The Bonfi re and Fireworks Display will be held again in the large fi eld up Crag Lane off Croft Hill, Sutton. Our grateful thanks to the Smith Family for the use of their land to enable Sutton Village Committee to continue the tradition of a safe and organised bonfi re and fi reworks display for all to enjoy.
The event is solely organised by a team of committed members and volunteers who work long hard hours for free to ensure a spectacular successful event.
With the high cost of fi reworks, a professional fi ring team, insurance, site facilities such as toilets, lighting, safety barriers, ambulance and paramedic team on site, PA system etc we have had no choice but to charge for entry this year. This ensures the continuation of the event as donations in the past have not even covered a quarter of the costs.
The Entry is: Adults - £4.00Children - £2.00Entry from 5:15pm, bonfi re lit at approximately 5:45pm followed by fantastic fi reworks display.
The Village Committee will be selling an assortment of glow and fl ashing items – we would like to ask that you support the committee by buying these items off the Village Committees sellers.PLEASE NOTE: NO SPARKLERS ARE ALLOWED ON TO THE FIELD

Sutton Funday was another huge success, it was a superb day, the sun shone, and the proceeds are believed to be the highest ever. With the widening of the park gates, it allowed all the attractions to be in the park and to ensure the future of the Funday for years to come. Sutton Village Committee would like to say a big thank you to all who took part in the procession, led by the Bradford City
Pipe Band followed by the Retiring Sutton Funday
Queen Isabel Beaumont and Attendants, Elena
Preston, and Chloe Jackson
on a Ford
Thunderbird and newly crowned Alana Curtis with attendants Poppy Murgatroyd and Emily Bielby riding in style in a horse and carriage, the effort put in by all the entrants was outstanding. In the park we had a large array of attractions, ranging from charity stalls, children’s fun and games, local produce and crafts, also a wide variety of funfair attractions provided by Lee’s Worldwide Funfairs’. The ever popular ducking stool, live owls, and donkey rides.
The Committee Refreshment Marquees proved to be very popular, with people enjoying a cream tea, whilst watching a full and varied arena of live entertainment, including the May School of Dance, the Silver Star Stompers, the Bradford Pipe Band, Martin Henderson with his local Samba Band, and Jai Freestyle doing fantastic demonstrations and workshops. Our thanks go to all who performed in the arena, giving top class performances. The atmosphere on the day was fantastic, and Sutton Village Committee would like to thank All the Volunteer Helpers and everyone involved in making sure the day was so impressive. To Phil and Kate Corp for capturing it all on fi lm. To all the people who provided cakes and scones for the refreshment marquees, the many people who donated tombola prizes, and the judges. To Sutton Parish Council who were a tremendous support donating the park and pavilion to Sutton Village Committee to enable us to hold Sutton Funday. To all the people who attended and for donating so generously, and fi nally to all the people who staged this fantastic day doing whatever it took and more to ensure the success of the day, they all did a fantastic job and we thank each and everyone of them for all their hard work, giving up their time for free to support the village Funday.David Harrison – Young: ChairmanChristine Young – Events Co-ordinator

Cross Hills Football ClubAt the time of penning this report we are preparing for the start of the 2010/11 season. It is the beginning of a new era for the club, as we have applied and been accepted into the Craven League, where we fi rst started when the club was formed back in 1947.Training has already started and over the next few weeks friendly games have been arranged to prepare the lads for the start of the season, which commences on the 1st of September. The fi rst eleven will be playing in the 2nd division and the second eleven in the 4th division.May I wish everybody, both players and back room staff, an enjoyable and successful season in this new venture. Good luck. To our thousands of loyal supporters who fl ock to our ground every Saturday, please continue to visit us, we need your support. In response to my plea for a replacement tea bag, an anonymous donor posted one through my letter box, so whoever you are, my heart felt thanks to you.Not only that in Cross Hills a few weeks ago a young lady approached me on Main Street, with not one but a whole packet of tea bags, which will easily see us through the season. Sarah - thank you, my faith in the human race has been restored.I look forward to keeping you up to date with the clubs progress through future issues of the “Village News”.All the best - Barrie Pearce (Chairman)

In 1911 the expansion of T&M Bairstows took a new turn, when the hosiery spinning business of William Hartley was purchased by James Bairstow. The above photograph shows the second major development with the addition of a four storey extension to the new spinning mill of 1888. The fi rm continuedto expand in the 20th century.
