Australian people live near the coast.
Very few live inland.
This chart shows the population
distribution.
Every dot represents 1000 people.
The dots are clustered near the coast.

I will give you 30 seconds before I give
you the answer.

Brisbane.

Brisbane from the air
UQ
Brisbane river is
a tidal river.
This means the
water flow rate is
very low.
It is affected by
the tides.
The river is
heavily used for
urban transport.
Brisbane ferry on its way to UQ
Public transport is
convenient in Brisbane but it
is expensive.
People buy “GoCard”s to use
on the Brisbane buses,
trains, and the ferries.
The ticket fare depends on
the distance. The minimum
fare is $3.50 (9TL) for a full
ticket and $1.75 with
student discount (4.5 TL).
Brisbane Buses
Although they are expensive, Brisbane buses are quick because they use
dedicated busways most of the time. Therefore, the travel time is not
influenced by the traffic. Only the buses can use the busways.
Brisbane from Mt Cootha

Once you are on Mt Cootha,
there are many walking tracks
that will take you through
botanical gardens, little
brooks, and the bush as you
see in the above picture.

The bush is in the City
This is the Toohey forest. It
starts across the street where
we live. I sometimes walk
through this forest to catch the
bus to UQ at its next stop.
I used to walk through the
same forest to go to my
university. It took half an hour.
Wildlife in our backyard
Lorrikeets, Kookaburras, Bluetongue
lizards and snakes can be found in our
backyards.
Kangaroos Kangaroos can be seen hopping
around in many outer suburbs.
They are a traffic hazards on the
roads between cities.
Hitting a large kangaroo would
damage most cars and cause an
accident.
Bullbar
Koalas
Koalas are harder to find in the
suburbs.
They need a steady supply of gum
leaves and they live on the gum trees.
In Brisbane, the best places to see
them closely are the two zoos:
• Australia Zoo
• Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary
Brisbane Ferris Wheel
You would
get a good
view of the
City if you
hop on the
giant Ferris
Wheel.
This 60-m
tall wheel
was built in
2008.
Brisbane Cuisine – Meat and potatoes
This the kind of steak you can
eat in many Brisbane pubs and
restaurants.
The steak plate shown would
probably cost about $25 (65
TL)
Australian cattle is grass fed
and they are grown in large
cattle stations. Therefore, the
meat is as fatty as the
American corn-fed beef but
tastes better.
Barbecue Spots
All Brisbane parks have barbecue facilities
free for public use. People are expected to
leave them as clean as they were at the
beginning. They are usually electrically
heated.
