Autumn / Winter 2015Winter is coming. So make way for this new season’s can’t-live-without pieces. This fall, it’s all

about new colors, new volumes, new fabrics, and new rules. We’ve shopped the collections

from New York to Paris to bring you the best edit ever. Take a look at our buyers’ picks in this

go-to guide of the season, MUSE.

First, let’s have a quick recap of what we have been up to. As you may already know, we’re

accessible online via FarFetch.com. Our online selection has quickly grown the past months,

and today online shoppers are presented with over hundreds of AlOthman styles to choose

from.

Also, we have hosted an in-store event to celebrate the debut collection of Liudmila at

AlOthman Boutique. Clients enjoyed meeting the talented designer Najeeba Hayat, and

getting to know the inspiration behind her designs. It is worth mentioning that Najeeba Hayat

has recently won an award in the fashion designer category at the Arab Woman Awards.

And because we believe in nurturing local creative designers and budding talents, we

hosted two caftans events for local designers who designed exclusive and limited pieces for

AlOthman Boutique. The designers were: Anfal Designs, By Mariam Al Bader, By Sama,

Folklore, Ghain Ghada, Hamsa, Jallabiya, Qamar, Salma Musab, Shams Concept, Shugar

Collection, Thoub Sabbii, and Yasmin Sultan. Needless to say that almost all caftans were sold

out. More exciting events coming up this year so stay tuned!

Finally, in a few months we will be re-launching our smartphone/iPad application, named

MUSE, where you’ll be able to view our collection, create your wish list, engage its content

through social media channels, and other genius features.

That’s our update for now. Make sure to keep MUSE on your coffee table or bookshelf

Gold took to the spotlight as it cascaded across the Autumn/Winter 2015 runways. With a gold rush at Maison rabih Kayrouz, Eudon Choi, Oscar de la Renta, fashion audiences wanted to hit the dance floor.

It’s tricky to pull off top to toe but fun to play with in key pieces. Think pinstripe pants worn with chic heels and chunky knits, or maybe pair a boyish blazer with a feminine pleated dress. Finish the look with a charm bracelet for an urban edge.

Designers showed that gold in both big and small doses transcends season and the time of day. Go for a feminine twist with a pair of metallic gold pointy flats. Or layer up your gold dress/skirt with rigid hues like army green or khaki, or even white, the shades becomes even more brilliant.

If you could choose one person to dress, who would she be and why?

I don’t have an ideal woman. There are too many women whom I learn from and admire. Its their

differences, their quirks, their passions and their flaws that make them so compelling! But I guess I respond

to women who are really dynamic and lively.

Do you remember the first time you saw

someone - a stranger - wearing something

you designed? How did it feel?

Honestly it's... It's just the best! Seeing the

light go off in their eyes while they are wearing

something we made is just about the most

exciting and gratifying part of this entire

experience.

Your understated way with glamour, and the luxury of how your clothes are constructed, appeals to a whole generation of women. How do you define your

style philosophy?We work towards a balance of all of our favorite things. A balance between past,

present and future… scale, shape and proportion… color and light. Most importantly, we try and treat our women with respect and a sense of joy and celebration! If she is

going to take a risk, we want it to be fun!

You have interned at Oscar de la Renta, Adam Lippes,

Brian Reyes, and Lanvin in Paris, what was the

most precious thing you have learned from these

experiences?I would say that across the

board it was the importance of sticking to your gut. Instinct is invaluable and something I really rely on.

What is the most cherished item in your closet?

A red neck scarf I took from my Grandma Rose that she

wore for 30 years. I found out it was a gift my parents

brought her from their honeymoon in Hong Kong.

Sally La Pointe is a women's designer Ready-To-Wear collection designed and produced in New York City. LaPointe offers the industry modern minimal luxe with a subtle edge. LaPointe masterfully mixes luxurious fabrications to create juxtaposition in her collections that complement the modern and minimal silhouettes.

Born in Massachusetts, Sally La Pointe began her education in fine arts at an early age, attracted to painting and sculpture for their ability to communicate emotions through color and texture, LaPointe was fascinated with creating objects that both explored personal experiences and elicited a visceral response from others.

LaPointe graduated with BFA in Apparel Design from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2006. Teaming up with fellow RISD graduate Sarah Adelson, in 2010 they moved to New York City and founded the eponymous collection.

Sally La Pointe collections continue to receive accolades including being the FGI Rising Star Award in 2015 and Forbes 30 under 30 in Art + Design in 2013. Her work has been profiled in publications such as Elle, Harpers Bazaar, New York Times, i-D, and Interview. Her designs have been worn by celebrities such as Emily Blunt, Lily Aldridge, Katy Perry, and Kim Kardashian.

After studying architecture and applied arts in her native Belgrade, Roksanda Ilincic came to London, where she earned her masters degree in Womenswear at Central St. Martins. She has been showing her collections on the London Fashion Week schedule since 2005, recently adding swimwear and blossom, a childrenswear line, to the ready-to-wear offering.

