘scrum’ style. Each question was categorised into
those where we already score top marks, those where we
improved since the last assessment, and those that will need a
future improvement plan.
To gather evidence and draft the initial text, each question was
given to the relevant experts across The Clancy Group, involving
people from Customer Service, Marketing, Business Assurance,
Procurement and many others. Contributions were compiled and
revised by the Bid Management team, who prepared the final
document at the end of November.
This is an exciting time for us and Vision 2020, not only because
we acted in a true collaborative matter, forming a cohesive team
across many departments, but also because BITC 2016 will mark
the first step towards our Vision 2020 goal: 3-stars. Good luck to
everyone involved!
Vision 2020 – Working together toFollowing on from the Vision
2020 launch earlier this year,
we are delighted to be able
to announce several exciting
initiatives that we believe will
shape the business that we
want to become by 2020.
There are already numerous
things that we do well as an
organisation, so many of
these initiatives are about improving our current
status and being the best that we can be.
Being a good employer, and upholding the
standards and values that have been part of this
business for so many years is really important to
us – so when we ask for our colleagues’ feedback
(or employees’ feedback) and support, it’s about
working together to improve our business and
making life better for all our families.

A Great Place to Work
In May 2015 we launched our
Mission and Vision, and one of our
challenges around achieving them
both is getting feedback from our colleagues regarding our culture,
and how we can make life better for all of our families.
In January 2016 we will be conducting a confidential survey across
the business to gather employee feedback. This survey will be
managed through an external organization called ‘A Great Place to
Work’. This organisation focuses on the development needed within
a business, helping us to understand our culture and the levels of
trust and engagement within the company, and how to compare this
with our peers and competitors - which is the first step to creating
an engaged workplace. Our aim is that we attain the certification to
ensure that we are taking every step possible to support our new
Mission & Vision.
Investors in People
Since 1991 Investors in People has set the standard for better people
management. This internationally recognised accreditation is held
by 14,000 organisations across the world. The standard defines
what it takes to lead, support and manage people well, for
sustainable results.
We are already at Bronze level, but our objective for 2017 is to
achieve Gold status. Here are some areas where we wish to excel,
to make this important step.
 Clear leadership
 A constructive culture
 A values led organisation
Managers who are able to manage and develop their teams
A working environment which promotes continuous improvements
An organisation which is sustainable and able to flex and

Annual Performance ReviewOver the last few months we have been carrying out Annual Performance Reviews for our staff - something which we have
committed to in line with our People Policy and our 6S ‘Skilled’ strategic objective. It is important for us to commit to these
reviews in order for us to;
 Evaluate an employee’s performance
Develop and agree a work plan (objectives and learning needs)
Turn the company objectives into individual objectives so that every member of staff is clear about their role in achieving
the company’s mission, vision and 6S strategic objectives
Establish individual learning needs so we can carry out a learning needs analysis and plan, deliver and evaluate training
programmes
Help employees to plan and develop their careers within The Clancy Group
We have completed up to 92% of our Annual Performance Reviews for our office based staff and will continue this for our
operational based staff at the start of the new year.
HR is focused on deliveringresults to help us achieveVision 2020
Our 6S foundations underpin our
Vision 2020:
Safe – Continued rollout of safety
behaviour programme.
Successful – 47 Employees have been
promoted this year.
Sustainable – 20 new apprentices
started at Clancy Docwra in November.
Secure – Stronger relationships with key
clients. We now have regional HR
advisors, which means that each
employee will have an HR resource that
will be locally available to their contract.
Skilled – 6769 Training days delivered so
far in 2015.
Systems – Employee Handbook App being
issued in January.

