Sima Phi Delta Sigma Phi Delta is back

in the old groove with an astounding victory over Alpha Eta Rho Sunday. The final score tallying 19 to 6. Pi chapter will keep up the practice to clash head on with the undefeat- ed Delta Chi.

Pi chapter's business meeting held on Sunday evening, October 17, re- vealed future plans for Greek Week. Ideas on various games and races were discussed and will be finalized at one of Pi's future meetings. The pro- gress of pledge, Buddy Matlock, was given by pledge captain Ron John- son. Tenative plans of the pledge project, a small utility shed to house the trash cans, are pending until an inquiry into cost and definite size are submitted to the pledge committee.

A professional meeting, sponsored by Sigma Phi Delta and the A.I.A.A., will be held in the near future. The topic of Gyro-Copters will be dis- cussed. This meeting is open to the public and all ERAU students are urged to attend. Watch for posters to be displayed on campus for the definite time and date.

That about wraps it up for another week at the house of Sigma Phi Delta. See you on the line Sunday and remember: It doesn't matter whether you win or lose, but how you play the gameithough it doesn't make the taste of defeat any sweeter.

Alpha Eta Rho

I Happy Days are here

again, for this week marks the conclusion of pledging for our eleven pledges. This past Monday the final vote was taken and all eleven pledges will con- tinue through thissunday and the induction cermony. Best of luck to you all.

After last week's power ful, football display. optimism was aroused f?r

continued success. Sigma Phi Delta put the skids to those hopes though as our defense broke down and I lift us 19-6 losers. The AHP offense just couldn't get the ball from a dater- pined group of engineers.

AHP is presently in- volved in an attempt to get ER represented at the NIFA Regional Qualifying Meet. A car wash was held last week and coming up is our girl auction, both to raise some needed cash. With some luck AHP could get to the finals at Pur- due University. Repre- sentation by ERAU at the meet would serve to ad- vance this schooi's name in the industry. Without some administrative hack- ing though, we may fail to get there.

Rho is planning another luncheon for October. A guest speaker will prob- ably be- required. And finally on our calender will be the girl auction, scheduled now for sometime in Februarv.

So till next timersweet dreams and remember Greek Week is coming.

Delta Chi In one of our rare

quiet weeks, the only not- able event was our Sunday football game. Starting off round two with Sigma Chi ended up with us on

1t was an excessivly rough game with several long penalities as results. However. at approrfmately half season, we're 4-0 and in undisputed first place. Good luck, Redskins!

In case you noticed the absence of our scheduled car wash last Saturday, it wae cancelled due to rea- sons more or less beyond OUT control. We've got a better organized one in the planning stages. I'll soon be telling you where and when in this column.

All our pledges are still with us. In fact,we had an additional two more last week. Welcome and congradulations to Greg (Tex) and Bob.

4 0 0 horse power under your hood doesn't make you a Cale Yarborough. Take your time and drive care- fully: !

Be back next week. BYE!

Sigma Chi Our fishing trip last

I Saturday was more of a success than last Springs. More people enjoyed a catch of fish near the forty pound mark. Those who weren't as skillful as others still had a magni- ficient time eating, and enjoying the Atlantic.

The football games are still energetic. It's even fun for the spectators who are welcomed to all the

Job WANTED: Teaching at college level (Engl. lit) Or light cleaning (no win- dows, floors). Available immediately. Contact Dr. Leonard Bri11,646 Douglass San Francisco 94114

SAN FRANCISCO-- With a sigh fo liberated relief, he dropped out. He hung up his suit with patches, his pipe with matches, and donned beads, beard, em- broidered denims and a bowling shirt he got at this auction. He moved in- to a ticy apartment, built bean tag chairs and shelves on which to hang his Huxlcys and Heming- ways. He became a vege- tarian, did Yoga on cush- ions when the sun rose, studied mcrobiotics on cushions when it set. And like instant Karma, the star became a chorus boy and that was that -- the

. beginning of a beautiful self-indulgent life.

That was over a year ago, when the well -read, well-tread Brooklyn-boy- turned - English - teacher (American and English Lit- erature Huzanities, etc.) droppee out to drop in to himself.