Roksanda Blossom was inspired by both Ilincic’s daughter and the ever-increasing growth of her label. The childrenswear line is packed with miniature catwalk-worthy pieces, a must for Eid and birthday parties. Little girls will love the selection of dresses in the designer’s signature shapes and bold colours. Girly styles that won’t date and can be passed down with pleasure. Each piece in the Roksanda Blossom’s collection is expertly cut for plenty of movement and comfort.

For Fall Winter 2015, I was inspired by my Instagram girls. I follow a lot of my clients online as I am intrigued to see how they wear my shoes, where they go and what they want to wear. I realized that the Aquazzura girl travels all the time, everywhere from Coachella to the Oscars to the mountains, in addition to needing daytime flats as well as sassy evening shoes. So this season I decided to expand my collection by adding biker boots and rebel heels, snow boots, block heels, platforms as well as more integrate handcrafted feather and shearling and velvet pieces… all of which are of course created with comfort in mind so you can wear them day and night.

The dark and mysterious creatures along with the

plant life from the Congo Jungle served as inspiration

for my Fall 2015 collection. There are sleek burnout wool

textured dresses, bold animal printed jacquard coats and

liquid panther-like evening looks. It’s elegant, powerful, bold but still romantic for the Christian Siriano woman this season.


Clover Canyon

This season, Clover Canyon conjures The Fantastic—that reign of uncertainty as the mind apprehends the otherworldly. Clover Canyon’s clothes this season literally glow. And there are other elements of the uncanny here as well—blurred folkloric prints on velvet, womblike polar fleece, rubbery textures, webbed lace. This is a collection intended to be beyond time, beyond any given era—one that conjures the presence of the sublime.

the conceptual impetus for Autumn Winter 2015. A masterful study of character through environment, the notion of building a narrative around a muse captured Erdem’s imagination.

This season, the designer sprinkles her magic on a spritely, sophisticated collection imagined for the polished pixie. Fetherston offers beautiful gowns, elegant dresses and tailored separates in a decadent array of lustrous silk, shimmering jacquard, and ethereal organza.

Eudon Choi’s latest collection takes inspiration from a Japanese architectural movement called Metabolism. A bold movement which flourished from the 1950s to the mid-1970s. Extraordinary beauty supported with ease and function. The strong geometric forms of the Metabolist movement have been masterfully realised in a collection of brave outerwear and precise suiting, layered with structured dresses and architectural knits. Each element carefully considered to echo the equilibrium of the buildings.

A dark angel took hold of Giamba’s sweet flower child and tattooed sinister symbols like mock piercings and swords dripping with fresh blood onto her face. Evolving the ‘6os look Giambattista Valli unfurled in for Giamba’s new season.

Imagination is induced through opiate-hazed dreams, a plume of billowing smoke, a woman, seductively draped in rich luxurious silks, delicate Chantilly laces and silk fringes embodies Marchesa’s Fall 2015 collection. Influenced by decadence and rich jewel tones of aubergine, burgundy, and poppy red, grounded by nude, pale grey, slate, gold, black, and ivory.

Inspired by Opium Dreams, vibrant poppies appearing throughout the collection in 3D organza manipulated appliqués and floral embroideries may be found in visions translating to art.

I’m really pushing the proportions a bit more. It has men’s tailoring but it still has that softness for a power woman, so it’s like being a part of the boy’s club.

It was holistic Asian medicine that heightened my curiosity in the oriental cultures, especially those neighboring Russia such as Mongolia, Korea, Japan and China. I wanted to create a collection that seamlessly weaved Russian craftsmanship with traditional materials and folkloric symbols from the orient.I feel my Fall Winter 2015 collection embodies the traditional yet glamorous style of Anna May Wong, the first Chinese-American Hollywood actress.

This season Mira Mikati drew inspiration from New York, the world of artist Darcel, and his comic alter ego Darcel Disappoints. “His illustrations are based on daily misadventures in New York,” says Mikati. “So there are elements of street art as well as comic book motifs in the clothes. The idea was to design fall with the playful energy of spring.”

For the fall 2015 collection we looked to Los Angeles. Slim Aarons’ post-world war ii photography was a key starting point for the collection. Aarons’ photographs captured an easy, luxurious lifestyle of American aristocracy, or as he described it “attractive people who were doing attractive

things in attractive places.” We were interested in advice he had once received

about photographing his subjects, that “glamour was essential, illusion must

be maintained.” This glamorous, archetypal idea of American

luxury and the illusion that often surrounds it became the

predominant themes of the collection.

This season, Sally La Pointe was taken by Pina Bausch, a performer and choreographer of modern dance from Germany. She had the ability to both shock and inspire her audience with her work, it was an assault on all expectations. Her pieces being both strange and beautiful were never about alienating the audience, it was always about bringing them closer. Raw, honest, and a bit crude, Sally La Pointe wanted to emulate this idea and draw from these emotions for the FW15 collection.