Congratulations! Our 5th Ideas Card Winner is...
Amelia Fullalove (Millie) Customer Liason Officer - Dartford
For our 5th award this year, we aim to make life better for all
our families!
It is hard to start a new family, or add to an existing one,
especially in today’s busy professional environment. So
Millie, who recently had her baby, proposed an overhaul
to our maternity leave system which would provide better
benefits to all expectant mothers within The Clancy Group.
Our HR department took the initiative forward, and new
system is now in place and already helping to achieve our
company mission.
20 new Water Apprentic
The new intake is the result of an extensive recruitment and selection
process which started in late summer, aiming to find enthusiastic young
people who demonstrate the right attitude and work ethic to develop within
Clancy Docwra.
Our vacancies for positions across several water contracts in the Central
and East and South and West regions (Otterbourne, Hockers, Tonbridge,
Aldershot and Horsham) were promoted externally on the company
website. We also promoted vacancies via the National Apprenticeship
Service and Job Centre Plus, as well as internally to employees and
their families.
We had 70 applicants, of which 31 were shortlisted – and in September,
these individuals were interviewed by operational managers and the
Training Department in Harefield. The panel was very encouraged to meet
such motivated and positive young people, who demonstrated
commitment early on - with most of them travelling fair distances to get
to the interview. All of them had good opinions about the company from
their own research, some with family already in the business, and by
reputation in their own communities.
The next stage of the selection process was to see how the applicants
performed and worked together in a practical environment, through a
series of structured exercises which were hosted at Bridgwater College
on October 1st. This Assessment Day was a great success for the company,
and was the result of a big team effort involving both operational and head
office colleagues. Contract managers and supervisors worked with our
training and development team to help train our new apprentices.
Kevin Clancy, Joint Chairman, took time out to tell the lads that they had a big role to play in our future.

es join the Clancy familyThe level of motivation, enthusiasm and
capability demonstrated by the applicants was
very exciting, and this confirmed our decision
to move forward with the final successful 20 -
appointing them into contracts and officially
welcoming them into the Clancy family. One
of the best elements of the day was receiving
positive feedback from the accompanying
parents, all of whom were very impressed with
the facilities, the course and our company.
The 20 apprentices were divided into two
groups to start their training at college - the
first 11 on November 2nd and the remainder
on November 9th, in blocks of one week
initially - moving to another three blocks of
two weeks each in 2016.
Early indications are that the training is going
well, as the recruits settle into their new roles,
and come through head office induction. We
will be providing an update in the next issue of
6S, with more details of their development and
the journey on to site, alongside comments from
the apprentices, their managers and their
Bridgwater colleagues.

The Clancy Group takes part in the national
Aims & ObjectivesIn early October, we took part in the nationalCustomer Service Week campaign, which is runby the Institute of Customer Service andaddresses the importance of customers withina business. We focused on a different themeeach day and encouraged everyone in thecompany to participate – and at the same timegenerated funds for various chosen charities.
FindingsThe results of the week demonstrated that every singleperson from within the business has a key role to play incustomer service. Of the themes that we chose, drivingand parking received the most engagement – which isunsurprising, given that we have over 1,500 ClancyDocwra vehicles on the road! This was closely followedby ‘keeping customers informed’, which is also animportant part of what we do on a daily basis.
We also collected feedback from customers in areaswhere we had been carrying out work, and found thatin every case people were very grateful for us takingtime to ask how we were performing in their area.
What did our teams get up to?We saw numerous activities taking place over the course
of the week - including bake-offs, a driving simulator, and
‘Wear a Wig to Work’ day.

quite a lot of preparation went into ensuring the burst was repaired

@“A pat on the back is required for the driver of van number 2110! I was following this driver
through Groombridge at about 5pm on 15th September when I noticed him slowing downgoing up the hill towards Tunbridge Wells. He and myself saw an elderly lady on thepavement with a walking stick, looking a bit unsteady on her feet, and we were unsure ifshe was trying to cross the road or not. The driver of your van stopped in the road, got outand walked over to this lady, and asked if she was trying to cross - which she was. So he
very kindly stopped all the traffic on this busy road and helped her cross the road safely.
In this day and age it was very refreshing to see that people like your driver still believe in the commonvalues of kindness like this, and I just thought your company should say a big thank you him for hisfantastic kindness and his efforts to help this elderly lady who was struggling to cross a very busy road.”

