Jack DeJohnetteBorn in Chicago in 1942, Jack DeJohnette is widely regarded as one of jazz music’s greatest drummers and “one of the most important musicians in the last 40 years of jazz” (The New York Times). DeJohnette has collaborated with most major figures in jazz history, including John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins, Thelonious Monk, Pat Metheny, Stan Getz, Keith Jarrett, George Benson, Herbie Hancock and Betty Carter. His wide-ranging style, capable of playing in any modern idiom while maintaining a well-defined voice, has kept him in demand as a drummer and as a bandleader, as well as a favorite of fans and critics alike. DeJohnette has long drawn from sources beyond jazz and in keeping with his multi-directional approach to music, launched his own imprint, Golden Beams Productions, in 2005. The label’s inaugural release, “Music in the Key of Om”, was nominated for a Grammy and 2008’s “Peace Time” won the Grammy for Best New Age Album in 2009.

Placement of Your Woodstock Chime

Hanging your Woodstock Chime for the Best Musical Performance Woodstock Chimes are known the world over for the purity and beauty of their sound (the secret is our unique and precise musical tuning) and we think you’ll agree they’re the best around. Our chimes are designed to produce beautiful music from even the slightest breeze, but if you’d like to hear yours more often, here are a few ideas:

• Some of our chimes have hanging rings, others hang from loops of string (see inset). Either way, hang your chime directly from the ring or loop at the top of the chime. Connect one end of an s-hook to the ring/loop and the other end to a tree or other structure. Adding chain or string to hang your chime lower can cause the entire chime to swing when in fact you only want the center string and clapper to move.

• Hang your chime where the wind can reach it from as many

directions as possible. An open corner is ideal when hanging the chime from a building.

• Experiment with hanging your chime at different heights. Wind

velocity tends to increase with higher elevation.

• Avoid hanging your chime within two feet of a wall or too close to plants, furniture and anything that might obstruct or divert the breeze. If you have a screened-in porch, you may find that even the screens will impede the breeze enough to prevent your chime from ringing.

• Try hanging your chime in different locations during different times of

the year. The prevailing winds change seasonally.

PRODUCT MAINTENANCE

Every part of a Woodstock Chime is weather protected. Over time, however, those layers of protection can begin to wear. To enjoy your Woodstock Chime for years to come, we suggest you hang it in an area that is not exposed to long term direct sunlight and periodically clean it with a damp cloth and mild detergent. In addition, here are some simple maintenance tips:

Aluminum Tubes

Woodstock Chimes tubes are made of aluminum that will not rust when exposed to the elements. However, over time, the aluminum may show pitting as a result of environmental factors. Please note this will not affect the beautiful tones of your chimes. If necessary, use mild soap and water (or a foaming, non-abrasive cleanser) to clean the tubes.

Wood Parts

Periodically, apply a thin layer of exterior use Danish or lemon oil with a clean cloth to the wood parts. Regular oiling will help protect the wood and retard the natural aging process.

Rainbow Makers and Crystal Accents

Spray window cleaner on a clean, soft cloth and gently wipe crystals till they are clean and shiny.

Bamboo Chimes

• Hang your chime in an area protected from direct sunlight or heavy winds. Excellent locationsinclude under a porch overhang or in a shady tree.

• Bring your chimes in during extreme weather or windstorms.• If you live in the north, bring your chimes in during the harsh winter months and store it in an

unheated area, such as a shed or garage.• Occasionally wipe off your chimes with a damp cloth to remove any build-up or mold.• Every spring, provide added weather protection by applying a coat of varnish on your chime

(you’ll want to wipe off the chime before doing this!)
