Company history

Visions begin with questions. Inthe 1950s industrialisation gainedmore and more importance andwith that there was evidence of a growing need of cables and conduits. Faced with this development, Oskar Lapp askedhimself a simple question:“How can you optimise the cur-rent time intensive method ofmanually inserting individualconductors and flexible wiresinto a cable conduit?” His answer: The invention of thefirst industrially producedcolour-coded flexible controlcable – ÖLFLEX®. This was forits users a revolution which pro-mised invaluable and set world-wide standards.

1957: Invention of ÖLFLEX1.

1959: Founding of U.l. LAPP KG,Stuttgart – today U.l. LAPPGmbH.

1963: Founding of LAPP cableworks GmbH, Stuttgart.

1966: Founding of ContactGmbH, Stuttgart, the key to themarket for industrial connectors.

1976: America calling: Foundingof Ölflex Wire & Cable Inc. inNew Jersey – today seat of LappHolding USA – with productionand subsidiary companies inUSA, Canada and Mexico.

1977: A new patent:SKINTOP® cable glands.

1980: Europe becomes the keymarket: Founding of currentLAPP Ltd in London followed bynumerous foundations and take-overs all over Europe.

1990: Founding of CableriesLAPP S.A.R.L. in Forbach,France.

1991: Getting a foothold inScandinavia: Takeover ofMiltronic Group with companiesin Sweden Finland and Norway.

1995: Asia is opening up:LAPP gets established throughthe Representative Office inSingapore – today the seat ofLAPP Holding Asia with loca-tions in Korea, India, Indonesiaand China.

Nature is a master of efficiency.From minimal resources itachieves maximum effective-ness. Things that have beenused are not simply thrownaway, but often re-used. Natureserves us as a role model fromwhich we can learn a lot, andwhich we respect.

Thus, we make sure to takeback the remnants of our cus-tomers’ cables, and to disposeof them in an environmentallyfriendly way. Thus, we placegreat importance on the devel-opment of halogen-free pro-ducts, which cannot start anytoxic reactions in case of fire. Thus, we also take care that allour products and packages are

free of asbestos and CFCs. Weavoid as far as possible stabil-izers containing lead. Thus, wehave learned to produce high-quality cables on the basis ofbiologically degradable oils, toput the left-overs of the produc-tion process back into our pro-duction cycle and to producehot water by means of heatpumps that are integrated intothe cooling process.

Thus ecology and economy gohand in hand in our company.