Hello Kevin,
I am the daughter of Brian Lloyd, whowas given emergency first aid by someof your team last Saturday.
He is out of ICU and on a cardiac wardbut sitting up and chatting. It is early days yetto know what the effects will be but without a doubt, if yourguys had not been so close by and trained in first aid asthey were, things would not be so positive.
Dad asked me to write a short note to pass on his sincerethanks to all three – Peter Gettings, Brinley Filer and DarrenChurcher – and to Clancy for ensuring that their employeesreceive such valuable training. He knows Clancy from hisown career in Civil Engineering and rates your companyvery highly.
He will write himself when he is feeling stronger, but in themeantime, my Mum Diane, myself and my sister andbrother, Bridget and Nathan are very grateful to you all butespecially your wonderful gents who were so quick and socalm in helping Dad.
The doctor that spoke to me as I arrived in ICU told me thatthe quality of their response was superb and had given myDad the best chance of a good recovery. I do fear however, that the timing of the Rugby World Cup may affect hisrecovery as instructions ‘not to get stressed’ will all dependon how Wales perform!

Clancy Docwra ‘goes pink’ to raise moneyfor Breast Cancer Awareness Month!
When one of our 2020 Idea Cards suggested
raising money for breast cancer, we thought
it would be a great idea to paint one of our

shade of pink! Then all we had to do was find

for such a worthy cause.
Wear a Wig to Work Day!Our team at Morley Road in Tonbridge also held a ‘Wear a Wig to Work Day’ to support Breast Cancer
Awareness Month, after one of their colleagues had recently undergone treatment. The team wore bright
red wigs – or in some cases even pink - and also had a visit from our pink van on the day. They raised
£153, and the proceeds have been sent to the ‘Breast Cancer Now’ and ‘Sent With Love’ charities.

Next generation…In October, after a tough application process including online
pitches, Ronan Clancy was a finalist for the ‘Next Generation’
Entrepreneurship prize at the Family Business Network
international conference in Montreux, Switzerland.
Ronan gave a presentation on 'Super HS’, an innovative water-
repellant product that provides low-cost waterproofing to the built
environment, ensuring that physical assets can last longer.
Uniquely, Super HS makes use of what is currently a waste product
of the paper industry, which would otherwise be sent to landfill.
Ronan has been working on the business in his spare time since
teaming up with Professor Chris Cheeseman from Imperial College
London, while studying there in 2014.
The Family Business Network conference brings together family
businesses from around the world each year to help them to
grow, succeed and prosper – through the exchange of best
practices, new ideas and the peer-to-peer learning activities.
At the last minute the announcement of the winner was
postponed to June 2016, so unfortunately Ronan will have to
wait and see whether he won first prize!

Awards and Nominatio
We are delighted to have won the Star Contractor Award at
South East Water’s Staff Achievement and Recognition
Scheme (STARS) Awards. The award ceremony took place at
Nymans Gardens, Hayward Heath on the 17th September
2015, with awards being presented by Alistair McGowan.
The STARS Awards acknowledge outstanding achievements
and highlight companies that show commitment and passion.
Commenting on the judging process, South East Water’s
Managing Director Paul Butler said, “We received more than
500 nominations for the awards, and the judging panel had a
tough job trying to whittle them down.”
The Star Contractor Award was presented to Clancy Docwra
in recognition of the great work that we have carried out for
South East Water. The award was also judged on
performance, and considered contractors who had delivered
value for money.
Accepting the award, Clancy Docwra Associate Director
Jason Simmonds said, “The whole team have worked
exceptionally hard for this award, and we’ve played a major
part in supporting South East Water to achieve second
position in the OFWAT SIM scores - so to receive this
acknowledgment from them is just fantastic.”
Clancy Docwra took centre stage for a second time when Paul
Butler recalled the ‘lifesaving heroics’ of three Clancy
employees - Brinley Filer, Darren Churcher and Peter
Gettings. Whilst carrying out a meter install the team came
to the assistance of a gentleman lying on the floor in cardiac
arrest, and carried out CPR until the paramedics arrived.