Now, he says, moaning one of those academic moans, "I want to drop back in again. I'd like to find a job teaching somr- where. I miss students. But it's hard to drop in.. the economic situation is so...and nobody's hiring and.. .:

And his voice trails Off to the West Coast where he lives and he meekly looks down at his ragged t-shirt wishing, nmaybe?, it were a little tweedier. You know:with those terribly academic patches so he shouldn't wear his elbows out while leaning on the po2ium.

With memories of three years at the University of Minnesota, two years at Macalester College in St. Paul, "that awful year writing a dessertation back in ' 6 7 , ' and those two last years at Etanis- laus College in Turlock, Calif., Leonard Brill, aging in at 3 5 , is the drop-out professor.

It's happening all over the country. And Brill (please call hint Dr.Bri11) is only one of zanj vlc- tiss of a baC acadernic job market. Money is tight; cor~tracts aren't being re- newed. Profs take cff to discover the Better Life. And even at your own cam- pus, look around you: you just might nctice that Professor--oh-what-was-his nane?--isn't tinereany- more. And he hasn't left to accept a Eetter Posit- ion at some elegant East- ern school. He just might be living in the hovel down the block.

Leonard Erill is living in the hovel down the block. "I was disillusion- ed," he said in a recent interview. "I was disillu- sioned with the fact that decisions on education aren't made by the stud- ents and faculty. l'he people who are closest to education. don;t have any say about it.

~. Page. 3

"Arid, " he said, "I wanted a year--> very pri- vate year--For myself. I though it might be a good time tb get away from teaching and get perspect- ive on myself and spend some time alone with my- self. At first, I felt quite elated and liberated end free. .."

And now? "Now 1'm ready to go back to teach- ing because I feel that teaching is the aost use- ful thing I can do. I miss students. I think that students at college age are the most interesting. Thnir sense of their own potential is greatest at that point. It's that un- Filled sepse of usefulness thht's the strongest goal I feel in wanting to re- turn to teact.ing."

But can a nice Jewish boy, well-studied in the finer things, leave the academic community, join the other World, and find real happiness?

"I get up at SAM every- day," Brill said. "Then I go over to the Zen Center and sit in the lotus posi- tion for 45 minutes. I work from 7 AM 'ti1 2 PM as a proof reader. It's no more hack work than reading student themes,ex- cept -- "he said rather sadly," -- except there aren't any students."

But after going from tweeds to beads, Leonard Brill hasn't been fulfill- ed. He wants to go back to school. And he -- the drop-out professor -- is like the drop-out student. Both tine of the educa- tional system and affect a deliberate liberation that often becomes disha- Mlitation. For Brill, that forced freedom became

"YOU wouldn't be able to collect because the other driver, most likely, would be, covered by no fault insurance, and exempt from being sued."

Davies said the compul- sory aspect of Florida's no fault insurance law, which takes effect Jan. 1, has gotten the least at- tenrion, but may have the most serious consequences.

Drivers who already have insurance will auto- matically have their pol- icies transferred to the new no fault coverage-at a basic reduction of rates. But the estimated 15 to 20 per cent of Florida driv- ers not covered by insur- ance are on their nwn, said Davies.

He said these drivers should either go to a loc- al insurance agent or "if they are confused, should call us or see one of our field offices for informa-

tween 600,000 and 700,000 uninsured Florida motor- ists that now must buy policies.

"This is the first time the state has ever had compulsory insurance,"said Davies . ~~ ~~ ~ ~

He said O'Malley had been travelling around the state making radio appear- ances to explain the new law and stress its com- pulsory nature.

The law will be enforc- ed, said Davies, by state, county and local police.

"Everytime someone is stopped for a traffic vio- lation, he will be asked to show proof of insur- ance. "

Under the new law, everY one will be required to carry personal injury pro- tection and hasic liabili- ty limits.

The Main Frame contains work of artistic and lit- erary nature done by any student here at Emu. You don't have to be a litera- ture major or an art major to submit work, all y3u have to be is a student. This offers you a chance to show your talents. Let us prove to all that the students of CRAU are people with more than just one talent. This magazine will not only be sold here on campus, but will also be sent to other campuses in exchange for their campus magazine, so get busy and submit your work so that we may prove that our student body is capable as any student body in the ability to write and create works of art and literature.