We are delighted to
announce that we have
won two awards at this
year’s National Joint
Utilities Group awards!
The event was held on the
18th November 2015 at
the House of Commons
and was hosted by the
Chair of the Transport
Select Committee, Louise
Ellman MP.
The NJUG Awards have become a fixture in the utility street
works and parliamentary calendars showcasing examples of
industry innovation and best practice, with the aim of driving
up standards and reducing disruption.
The NJUG Award was awarded to Clancy Docwra and partners
Kier, Anglian Water and Roadmender Asphalt, in recognition
of new innovation and the recent introduction of the
‘Roadmender’. This roadmending patching machine delivers
significant operating efficiencies, performance benefits and
cost savings over traditional patching methods. Streetworks
Manager Dickie Aston-Wright accepted the award and
commented: “The technology is a true game changer and ticks
all the boxes for the National Joint Utilities Group vision.”
The second award presented to Clancy Docwra and
contracting partners Southern Water and Atkins, and was
awarded for Best Safety Practice for recent completion of
the Thanet sewer and storage scheme in Ramsgate, Kent. This
performance was achieved by putting Health and Safety first,
promoting the right culture and ensuring that, when faced with
a task, the first priority was safety.
The unique sewer system in this seaside town - where the
sewers were built a century ago by digging 10m deep tunnels
rather than using trenches - presented the project team with
particularly challenging working conditions, and led to them
being recognised in the Safety Category at the awards.
Commenting on this achievement, Senior Contract Manager
Denver Knight said, “Our success has been largely down to the
team that was put together to deliver this unique project. The
scheme demanded that we think ‘outside of the box’ in terms
of Health and Safety, customer focus and construction
methods, and the team have excelled at doing just that, with
a positive can-do attitude. This scheme is something to be
really proud of for everyone who worked on it.”
Clancy Docwra would like to thank all of our contracting
partners and team for all their hard work and dedication
in winning these awards.
Double Award!
Introducing ourWork Safe, HomeSafe Card
What is it?
We believe that an incident and injury free working
environment is achievable. Anyone working for, or
on behalf of the Clancy Group of Companies, has
the right to refuse to work if he/she is being asked
to carry out works that they believe involves an
unacceptable risk of injury to anyone, or is likely
to damage the environment or equipment. By
showing your Work Safe, Home Safe card you will
be supported if you call a halt to works; you can
then discuss your concerns with your Supervisor/
Line Manager.
How does it work?
The Work Safe, Home Safe card gives you the right
to refuse to carry out work that you think is unsafe
and to stop any unsafe activity and help to make it
safe. You are expected to encourage and support
safe and correct behaviour in order to challenge
and stop unsafe behaviour.
Why do we have these Cards?
Changing our attitudes and behaviours is central
to us achieving the working environment to which
we aspire, going forward to 2020. While we have
made an excellent start with our 2020 Vision roll
out and our ‘Think Safe’ programme, we need to
continue creating a business where working safely
and without harming the environment are at the
centre of everything we do.

Our Whistleblowing Policy is now active
VISION 2020
Integrity is a core value and part of our DNA at The Clancy Group of companies. In order to achieve our Mission,Vision and Values, The Clancy Group Plc wishes to eliminate from the business all behaviours that put people atunnecessary/avoidable risk, or that demonstrate wrong-doing - which puts our reputation at risk or prevents usfrom being ‘Trusted’, we have introduced a ‘Whistleblowing Policy’.
What is whistleblowing and why do we need a policy?Where an individual has a genuine and serious concern that relates to an act or behaviour that they have seenor are aware of, that is;
